Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
Well, things have not gotten any better. We STILL don't have jobs, and now we don't even have savings left. No money at all, and what little we'll be getting from his tax return is going straight toward paying for our storage room for another few months so we can keep job searching.
On a slight bright side, I am waiting to hear back from two job interviews I had...
Anyway, I am really getting scared now. The only things we have now are shelter (living with my dad) and food for us with food stamps. Those are great and we thank everything and everyone for them constantly...but I still have no way to pay for rats for the snakes and am nearly out again. :(
We also have the problem that we can't get out for interviews and job searches very easily without bus fare. My dad lends us a bit now and then, and drives us when he can, but things are tight for him as well right now. SIGH.
Ok, that's enough of that from me for now. I'm really trying to keep a positive outlook, though it's hard, and all help...even kind words...works wonders and is completely appreciated.

Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
Good luck!
I hope things will work out for you. Maybe some of us can get together rats to donate or something.
Keep trying, there's got to be at least ONE place hiring.

Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
I think the reason it takes people so long to respond to something like this, if at all, is because its so hard to read this. None of us want to think about one of the people we talk to on here going through that kind of hard time. During the time I was a lurker and had not registered yet, I saw a few people buy amazing new animals and then just months later had to sell them.
Its horrible to think how you must feel. It took me a few years to get back on my feet after a bad car accident which left me homeless because I couldnt work for quite some time. I can only imagine what your feeling but if its anything like what I was feeling, I know its not good..
All I can say is to keep your head up. Keep trying. Try not to get too down. I know its very hard to block those thoughts at times but its very unhealthy and will get you no where in the end.
I truly do wish you luck and hope that you will be ok. I still spend most nights wondering the very same things. Just hang in there. These will make you smile :P :D ;)

I traded most of my collection so I have quite a few frozen rats and large mice I'd be happy to send over. I just don't know how to get them over there w/o them thawing. If anyone has ideas, go ahead and PM me or email me at mivonne@nova.edu.

Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
You are in my prayers :)
Even if you aren't religious, I will still pray for you. Just need to have a little faith :) It will work out.

Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
Thank you for the great encouragement. :D It helps me to think positive when I know I have friends rooting for me.
Muze - Thank you VERY much! I sent you a PM. :)
Foschi - Thanks...those pics are great! I adore dragons.
For now, I'm just turning in as many applications as I can to any place I can reach and hoping for good results from that interview on Monday.
Thanks again for the support! Every little thing helps right now.

Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
Get rid of the snakes? They're a 'luxury'. It sounds like you can't afford to have that right now.
-
Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
You are in my thoughts and my prayers. I wish I could do more for you.
-
Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
You are in my thoughts and prayers as well. If you lived any closer I'd get some rats to you. Have you thought about letting someone care for your snakes for you while you search for a job? Someone you trust of course, but someone who would be willing to take on your snakes and feed and care for them until you can afford them again?
Keep searching for a job. There is one out there, I just know it. :D

I suggested this in the last thread she posted about her situation.
Get rid of anything that is costing you money that you don't NEED. That means any luxuries at all!

Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
I am very sorry to hear your having a rough time. Keep banging on doors trying to find a job there is bound to be something for you, put in applications EVERYWHERE, gas station, fast food, any unskilled labor place I know that it is hard to take jobs that don't pay the best but it might give you some pocket money until things look up.
I can CO2 and freeze AFS and ship them to you let me know, I would be happy to help a fellow friend.

Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
In the same boat as you almost. I've been back in the states now since 1 Dec, just separated from the Military, I'm going to school to utilize the GI bill and get that housing allowance but the VA is real backed up right now. Still waiting on unemployment and trying to make it out to all the job fairs, my wife had to cut back to only 2 classes this semester so FAFSA will pay 100%. This snow has really messed my schedule up. I no longer have any snakes at the moment, don't know when I'll be able to start buying again but I'm remaining hopeful. Wish the best for you and yours, this economy is real difficult right now.

Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
To those who are saying I should get rid of the snakes: I know why you say it and I know where you are coming from...but I will say the same thing I said before. I am currently placing ads for two of the corn snakes, and I will sell up to two others if I absolutely must, but I cannot and will not get rid of them all. They are my therapy animals, my family members, and (to my partner) too valuable to simply give away.
As long as I have wonderful, helpful friends here on BP.net and in the area who can send me a few frozen rats here and there, I'm doing alright with the snakes. They're being fed every two weeks (which seems to be good for them, tho the two BP girls are NOT happy. :)) to save money, rats, and time, and luckily I have a good stockpile of supplies (UTHs, spare t-stats, hides and such).
I haven't lived here long, so I don't know many local people, but if it comes down to it I would search for someone I could trust to 'snakesit' for me until we finally find jobs. In the meantime, caring for the snakes and skink is keeping me from...well, let's just say it's saving what's left of my sanity. :)
Thanks again for the support. It means more than I can say...
-
Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
I totally understand about them being family members and therapy. My animals have pulled me through some really rough patches. Perhaps you could get someone to "snake-sit" all but one or two. That way you can still have some there but it wouldn't be so much.
Like many have said, just keeping going to every place you can that is not someone's house and find that job. Its hard but I'd be calling to follow up on submitted applications every chance I got and putting applications into EVERYWHERE. Someone has got to be hiring. :please::please::please:
-
Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
had you been closer i would have taken them in for you and feed them for you till you got back on your feed. Hope the best for you if you need anything just pm me and ill do my best help you out. I grew up in bad situations like that so i know the feeling. It will get better with time. Just dont give up. My aim screen name is in cooltif's thread if you ever need to talk. Hope the best for you hun.

Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
Here's my question though, are you holding on to them for selfish ambitions? Are you truly holding your snakes health as a number one priority? It sounds like their food is now a charity event, I don't think you should keep a helpless animal in such a state. All I've heard you say so far is that -you- won't give them up because they're there to help -you-. When in reality, you're their owner and you should be doing everything in -their- best interest. In such hard times you seem to be refusing to cut spendings in the 'luxury' department. It's not about you right now, the snakes need food. And you can't give it to them.
Sorry to be such a negative nancy. :(

Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
Just remember that everything must go down before it comes up! Times are tough for everyone (well everyone with a soul ;) ) and if you take things day by day things will slowly but surely begin to look for the bright side. If you are in a home, free of hunger, with someone you love as well as pets you love... I'd say appreciate that! It's a lot more than some people have. You will be in my thoughts and wishes for the world. :)

Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
:) Oh I am very thankful for those things I have and show how much as often as possible. I know how 'up the creek' we'd be if not for my dad and his partner.
As for the snakes, yes perhaps my reasons ARE slightly selfish in needing them as I do...but after the life I've led I'm allowed a few selfish things from time to time.
My snakes live quite well, BTW. Just ask my partner, as he thinks they live better then we do (when things aren't this bad). They're in hand-built large cages with good heat, top t-stats, good bedding, and plenty of care and attention. At this time, it's just a little hard to get their food as Food Stamps don't pay for frozen rats. If it came down to it, my dad's partner (the only one here with a job) would help me buy the rats...but I would rather it not come to that since she's already doing SO much for us. Also, if need be, I would try to find someone who could take in the snakes for a while just to keep them healthy and happy.
I'll just say this- telling me to get rid of my snakes because they are a luxury is like telling a couple with 6 children and no full time income to get rid of a few of their kids to save money. You may not see it that way, but I do. :)

Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
For everyone telling her to get rid of her snakes, please understand. There are some people (myself included) that consider our animals, our children. They are not a luxury like cable t.v or a sports car. They are family members. And to many, they are what keep us going in times of great sorrow or trouble. I know from personal experience. As long as the snakes are getting fed on a regular basis(every 2 weeks is fine), there is no reason for her to "get rid of" her babies.
You keep doing what you are doing. It will get better. It may feel like it just keeps getting worse but just remember that it WILL get better.

Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
A quick update - still nothing on the job front and not happy about that. We're turning in about 6 applications/resumes a week (when there are that many to apply for) and not a thing. Grr
On the positive side, tho, two wonderful folks here sent us some funds for supplies and such, and the one who helped us with some rodents last time has helped again! Thanks to these awesome people, the snakes will be fed and clean for a while. :D :gj:
Now, if only I could find a good way to advertise the two snakes I'll be selling I could be even better off. :)
Ah well, try try try.

Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
Big update here - Please send good wishes and luck our way, as my partner Ari just left for an interview with a company that would be perfect for him. It's not gaming yet, but it's still good.
As our luck lately has been atrocious, any we can get right now would be great!
Oh, and as soon as I can figure out pricing, I will be posting my snakes on the sale threads. :) Keep an eye out.
Thanks to all!

As far as your "atrocious luck" goes. Read this.
Successful People Make Their Own Luck
13 October 2009 One Comment
Commitment to taking personal responsibility for your success is one of the keys to career and life success that is part of my Common Sense Success System. I discuss it in several of my books: Straight Talk for Success, Your Success GPS, and 42 Rules to Jumpstart Your Professional Success.
If you want to succeed, you must commit to three things. First, you must take personal responsibility for your success. Only you can make you a success. You need to be willing to do the things necessary to succeed. Second, you must set high goals — and then do whatever it takes to achieve them. Third, stuff happens; as you go through life you will encounter many problems and setbacks. You need to react positively to the negative stuff and move forward toward your goals.
A while back I blogged about a book called The Luck Factor by Richard Wiseman who claims that you can learn to be lucky. In fact, Dr. Wiseman even lists five steps for learning to be lucky.
First, don’t assume there is nothing you can do about any situation. Make the decision to take control.
Second, do something now.
Third, make a list of various options. Be creative. Brainstorm. Come up with as many ideas as you can.
Fourth, decide how you will move forward. Consider every possible alternative.
Fifth, take action. Be prepared to adapt your action as the future unfolds.
Richard Wiseman calls this a prescription for learning to be luck. I call it committing to taking personal responsibility for creating a successful life and career. Every one of the five steps above is a manifestation of your willingness to commit to taking personal responsibility for your life and career.
Let’s look at them again.
First, deciding that you can control a situation is the first step in controlling it. It’s like throwing a mental switch that puts you in charge and demonstrates your commitment to taking personal responsibility for your life and success.
Second, the mere act of doing something moves you forward. You may not be successful the first – or even second or third time – but the fact that you try and keep trying is another manifestation of your commitment to taking responsibility for your life and career.
Third, thinking through your options puts you in control. Often at first it may seem that your options are limited. However, if you take the time to review everything you can do in a given situation, you’ll be able to come up some good ideas for helping you get on top of any situation you face.
Fourth, choose and option, put it into play and see what happens. If it doesn’t work, choose another one. If that doesn’t work, choose another one. In this way, you are not only being systematic about creating your own success, you are demonstrating the resilience common to people who commit to taking personal responsibility for their success.
Fifth, be adaptable. What works at first may no longer work as you move forward. If you’re committed to taking personal responsibility for yourself and your success, you’ll change with the times. You won’t sit back and bemoan the fact that things have changed. You’ll be in charge, changing with the times – and even causing the times to change.
The common sense point here is simple. Successful people commit to taking personal responsibility for their lives and careers. You can demonstrate your commitment to taking personal responsibility for you success by doing five things. 1) Decide you are in control. 2) Do something to show yourself you are in control. 3) Think through all of your options in a given situation. 4) Choose an option and act. If it doesn’t work, choose another option. 5) Be adaptable. Change with the times. In The Luck Factor, Richard Wiseman calls these five steps a method for learning to be lucky. I say they are a recipe for demonstrating your commitment to taking personal responsibility for your life and career.
That’s my take on luck, personal responsibility and success. What’s yours?

I was gonna post a bit ago about that. Not exactly a good job but no pet stores looking to hire? (by good job i mean a job in which u make the big $$ :P)
Im sure with ur kknowledge one would like to hire?
-
Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
Oh believe me, pet stores and such are the first places I apply! I worked at Petsmart a while back, and would have liked it if not for a horrible manager. :)
I will be re-reapplying at the nearby Petco soon, and am also asking at a tractor/feed store in the area as well as the zoo. I also applied recently to an exotic small pet store, so we shall see.
But right now, I'm applying ANYWHERE. I just need an income...the big bucks can come later. :D

Drive and Ambition the 2 things that will get you anything you want in life you don't get a job? rather than sulking you pull yourself up and keep going for it!! thats a great trait and thats how i know you will be fine!
good luck on your search let us know when u get one!:gj::gj::gj::gj:
-
Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
Thanks so much for the continued support! This is one of the main reasons why I have that drive and ambition...hope from you guys. :D The search goes on.
Quick note here - My for sale thread is posted, so check it out and get back with me if you're interested in one of my sweet snakies. :)
-
Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
Just in case anyone still cares, nothing on the job front for either of us yet... but a few good things have happened.
1- I sold my lavender corn girl. :) A wonderful lady here on the forums has bought her, and will be getting her shipped out as soon as I get the kit from ShipYourReptiles. My Amel corn boy and my pastel female BP are still for sale, tho. *hint hint*
2- As spring rolls in, so do the performance opportunities for my new celtic music group 'Celt Check'. And we even get paid! That might be a 'duh' to most folks, but I've never performed for money before. :D So that along with the sale of the snakies should help us to keep paying for essentials while we keep up the job search.
I am still down and out from time to time, thinking that it's hopeless and there are too many people out there with better qualifications... but I keep slogging on. I just hope that someone will hire one of us soon.
-
Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
Many of us care! Keep us updated! Something will come along. Put applications in anywhere and everywhere. Focus on the little things that make you happy and the good things that come along (you getting paid for performances, having a little extra money from selling a snake, etc). It will get better. :D
-
Re: Same problem not getting fixed...now even MORE scared.
A job is FOUND! :banana::banana:
I start tomorrow at the best place imaginable.. see my Got the Job thread for details. :D
Now...if we can just find a job for Ari, then we can move into our OWN place again and I can build cages and get ready for breeding these snakes! Not to mention we'd be self-supported again...which is really important to us.
For now, yes my new job is only part time but at least it lets us pay for all the things that need to be payed for. :)
Now the only thing worrying me, other than finding a job for Ari, is how the heck I'm gonna get my remaining snakes sexed around here. :)
