    Baytril injections
After doing a bit of a search on the Net it appears that the prefered area for baytril is the main body of the blood python directly into the muscle on one side for faster absorption.2nd 1/3rd

I have a blood on a course now and the Vet recommends i inject it straight into the tail. Obviously i will take the vets advice and inject as shown but was just wondering if there is a reason she told me to inject the tail and not the top third.Or is it just a matter of preference and a way to avoid getting tagged

She did inject some vitamins in his top main body about the 2nd 1/3

Its one of those 'why didnt i ask when i was there ' type questions

Just curious so any body who has any input jump in

    NEVER in the tail NEVER!!!!!!!

Inject in the snake upper 1/3 of the body in what you would think is their "shoulder" area

Inject it at a 45 degree angle or so on either side of the spine in the little strap of muscle. Inject every other day and alternate sides between each dose.

Start from the back and go under a scale and push the needle in TOWARDS the front of the snake and inject.

Sounds like you need a new vet man.

thats what confused me because nowere on the net says the tail.
I ahve seen some good tutorials about and tehres a great one on rcrepltiles site which says first 1/3

Took me ages to find a vet that specializes in exotics too and there were a few things that were said that i was uncomfortable with

Its injection day on Thursday again and i was told every 3 days.

Ill stick to the days they said but change my area then

    Thanks

Do what they say I guess.

But Baytril is every other day or even every day in animals with some nasty infections.

Aminoglycosides like Amikacin are every 3 days as well as the popular Cephalosporin "Ceftazidime".

    Where do you live?

First day of injecting the blood myself and after a shakey start i think i nailed it. Got totally soaked by her spraying on me and i stunk but first injection down 4 to go.

Not too happy with injecting the tail but Guess im best of sticking to the way she told me

She says that way is just as effective and easier to do on my own.....

    Not too convinced

Im as happy as a pig in S**T

Again, you dont want to inject it into the tail.

You need to find a new vet.

Look at these links to find one.

It is surprising to me that your vet advised going through the tail

You want to be close to thick muscle, not skin and bone imo. The video posted was a good guide for anyone unfamiliar.

    Re: Baytril injections
Well thats why i spoke to her again before i gave the injection to be sure as i have only ever seen them given in the top of the body before and no were on the net mentions the tail.

The next one is due in a couple of days so im going to go as described in the video you posted. I feel more comfortable that way but kinda felt i had to bow down to the (apparent) superior knowledge of the vet.

Thanks again for the advice guys and ill keep you posted

Why would you inject a snake in the tail? Its not going to reach the internal organs that way....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

    Time for a new vet!

    FYI Guys

    Just given injection number 3.

Followed your advice and injected how and where the vid mentioned and it was soo much easier. The blood hardley noticed. Straight in and out and not even a slight sign of hissing or spraying like last time. She wasnt bothered at all.

Im on the lookout for a new vet on monday.

Good to hear! :) The key is to inject relatively near to the heart (which is usually 1/3 of the way down the body). Their blood pressure is so slow, you don't have much of a chance to get the Baytril flowing in the system anywhere else.
