    Sell Me On Spiders
I've been contacted by a local breeder saying he has some Spiders in stock and it peaked my curiosity. He's willing to let one go for $275 for a male or $300 for a male. These are Canadian prices keep in mind. My question is simply, how common are Spiders these days? I currently have two regulars and would like something that doesn't kill the bank but at the same time stands out from my others.

they're a pretty common base morph but they make incredible combos.

They are a pretty common morph in my opinion.

Well, depending on the gender of your normals, you could breed a spider to a normal and theoretically get, 2 spiders, and 2 normals out of every 4 eggs. They do make some awesome combos. If you plan on breeding ever, those are some pretty good reasons to get one.. :D

Ok I appreciate you input. I might just have to throw my hat into the boa ring and have a go with one of them.

Spiders are awesome but I think those prices might be a bit high, although I am not familiar with the canadian market. I paid $200 USD for my female spider and she is a great example of a spider.

There are a lot of other really cool looking morphs that are pretty affordable. Pastels, pins, mojaves are all around the same price.

Not up here they aren't. Local pet stores have Mojaves between $650 and $750. An actual breeder about an hour away sells Albino's for $600-800. Just like anything else that requires any importing or time, it's almost double or triple the price up here. I hate Canada sometimes haha

Pet stores are always going to have higher prices. If you buy from a breeder or at a show, you can always get a lower price. I always try and negotiate a lower price.

That albino pricing from a breeder seems right online with what is for sale here in the US.

That's a pretty normal price for here in Canada. For the females it's actually pretty good, but I've seen males for $250. Don't hate Canada... just think, what you breed can be sold for that much more also. It works out. :gj:

Not sure why people are commenting on the price when they aren't familiar with the Canadian market. :weirdface

Everyone keeps saying that when I talk about price. The thing is, I'm not in this to breed. So the potential in income is not why I choose certain breeds and why I will probably always end up going the male route.

Spiders definately have a different look from a normal. I would pay the difference to get a female because they get more valuable as they grow.

Being that i also keep tarantulas, every time i see a thread on spiders i automatically think thats what you are talking about. Not that it has anything to do with this thread but i find it amusing so i decided to share.

250-300 is as good a price as you'll get outside of a show in Canada. If you have the money, go for it. Just remember that Spiders do tend towards neurological problems, evidenced by the famous 'wobble'.

That sounds like a fair Canadian price. My local pet store has a baby male spider for $399.99. You can get them for $250-$300 at a show so your breeder is being reasonable! I am in Ontario!

I have a spider and she has the wobble pretty bad. She does the corkscrewing and can be a little on the defensive side, she twists her head in awkward positions and can easily strike from these positions,(which she has tried to do to me a few times) but once she's out and calms down, she's awesome. I love her and I was in the same positions as the OP, kind of on the fence about it but decided to go ahead with it anyway and I think she's awesome, you just have to experience it. If you have to be talked in to buying one, don't buy one. I didn't have someone talk me into it. Watch some videos, and read about it.. That's what I did,and don't regret it for a second. It will be a little weird at first and will have you step back and watch, but you get used it. Either do it, or don't. Even if you aren't in it for breeding, I feel it's still a cool morph to have around IMO.

    Hi,

There is one problem with that - he would need to arrange cites permits and everything to have them shipped to Canada.

    It's generally not cheap.

I think...dollar for dollar, it's hard to get a more 'exotic' looking BP. They're also the key ingredient for many other awesome morphs. I love spiders!
