Re: Stressed Python Question?
Looks like an 08.
I would not be worried about having an active snake. If all conditions are being met, then you have nothing to worry about.
I assume you have an UTH and have the right temps / humidity?

Well first of all, that does not look like an 08. Most likely an 09.
Your snake is stressed. You need two identical tight fitting hides. One for the cool side and one for the warm side. Half log hides do not provide enough security for ball pythons.

its not a log its a cave looking thing i guess and ive added another hide box to the hot side till tomorrow when i can go and get another cave for him
Re: Stressed Python Question?
look at the care sheet and mimick it. Very very good information. Also since you have a viv...you also might want to put something around the 3 sides of it to make him feel more secure. If you have a UTH...make sure that you have a thermostat controlling it. This is super important as some places will tell you that you will not need it. YOU DO!!
Like Kaorte stated...it looks like an 09 to me as well. If he is stressed still after your changes with 2 hides etc. you might also want to add more plants or something to fill up the tank. Also make sure you don't leave that light on all the time. They don't need it.
OK one more thing.....how often are you feeding him? He could just be hungry as well. Also balls are more active at night and tend to be in hides all day long.
Hope this helps!!
Re: Stressed Python Question?
It very well may be an 09. I can't tell how large that tank is. I assumed it was larger.....

No lighting is needed. You need to ditch the white lite and move to a Infared Red light if needed to keep cool side temps up.
If you dont have a heating pad for belly heat i suggest you do that as soon as you can. Also they need heat 24/7, so never turn off their heat at night.

kk thanxx! so keep da light on 24/7? since i dont got a heating pad?
Re: Stressed Python Question?
yes make sure if you don't have an under the tank heater....(I thought I read that you do) you keep a red heat lamp on him. The temps should be 82-83 cool....92-93 hot.
As far as the prey....make sure you go with something that is the size of your snakes thickest body area. A hopper might be too small....that is something you typically feed hatchlings. I am not sure if you know what your snake weighs or not?? That might help with an idea about her size. But picking out the size of a feeder is a hard thing when you are new. I always questioned myself with this. Still today it never ceases to amaze me how big they get their jaws.
Re: Stressed Python Question?
Ok...one other thing....I see you are using a stick on thermometer. Those are not accurite. Go to wally world, or lowes and get an acurite. It is about $12- and has a probe. Put the probe down into the substrate. It will tell you the temp at the probe as well as what your humidity is. I would guess that your humidity is pretty low since it is a large looking tank and you are heating with a light. (that is very common)
If your humidity is low you can foil off the screen part of your tank you can also put a humid hide in their with damp spagnum moss since you have so much room. Also make sure you spray down the tank at least once a day.
Again I have to refer you to the care sheet as it is such a great source of info. This was my snake keeping bible so to speak when I first started.
