    Woma or Black Headed?
I am trying to decide whether to get a Woma Python or a Black Headed Python. Any advice?

Also, I read somewhere that they need some UV. Is that true?

    Thanks

I have read this as well, but I know several people who breed both Womas and Black Heads with NO UV

I would love either of them. But i think i would go with a black head. If you havent looked into it that much, black heads are about 4-5 times as much as womas. Your looking in the 1200 dollar range for a black head. Im not sure about the whole UV thing. Ive never heard that they need the UV, but ive never kept either so i couldnt tell you for sure.

It's worth the price to me if it's the better snake :D

Haha yeah. Just saying because sometimes people are on a budget. There is a axanthic blackhead on kingsnake. :D

I saw a female black head at a pet store and it was hyooooge! Something to consider if size is an issue...

yeah, I'll probably go for a male for that reason.

I like the look of the black heads, but I am pretty interested in the tail wagging behavior of the woma. I don't know if the black head does that or not. Anyone know?

I just got a woma, she is awesome. Super docile so far, and I love the mustard coloured head and beautiful patterns. The black head just looks meaner to me lol! Plus they get alot bigger.

I'd go for a blackhead but that's just me.

Matt J over at www.monkeyfrog.com could probably answer some questions for you..

I would go for the Woma just cause their bad a$$ and get decent size on them.

The UV thing i think is optional as some breeders dont use them as they keep them in tubs, UV cant hurt any snake during the day but its sometimes a waste of money.

On a side note seen some baby Womas on fauna for 300 each if thats something your looking at.

I prefer the look for black heads to womas. But I do prefer the look of ringed pythons to black heads....ha, go with what you like the best!

    You're comparing apples to oranges.

A blackheaded python will require cage and the initial cost of the animal is at least 5x that of a woma.

Blackheads are a larger, girthier snake. If price is no object and you can afford a 6' cage down the road plus the larger food bill, by all means choose the BHP.

If cost is an issue, if space is an issue and if you want a snake with a more manageable size, go with the woma.

Like I said when you popped this question on another forum - I have never seen one of my BHPs caudal lure. Let me add here that not all womas do it.

As for UV light - it's not needed and if provided, not all UV bulbs are suitable for snakes.

    I appreciate all the feedback!
I think I'm not up for a 6 foot cage, so I'm leaning toward the Woma.
Too bad about the caudal luring - I sure would love to see that sometime!

I love the look of the Blackheaded, but the size is probably too much for me.
