How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I know there are many of you that have ball pythons for breading and selling purposes... Although how many of you have them just because they are your pet???
I wonder this because we have 2 female ball pythons that are our pets... Just seeing how many others are out there...

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
Well, just because some people breed and sell, does not mean that they love their snakes any less then someone who doesn't. I keep my snakes as pets but also plan to breed them this season, and sell some of their offspring. :)

No where in by post talked about someone not loving their ball pythons. You can be a breader and love them... I am asking how many people have them just as a pet... :gj:

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
Just a pet here. No plans for breeding. :)

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I only have one bp but im hopeing to get a boa soon or another bp but they would deff be only pets for now at least haha until i get more bps then i plan to breed them BUT that is going to be far far from now, but currently they are pet only! :D

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I breed and they are all my pets but if I were ever to sell my breeders and cut way back I do have quite a few favorites that I would never be able to part with. So I will always have a sizable list of pet snakes even if I didn't breed.

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?

Must have missunderstood the "breeding and selling purposes" part. Sorry. :)
But like I said, both for me. I do plan on expanding in the future as well.

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I have a female Pastel at the moment which for me at this time, is just my amazing pet. I do plan on breeding her, and I will sell a few of the babies depending on how many I get. But my real point in breeding her will be simply to add more beautiful pets to my collection that it would otherwise take me for EVER to afford.

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
My son started out with one as a Bday present from Grandma....5 months later....we have 4. They are all my babies and I love each and everyone of them as my pets. I will breed in the future but who knows what will happen then. My son tells me it would be very mean of me to give away our babies ...babies...lol:rolleyes:

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
Just pets I own 2 BPs and 2 Colombian BCIs both boys and girls pair but I wont breed them.
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I have two for now but i do plan on getting more and breed as a hobby but they are my pets
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
Mine are strictly pets.
Breeding has it's appeal, but I've got no intention of getting into it.
After breeding rare fish for many years, I've had my fill of breeding.

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I have two ball pythons, a male and female normal. They are my pets and I do not have any plans on breeding at this time. I will be adding a male spider to my collection later on this year some time.
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I have one female normal BP that I love. I'd love to get a male lesser, and eventually breed to get a BEL. That would be the only reason I'd want to breed. I just dont see spending 1,500+ on a snake...only for a pet. I can understand the reasoning if you breed for a living.
Back to the original topic of the thread though...I only have one for a pet.
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I have two BP's - one Male Ghost and one Female Normal but both mine are just pets - I enjoy having them - no plans for breeding. I would like to get another one some day though.

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
Whether I decide to breed or not, I love all of my animals no less than the others. I have 10 snakes, and I play with all of them everyday. They are my babies! :D
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I have two, a normal male ball python and a green tree python.
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
Pets only here, I guess I don't really see any reason to breed balls, everybody and their brother already is. I've just been waiting it out with my normal for prices to drop so I can buy some morphs. I just have the one snake now but planning for a couple more balls and one or two other species.
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
My one and only snake right now is a carpet python.
I plan to breed her down the road.
The thing is, any reptile I breed IS a pet first and foremost. Breeding isn't done for money, it's done to experience the animal for everything it is.
I don't know where people got this idea that an animal must be essentially neutered for it to be a 'pet'. Think of all the little girls with a dozen guinea pigs that spawned out of her two original pets. Are the babies any less pets?

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
Mine are pets right now, as they're not up to breeding size. Once they are I might breed them. Only reason is to get an animal that I can not afford to buy. Since they're all 09's, alot can change in the time they will take to get to breeding size, so nothing is for sure.

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I have several that are pets only, I don't ever plan on breeding them. A couple if them are ball pythons and I doubt that I will ever breed my Macklots python either.
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I have a normal male who I love to death. I also have a female snow striped corn. They are both just pets. Im still learning bout snakes and hope to have more in the future to maybe breed some day. I want to breed more for hobby then for buisness.
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I have one normal male that I bought off of a breeder almost 7 years ago. He's my only BP and he's just a pet. I have no plans of breeding or getting any more BPs. Part of the reason is lack of room, but I'm not sure I'd have any more bps anyway. I'm happy with having one BP as a pet. I'm a busy person who isn't home all that much, so I'd rather have just one that I can take good care of then have a bunch of them and risk not having the time to properly take care of them all.

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
all of my ball pythons are my pets. sure i breed them but they will be here forever
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
Mine are all pets. I don't really think I have the patience for breeding right now. Maybe in a few years, but I haven't really put much thought into it. Even if I do breed, my snakes will still be pets. I couldn't imagine parting with one/trading to get a different snake, or not handling them anymore. I know some people are fine with snakes that are more decorative then handled, but I get most my enjoyment out of holding them. Even if they probably don't notice much either way, I just find them fascinating to hold.

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
Mine are and will always be my precious pets. I respect breeders but have my own opinion on the practice of breeding. One day I would love to acquire an adult Argentine Boa, but they are precious and nurtured pets.

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
All of my snakes are pets first and breeders second. Though I do have one male who was a rescue. I considered breeding him to see if he carried any hidden genes, but decided against it for now, so he is just a pet. He's my most mellow snake and I love him dearly. :D
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I don't have any plans for breeding reptiles.
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
All my ball pythons are pets before anything.
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I do plan on breeding my BPs, but they are pets first. :) Even the huge breeders like NERD and 8Ball care about all their animals.
IMHO, the only folks who wouldn't see their snakes as pets first are the ones who ONLY care about making some money...and as we all know, that is SO wrong.
Oh, and I also have corn snakes that are pets only. :D

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
I have one, he is 7 months old and is my pride and joy, I do pamper him a bit too much lol, I dropped a few hundred bones on his viv and decor alone but I don't regret it at all.

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
Our sole snake is a beloved family pet. :)
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
Yup, just pets here. I am in the process of saving up for a couple of GTP, they will be pets as well, but I may breed them for some extra change.

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
Mine is just a pet, I want to get a albino of the opposite sex and i might try to breed them, but that is still a distant reality.
-
Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
just a pet for now but im just waiting to breed till i have a bit more experiance with the snakes.

Re: How many of you have a pythons as a pet only?
All 4 of my BPs are pets. Im not sure when I'll breed them, the girls are not up to size anyways. I dont think I will breed them as long as Im living in an appartment. I started a 1.2 ASF colony as feeders, but they grew in me fast. I pretty much took care of them as they were my pets lol. But as soon as I knew I will be moving in to an appartment, I told my self that I would not let them grow in to me anymore lol. Eventualy I fed them off and their off-springs.... I MISS the litte buggers alot... they were so stinking cute and funny to watch... :tears:
