That has happened to me a lot with the aspen and cypress substrate when I would buy from pet stores, then I switched to eco-earth. I don't have any ball pythons right now, but, just saying. Maybe you could try www.bigappleherp.com or www.reptiledirect.com if you don't want to switch substrate. Either one of those are you best bet, they have very nice products.

Maybe you can boil the mulch you have and wring it out and let dry. That will kill any kind of insect and egg. It will take a little work though.

I have only been using this for about 6-8 months.... I got the idea from another person on this site who is responsible for my addiction. She has been using shredded paper for several years. The idea makes good sense the bedding marketed as snow...is just paper... Any who it works good, snakes seem to like it, its incredibly cheap, absorbs pee or the ocasional dumped water bowl. As far as clean up, I spot clean as needed and change bedding when bedding is soaked or has that smell..... You accumulate way more shredded paper than you think, I keep a 50 gallon trash can I purchased just for this and it is constantly full....

Just bake the remaining bedding in oven at 250 for 30 mins. Will take care of your problem.

My substrate doesn't come with ants, but I get them in the snake cages ALL the time. It's so frustrating. What can I use to keep them from getting in?! Right now I just clean maliciously every time I see one, and it seems to hold them off for a week or so.

Get rid of the food brining them in

But anyways on a serious note. If the substrate isnt brining the ants in does ur house have ants itself? o.O Our house never has any ants in but iv seen peoples houses who sometimes do. If not then u may want to find the source

Yes, the entire house is infested with ants. It's a constant battle. They are all just "sugar ants" but they are still annoying.

Well maybe u could put some stuff around the bottom of the cage or rack whatever your sitting on. like say for example u got a table. And on that table is ur tub.

Well for the ants to get up it they would have to climb up. If i recall theres like a powder you can lay on the floor or some sort of spray. Maybe u could spray it around the base of ur rack if it isnt close enough to harm any of the snakes.

    Edit:

    Googles sugar ants got this

Maybe could try the borax thing around ur table/rack/stand w/e it may be?
