I should never have promised....
:P
So I promised my husband that I would pay off my credit card (that I maxed out on snakes. 3k!) before I bought another snake. But there are soooo many snakes I want right now and its driving me nuts not being able to get the a cinnamon female or the het pied female I want. :taz: I was thinking of trying to convince him to let me use just a tiny bit of our tax return for a cinnamon female but I don't want to make him mad.
I'm going to be a good girl and keep to my promise, but its still driving me nuts. :rage: So how often do you all purchase reptiles? Once a year? Twice a year?
Re: I should never have promised....
Whenever I have the CASH to buy one, not a Credit Card:D
Seriously though, credit cards are evil.
Re: I should never have promised....
lol im in the same boat. but i would only be breaking a rule i set for myself. i cant buy anymore till i pay off mine. but that will be done next week :). but i also need to get a new rack first so that is gonna be the first investment before i get anymore. :)
Re: I should never have promised....
If I ever have spare cash that can be spent on a snake, I would consider it. I'm very frugal though, so I'm more tempted to save it to pay bills. After I get my het pied female though, I'll be done for a long time.
Re: I should never have promised....
Yea my credit card was maxed out from buying snakes. Credit cards are evil! Evil I say! And the thing is, I swear the bank was watching my purchases and knew I was buying tons of snakes and snake things. The reason I think this is because the night before a show, they increased my limit to 3000, giving me an extra 1000 limit on the card. And of course the next day I brought home my spider male and pinstripe female. I have learned my lesson with credit cards. Never again! Hopefully this breeding season will help me begin to pay off that card and I can be closer to being able to buy my cinny girl!

Re: I should never have promised....
Don't I know it. I don't have any other credit cards. That was my only one. (Thank goodness!) Otherwise I'd be up to my eyeballs in debt.....of course I'd also be up to my eyeballs in snake morphs.
I just can't wait to pay off that card. I'm going to a show next month with my sister. She might end up buying something, but I'm not sure. She wants to buy or build a snake rack first.
Re: I should never have promised....
Since April last year...I have bought 37:O
Re: I should never have promised....
:O Wow! I have a list a mile long but my immediate wants are the following
Cinnamon Female
100% het pied Female
Albino Male
Mojave Pair
Het Axanthic Pair
Het Clown Pair
Yellowbelly Pair
Maybe next year's tax return I can use some to make my list shorter. :P
Re: I should never have promised....
Im 14 and have my own card :D
Lucky for me though i cant take more than £500 at a time lol
I hope to get a new snake every month but some months i may get 3 or 4.
Missed out on this month though as setting up my rodent shed an got some nice snake racks too.
Re: I should never have promised....
Yeah I have a mile a list long as well.
I'm going to limit myself to a pyxie frog if I can ever find one for sale, and then in the meantime i'm saving up for a leachianus.
I might splurge on any red female crested geckos that are a good deal, as they're not too common for me to come across and I'm really powering up for my decent red crestie project.
Re: I should never have promised....
Jay Bunny,
Thats funny. Im in the same boat. I bought a few too many snakes recently but its all worth it in the end. As long as you aint taking food off the table, the heat is on, and the electric is on I say do what you want!
But yeah credit cards are evil LOL
Re: I should never have promised....
I only spend what I have up in my special snake account. Everything else goes into my savings for a house.
Just spent $700 on a Pewter and $400 on a Rack and now I am down to only about $200 left in the bank (for snakes).... And there's a Bredli for sale for $500 shipped that I am dying to get. But she has to wait.
Will power! :gj:
Re: I should never have promised....
My wife has run up some credit cards. I'm severely pissed about it.
I've never spent more on a credit card than I could easily pay at the end of the month.
Spending money that you don't have is not a good idea. With the exception of home loans, and of course every one needs tansportation(a car, truck, etc.).
I say use some of the tax return towards paying off your credit card debt. Ball pythons live a long time and I beleive this hobby has the potential to be very interesting for a long, long time.
Just my thoughts on the subject: Pay off the credit card debt and tell your husband you'll never do it again. Then pinch pennys, nickels and dimes; and buy a pied instead of a het-pied.

Re: I should never have promised....
Please be very careful when building debt on a credit card. I know my share of people that are really scewed because of credit cards. I know someone that told me that they didn't care how much they spent on the credit card as long as they could afford the monthly payments. I then showed them that it would take them somthing like 24 years to pay off the credit card if they continued to pay the minimum each month.
I have one credit card, and it's tied to my checking account, so if I use the card, it comes right out of checking. No way I can overspend that way.
Good Luck!
