Picking up a BIG female tomorrow
I found someone that is looking to rehome a big female bp. The lady says she is about 6 foot long and 15 years old. I couldn't imagine rehomeing a pet after 15 years, but I have no idea what her situation is.

At 15 years old...could she still be breedable or do they lose interest in reproduction once they get older. Either way...we will give her great home for the remainder of her life.

Well I hope is not a Boa or a Rectic and she is calling it a BP. As long as she is healty I dont see why she wouldnt be breedable, but I dont know realy, just my opinion.

I saw pics! She's a BIG beautiful female BP! I can't verify the exact size through the photo, but she is big and looked to be at a nice weight!

As far as being breedable, I have read in a book that there is a documented case of a female 30+ years old producing babies.

It is my sincere hope that unforseen circumstances force the rehoming of a well cared for and treasured pet, and not a neglected, ill, or problem animal.

If you get her, please post pictures.

I read in a book that a 40+ year old female laid 9 viable eggs. That's amazing. Our number one priority is to give her a great home though.

Edit: I'm leaving right now to go get her. It's an hour drive each way, but I'll try to get some pics up later this evening!

Well, we are home and she is awesome! A rough measurement puts her around 5'-6"...plus or minus an inch or so. I'll measure her and take some pics after she settles (hopefully later tonight).

Well, after letting her settle in for several hours...I offered her a medium rat and she took it within seconds! The previous owners said she was very finicky, but I would be willing to blame most of that on husbandry issues. She may be a little on the thin side, but that won't last for long!

Here are some pics of her first feeding with us! They in no way show her true size though! She is massive!

I'll try getting some more pics once she has had more time to settle.

I can't believe you tried to feed her already! That totally goes against all of the advice that everyone here gives :) She must have been really hungry!!

Good luck with your new addition!!

    Thanks!

I know it's against the typical advice given, but she was showing signs of hunger, so I gave it a shot. After she ate, she still spent about an hour or two roaming her tub looking for another meal.

Her old owners had her in an aquarium with a screen lid, overhead heat lamp, and no hide. I think the sense of security brought out her feeding response. They told me she would only eat medium, black and white rats...the rat I fed her was all white. I thought that was kind of funny.

Holy moly you aren't kidding about her being thin! I'm glad she ate for you. My guess is that she's a fine feeder on live but he just didn't want to feed her. She hasn't had enough time to settle in at your place to say it was his husbandry. There's really no harm in offering food right away, especially in her condition.

I asked him how often they fed her and he said..."whenever she starts to act hungry". Then he went on to say that she will only eat black and white rats, and that she will kill and not eat all other prey items. The people were very nice and I don't feel they were doing anything wrong intentionally.

    Pics!
Here are a few pics from her soak in the tub last night. She had some stuck shed that I wanted to get off. She also seems to have retained eyecaps, but I'm not going to bother her by removing them yet. I'll see if they com off on the next shed after the humidity is elevated.

I just thought I would give an update on this snake. I rescued him (turned out to be a big male) about a month ago. He was very skinny, had stuck shed all over him, and retained eye caps. Since then, he has been pounding food and had a perfect shed with us! It removed the stuck eye caps and really made the snake look sharp! I weighed him when we first got him and he weighed 2,200 grams. Last night after a month of caring for him...he is up to 2,800 grams! He still looks a little thin to me, but he is on the right track! I'll update with new pics soon!
