The Unthinkable Happened to my Retic

I really don't know what to say right now so if my thoughts sound jumbled sorry.

I just got back from the vet's office. Came home today after work for a lunch break, and I went to go check on my snakes and feed the ones I didn't yesterday. And next the next thing I'm freaking doing is driving to my Vet's office. I found my male SD retic dead..I'm in shock and I'm not quite sure how I should react since right now I can barely stop my hands from shaking. He wasn't stiff, no rigor mortis so he must have died when I was at work. There was blood coming out of his mouth the vet said it was probably internal bleeding like an anuerysm or something idk. Shes going to do a necropsy I don't really remember what she said since my mother thought it was funny to mock me and the situation which I'm still furious about. I checked EVERYTHING once I got back and before I left to the Vet. Nothing what so every seems wrong or out of place. I'll let yall know the results when I get them.

Not to be rude, but tell your mom to buff off....no need to mock someone in a situation like this.......we ACTUALLY care for our snakes......sorry man.

I am sorry to hear that Jason I know how much you loved your SD.

Sadly sometimes they just die it happens, try not to beat yourself up (or anyone else) and hopefully your vet will be able to shed some light on what might have happen.

Loosing a pet is never easy whether that pet is a furry one or a scaly one and hopefully your mom can understand that. :hug:

My condolences as well. I know how I felt when I lost my Het female Red Tail and the Pastel Ball I got last year shortly after taking delivery of them. Hopefully your vet can find out the exact cause of death. Keep us posted!!

Really sorry to hear that Jason... It's always hard when you know you've given your snake everything it needs to thrive. Hopefully you find your answers with the necropsy.

sorry to hear that, keep your chin up it was obviously something you could do nothing about, unfortunately these things do and will continue to happen.

I am sooo sorry to hear of his sudden and untimely passing. I can't imagine all of the things that must be going though your head right now. There are few words of comfort. Please let us know the results when you feel able.

Hopefully those answers will help you find some closure...this is just so sad:tears:

No rudeness taken, she was being very sarcastic at the vet and I just told her to leave. She still thinks its ridiculous that I'm having a necropsy done on him; to her small animals (like my snakes) are like goldfish, "if one dies get another one simple as that - no emotion needed", "a dime a dozen". I obviously feel very different about that.

Right now I'm just wanting answers, so the wait begins. She said the results should be known in a couple weeks or so but since this is a small town I think I'll get them sooner.

Oh my goodness....I am so sorry to hear that this has happened. I cannot imagine what you are going through right now and all I can say is that Im sorry.

Once this passes....I would just sit down and talk to your mom and let her know how this really hurt your feelings. I think that some ppl think less of a pet if it isn't a dog or a cat.

That is so sad. My sincere condolences.

Jyson, I'm sorry for your loss, and hope that you get some usable information, and some closure from the necropsy. Being in a small town, it may actually take a bit longer, if labwork has to be sent out - but it will come.

Your mom reminds me of my own father who, over 40 years ago, laughed like a hyena when a little boy's pet parakeet died.

It still stings.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It is hard losing someone you care about. I just recently had two ferrets pass very suddenly so I feel your pain. I hope the vet can shed some light on how your retic died. And I'm sorry your mother is making this harder on you. Some people do not understand the love we have for these reptiles and mock any grief we have over losing them. (I cried like a baby when my little Rubiix died). Keep us updated.

Sorry to hear about your SD, I do hope you get some conclusive results from the necropsy. Don't beat yourself up, as has been said, these things do just happen. That does not make it any easier, nor does knowing the results really. It does help down the road though. Take it easy, I know how you feel and it just plain sucks :(
Having necropsies done helped me immensely when two of my Leo's died (at different times), I was sure it was something I had done or not noticed. I was relieved (well...) to find they both died of aneurysms and nothing could have prevented it even if I had known about them.

I point out t o mom later on ( sarcasticly) that your net retic will cost more out of pocket money than a stupid gold fish along the line of a couple xbox 360s,and watch her mouth drop.

I am so sorry. I know you take great care of your animals. As for your mom, she just needs to understand that those of us that take the care of any living being very seriously, become very upset when we lose those beings, even when it is not our fault.

I had a little chit-chat with my mom last night. And she apologized for her behavior after I helped her understand the seriousness of the situation and why I needed to get the necropsy done.

It sucks that he is gone, he was the tamer retic out of my two and was definitely one of my favorites I'm gonna miss him, RIP Razor.

Sorry to hear That Jason, I seen his picture a few times.. Good to hear the vet was able to tell you what happened, Probably couldn't give you a why it occurred though..Glad to hear of moms realization too..

Again, I am very sorry you had to suffer though this. Thank you for letting us know the cause. Hopefully this information will help bring some closure and help begin the healing process.

Damn that has got to suck so badly.. I can't imagine any of my pythons dying. And it would be kind of weird because the pythons use a lot of muscle when you handle them and seeing them limp would probably freak me out. I am so sorry this happened to you, you have my sympathy.:tears:

Sorry for your loss man. Glad your vet was able to provide you some bit of closure. Sometimes it makes it a bit easier to swallow when at least you understand the "why" of it.
