Hello all, first post!

Hey everyone just joined this forum last night, and seems like a great community looking forward to getting to know you all :)

This is actually going to be my first breeding season, so I'm very excited. I've been cooling for about a little over a month now, and I decided to put my male pastel in with one of my breeder girls and they were locked up all day yesterday! He was in there for three days(1 day being locked up), so I plan on removing him for three days as well. But I have more females that I want him to lock up with too, 3 more to be exact. How many more times should I pair him up with he female he was just with until I can move on to the next girl?

If you have more then one female you want to breed your male to, you can move him around doesnt have to stay with one female at a time. So after his three days give him a few off try to feed then put him in with a new female. Hope this helps

Ahh ok...

So how long should I keep putting him in with females?

I haven't done any breeding yet, but I've read up on it tons, so I hope you don't mind regurged info. I was expecting this season to be my first breeding season, but real life got in the way, and some things are just more important so it got back burnered. :(

What I have heard from most people is to put the male in with the female for up to 3 days, but if he locks early, you can take him out as soon as they unlock. Then give him 3 days off, try to feed him during that time, and then put him back with a female, which can be either the same one or a different one. Keep up the 3 days on, 3 days off cycle, but watch your male for signs of overbreeding.

Keep at it until you have seen an ovulation. If you are sure a female has ovulated, you can stop putting the male in with her, but as a first time breeder, you might not be sure, and apparently there is no harm in putting the male in with her after ovulation, they just won't lock.

sorry to hear that your project got delayed, hopefully the ball python gods will reward you for your patience ;)

Say the lock was successful how long does take feel follicles? Also, how long until ovulation?

there is really no way to tell how long it will take for the ovulation, best thing to do is when you notice they are unlocked move him to the next female when you check on them and they are not locked leave them together for about 3 days and just keep pairing til the ovulation but dont forget to give the male some time off. hope this helps

I rotate my males 3 days on 4 days off ( removed only when and if male is unlocked of course). After each rest a new female is paired with him and I just continue cycling the females in order.

ahhhhh I get it.

I'm just so excited that he's taking interest. I tried doing it a couple of weeks ago and they just hung out. Put him in before I went to bed just for fun because I noticed him roaming around in his tub, and when I awoke....lockage!! :banana:

Almost all of my locks happen when i leave them in over night. At first the female shows no interest, then the next morning they are locked. And my 14 year old male will not eat a thing from mid to late November until mid to late March like clockwork, so don't be upset if yours doesn't want to feed.

ohh alright good because that is another thing I was wondering. He stopped about a month or so ago as well, and was wondering how healthy he is for breeding. Hes not skinny, and before this breeding season never missed a meal.

Hello and welcome! I put my male in with my girl 3 days on and 3 off, unless they lock immediately. Once they unlock I remove him and let him rest. My mojave boy usually gets it done immediately( with in like 2 hrs of being put in with my big girl), his locks usually last 24 to 36 hrs. so as soon as they separate I remove Mojo and put him in his own tub. The next day I offer him a meal. He just stopped eating about 2 weeks ago. He is young and this is his first season breeding. My older boys stopped eating around mid November. Check the Markus Jayne website and the 8ball BP websites for their breeding calendars and suggestions . Both are excellent! Hope this helps!
