What is your scariest snake moment?

I am going to guess that there are some great snake stories out there. I am interested to hear your scariest moment with a snake.

For me, I was rafting down the nile in Uganda a couple summers ago, when someone in the raft asked the guide what was swimming in the water towards the raft. He immediately yells at everyone to start paddling out of its way. Turns out that it was a black mamba. That was a little too close for me.

My green tree python got stuck in my ink jet printer.. that was fun/scary. I know not the same type of story your talking about but hey.. why not..

When I was a kid our family spent a lot of time at a little pond that was owned / run by the teachers in the district. I was fishing one day and pulled out a water moccasin, before I even knew what happened my dad pulled out a gun and shot it. It wasn't the snake that scared me it was the noise from the gun. But it definitely made an impression on me.

Some time ago, I was out in the wilds of Africa, when I reached into the a pile of leaves to wipe my butt (even explorers need to use the bathroom). Seems like I wiped with poision ivy. A little later in the day we came upon a 29 foot Rock Python. I was scratching my butt with one hand and trying the wrangle the snake into a bag with the other hand when I slipped and the snake bit my hand and took it completely off with one bite. I finally got the snake into the bag and set off for home. I traveled from Africa to Ireland where I boarded a luxury liner set for New York. Seems like it was this ship's maiden voyage, but that was okay, because they said this was a great ship. We did well until we got around some iceburgs in the north Atlantic. We seemed to hit one and the ship started to sink. I quickly ran and got the Rock Python from storage and got into a life boat with my snake. Long story short, we got to New York and everyone was glad to see me and my snake.

That was until someone read to me a new bill that was being introduced in Congress. Something about not being able to import this kind of snake into the United States any longer. Well, I had to give up the snake at the customs office.

So it goes to show you that if you don't fight for your ability to continue with your hobby, the same thing could happen to you.

i have 1 1/4" plugs in my ears and one day when i was playing with my Ij sibs my female crawled through one and got stuck... how fun do you think it is to pull a pissed of snake literally THROUGH your ear lobe and have to worry about getting tagged multiple times in the side of the head/face/ear...

I stepped on a rattle snake once here in GA.

That made me have to change my pants.

The scariest part though was when my little lesser escaped, tore up the room looking for him, and could not find him. I open the door after an hour of searching and there he is :rolleyes:

I second this one! Lifting up 1 hide, no snake, lifting up the other.. well, still no snake.. it's makes everything in your body just go numb..

Happened to me about 3 weeks ago with my male mojave..

Same for me too, my adult female escaped and I tore apart my room, and then the house searching for her. She is my first snake and to say I was distraught is an understatement. My little sister found her on the top shelf in my closet five minutes after I had destroyed my room, lol, but I was so happy to have her back I cried. Now everyone has locked and secure doors.

Our family owns a lake house and a boat and one day me and my brothers were fishing off our dock in the dark and all of the sudden this big water snake slitherd up on the dock but we didnt know what it was. then the dock light died and we were stuc there for half an Hour in the dark over water wondering if a water mocasin was going to get us. after a while the light came back up and later we found it was a harmless diamond back water snake.

the day i aquired my redtail boa and first went to handle her she went striaght for my face

First time I fed my big girl Alice... she struck so fast I jumped and the entire tub was rocked by how much force she put into it. I have a lot of respect for that snake lol


2nd scariest moment was opening up Ivy's tub and realizing she wasn't in it before I even looked in her hide because the lid wasn't clipped on!

The day I decided to switch to F/T rats from live. My Mojave tagged the rat and the rat had enough wiggle room to reach around and bite my poor snake, did a small amount of damage to my poor baby, he let go of the rat and played opposum for about 10 minutes then go the rat correctly and ate it. One of the longest most stressful moments ever(let alone the poor snake!) glad to say my snake was fine and the rat got eated.

A couple weeks after getting my trio of KSBs, I got a phone call from my dad at work saying he found one on the ground near their tub and there was still one missing... Minutes later (I'm not kidding), the guy I got them from comes into our store and asks, "Hey! How are those Sand Boas doing?" And I got to tell him that I almost lost two of right as we spoke. My dad found it a few minutes later... but man that sucked hard. (It was my first escape)

when i got my first two babies(het.pieds) i had the scariest moment with my snakes. i was at epcot with my cousin drinking around the world :) all day. when we got back to my house the firsts thing i did was go to my room to show my cousin the snakes. i open my door and i see a huge empty liquor bottle half way through the screen of the tank. i almost had a heart attack. i knew it was my cat that likes to jump to the ledge at the top of my room that knocked it over so this enfuriated me. i checked the cage and found my little girl was missing. running around my room tearing everything apart in a drunken stupid rage(we were driven home), i find her resting on a book right behind her cage after 30 minutes! seemed like a life time but i could have had a heart attack. and if i didnt find her i might have gone awol on my cat.

Edit: i think the liquor bottle was a little ironic!

I had a rather large black rat snake fall on my head. It was spending its day in my barn on top of a large stack of hay bales and when i pulled the top one off, the bale went to the side and the snake smacked me in the face. He slithered away obviously quite shaken by the ordeal and it took me a moment or two to catch my breath :bolt:

ONE NIGHT I WAS LAYING IN BED WITH ALL THE LIGHTS & TV OFF, SO THE HOUSE IS VERY QUIET... OUT OF NOWHERE I HEAR THE LOUDEST MOST WEIRD SOUND EVER, I INSTANTLY PANICKED THINKING IT WAS A GHOST (I REALLY SEEN A GHOST BEFORE) I RAN INTO THE LIVING ROOM & IT TURNED OUT MY BALL PYTHON TOOK THE BIGGEST CRAP EVER!!! LOL NO GHOST THIS TIME :tears:

I was fishing off a floating pier about a foot above the surface of the water when I was about 15 or 16. After a few casts (and no bites), I decided to just chill out and enjoy the day. As I was scanning my surrounding's, I found that to my right, within arms reach was the absolute biggest Water Moccasin I have yet to see it the wild. And it was just starring at me! :O

I about jumped out of my skin as I knew what it was immediately by the head shape, markings and body size! It had to have been over four feet long as the water was almost two feet deep and a good portion of it was on the bottom. To date, I have not since encountered one of this size or even close to it in the wild (thank goodness), but I did see one at a science center in SC about a year ago that probably would have matched it. It was beautiful, behind glass that is :cool:

Just writing this gives me flashbacks that make me shiver. At that moment, I was almost paralyzed with fear. We had two or three species of water snakes in the area that looked similar, but I saw enough of them and read enough books and watched to much national geographic to be mistaken as to what it was.

The image of that snake will be etched into my mind forever....or until I get Alzheimer's :tears:

The worst part is I don't even know how long it was there before I noticed it! :omg:

I've always heard Water Moccasin's will chase you, but I never believed it till the summer before last.

I was down by the lake across from my friends house helping to clear a tree we felled a few months earlier. We were happy to leave it, but one of the neighbors had complained to the city and blah blah blah...

Anyway, we're getting to the bottom of the pile and my friends goes to the house to get a drink and I carry on. I get to the bottom of the pile and see a small collection of eggs. I went to pick up another branch/log that was lying nearby when this water moccasin came up out of the water.

I started backing up, but it just kept coming at me. From the lake I went up the side to the road (a grass hill, maybe 25 yards) across the road and then up my friends yard, onto his porch and behind the screen door... It wasn't until I had got the door between me and it that the water moccasin quit chasin me. All in all, it chased me like 60 or 70 yards from its nest (least i assume it was its nest).

Once I explained what happened to my friend, we called the city and told them we'd finished and if they didn't like it they could clean up themselves cause we weren't gonna go back down there lol.
