Dude, i love your dwarf Tiger.
its so sexy.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SO SO SOO SOOOOOOO sexy.
i cant stop staring at it.
Make me some SD tigers, before they get banned lol

Re: Bins
Python reticulatus is a semi arboreal snake. Not to mention active, intelligent (for a snake) and inquisitive. In all my years of (in)experience, I have noticed them to have a preference for resting above ground curled in branches very similar to GTPs.
Now, I hate bins for any species of animal, but that is just me. Being a keeper of the larger reptiles, I prefer large enclosures that give my animals options. In a bin a snake cannot explore, climb, swim or hide. I also don't like having to disturb (pull the bin out) in order to observe my animals.
Sorry for the late reply - I haven't checked in here for awhile.
And again, your retics are gorgeous.

Re: Feeding Pics... (DUW!)
thanks man... i'm not worried about him at all... like i said i can tell it is just inexperience talking. (not being rude just pointing it out)
-
Re: Feeding Pics... (DUW!)
You have some faaaabulous snakes. I can see the point of the argument against racks, but they thrive in either one, so hey. I'll probably end up with a mixture, because i loooove to set up awesome tanks, but racks are so easy to regulate, clean, etc. (I'd give all my guys real dirt and plants if i could, but I doubt that would end well, or be very easy to heat, hahaha. i suppose that's what I have the frogs for )

Yeah, inexperience. I got my first giant in 1986. When did you start? This was before the "tub" craze came into effect.
You guys are all mindless.

Re: Feeding Pics... (DUW!)
Chris is likely one of the most experienced reptile keepers I know. In both monitors and giants. I think you best respect what he says, and don't be so ignorant next time. Do a little research background check maybe. Also, you did not defend your point at all, you simply avoided it by saying he is inexperienced. In my mind, you are scared to defend the fact that you use bins because you know he is right and that a retic would much rather live in a more suitable enclosure. That being said, the only species I know to do well in bins is ball pythons, and for that I do keep them in bins. But everything else, as expensive as it is, has a full enclosure, as that is what I feel is right. Beautiful retic's, I wish I could get one. Gonna have to stick with my burm for now though. ~Caylan.S.~

Re: Feeding Pics... (DUW!)
That tiger is hot.
Though, I'd invest in some forceps. Last thing I'd want is for the snake to miss the rodent and cut it mouth and risk possible infection on those things.

Those things are still going to be 10'+. They're never going to be pure dwarf again. Just like the people who complain about hybrids and how people say they don't want that stuff muddying up their collections. Tiger retics generally get bigger than normal retics. There's never going to be a REAL super dwarf albino like so many people would like. Breeding a 50% dwarf to a 50% dwarf will result in.....

Re: Feeding Pics... (DUW!)
Who the hell wants dwarf/super dwarfs?
This is the Giant Python section...

The people who like how they look but know they aren't capable of keeping a snake that could potentially reach 20'. The people who know it would need to be fed large rabbits, pigs, and potentially goats and cannot afford such a food bill.

Re: Feeding Pics... (DUW!)
There is absolutely nothing wrong with keeping retics in tubs. They do great in them. I have been doing it for years.

Just what is your definition of "doing great"? Not dying? Reproducing? Eating?
There's nothing wrong with solitary confinement in prisons, either. We've been doing it for years...
If your snakes are doing so well in them, leave them open - just a crack - and then leave the room for an hour.
I can leave the door open on my ackies' enclosure all day long and they won't leave it. I know they are not snakes, but that is my definition of "doing great"...

Yeah i know, but still you can get darn close...
like... T5 babies.
so dwarf tiger x SD
then those babies into SD
then those babies into SD
then those babies into SD
etc etc etc...
No they will not be pure, but they wont be a giant.
and i dont want him to breed, i have my pure SDs. I want him as a pet.

THANK YOU TRAVIS KUBES!
(By the way Mumps... T.K. here, has much more experience with retics than im sure you will ever have.)
Travis not only produced my SDs, and the Retics on this page, but he has a very nice collection of these beauties as well.
If it wasnt for him, i wouldnt know that much about "true SDs" and id be stuck with one of the Kuyadi Island retics i wanted before.

Actually I took them to a pet psychic and they told her they love it in there. I assure you my snakes are more than happy and healthy. Retics are active and like to explore. Whats the point of leavig a cage open to see if they come out? If they didnt come out then I might be worried. Great points though man!
-
Re: Feeding Pics... (DUW!)
Ideally they would have a larger inclosure, Real world they don't..The addictions/animals people put into a bedroom doesn't allow for it..
I feel Chris has a passion for what is ideal and what we'd all LOVE to provide..
HOWEVER theres just so much you can fit in a bedroom..SO we do the best with what we have and its suitable..BUT if ya had the space, the $$ you'd likely fix up some wicked cool habitats..TRUTH is only the rich and institutions can do that..

So, why the tubs? Are you able to get all of your snakes out regularly so they can be active and explore?
Fiend - sorry, I only have 19 yrs. of experience with retics. You're probably not even that old yet...

The funny thing is, look at all the morons who keep snakes for years and years, without proper care. I think its funny that the only thing you can ever bring up is my "inexperience" because of my age.
I could argue the fact that i knew people when i was 3 years old that had retics, and they had them for years and years, and THE CARE IS STILL NOT PROPER.
Again Chris, older doesn't mean your better, or smarter.
Maybe that's something you don't have experience in...
Realizing that someone younger, can know more than you.
I can tell you still have years of learning to do, as well as growing up.

Yeah I dont think we are going to get a reply from this one.

Re: Feeding Pics... (DUW!)
Yeah, nothing is happier than a 20 foot retic in a tub that is 6x3x1...
I didn't post on this thread to start an argument. Nothing I say will convince the "tubbies" that they are doing it all wrong, and nothing the "tubbies" can say will make me switch to tubs.
And of course Fiend knows more than me. I've been doing it all wrong all this time... Chime back in when you have an animal that is 20 years old that you've had since a hatchling (like my iggy...)

Re: Feeding Pics... (DUW!)
sorry i didnt respond sooner... to be honest i rarely even look at this forum... for the people that say Retics have to have these huge enclosures go and do a little research at testing yourself... take a 15 foot retic and put it in a 6ft x 30inch x 18 inch cage and see what it does... it will find the spot it likes the most and stay there 99.9999% of time unless it is eating or getting a drink... some times they roam at night if they are under fed... now that that same retic and stick it in a 10ft x 10ft x 10ft enclosure... it is going to do the same thing... find the spot it likes the most and stay thee except to eat and drink, and again will only really roam if it is under fed and looking for food... also a bigger enclosure will make the snake feel more stressed bc it will feel it has a big area it has to defend... you will get a more aggressive and much more stressed out snake...
