Re: Our Pet Monkey
Where on earth did you get a monkey?!
I've seen them for sale but it's been years!
I was always intrigued by them but was put off by the specialized diet they required.

Re: Our Pet Monkey

Got him from a breeder in FL. He was in pretty bad shape when we got him. My wife researched and learned exactly how to care for him, she has done GREAT! He does have a special powder formula that she mixes with yogart to give him all the special nutrients he needs. Other than that he eats whatever we eat, except fried foods!!!! LOL I got in a little trouble for the fried chicken but he was mostly eating the chicken out of the inside, not the breading. We were told numerous times how crazy we were for getting him because he would always be too "wild" to make a good pet! THEY WERE WRONG. He is our little man and makes a great pet. He loves attention and goes with us to all the reptile shows we set up at.

Re: Our Pet Monkey
When i first saw him at the show, i had to take a double look. I did not expect to see a little tiny monkey getting his yellow leather diaper changed! Thats a very cool pet though Frankie and i sure taking care of him is just as fun as it is work.

Re: Our Pet Monkey
He is darling. I went to a pet shop once that had a monkey. I don't remember what kind it was but it was obviously psychologically scarred. It was mean, threw poop, screeched and carried on and tried to bite anything near it. I felt so bad for it.

Re: Our Pet Monkey
My college's psych dept had cotton top tamarins.
Apparently, they recognize individual people by their footwear. If you change shoes, they don't know who you are and get pissy. They also don't like anyone who wears flip flops.
Interesting, no?

Bud don't like head wear...he is amaized with ears and teeth...lol If I have on a hat or my wife has a towel wrapped around her hair after a shower he will put out an ear peircing scream!! What's funny is to watch him around men he don't know, he will puff his hair out, lay his ears back, and squint his eyes, trying to make himself big and scary!!.lol I told Christy we should have named him King Kong after seeing him do that.

Re: Our Pet Monkey

Re: Our Pet Monkey

Re: Our Pet Monkey
Yea, I would love to see a picture of his enclosure!

Re: Our Pet Monkey
Bud is around 3/4 lbs now at 9 months old. He will get to 1 1/2 lbs - 2 lbs max. We get the "spank your monkey" joke a lot..lol, but yes, when he misbehaves he will get spanked.
Adam...you are Christy's $&!# list now for calling him a sugar glider...she is planning their attack when they see you again!!!
Bud stays in a large ferret cage, It has like 4 levels, lots of toys and he sleeps in a ferret hammock. The only cage requirements is UV light for vitamin D and it is suggested to change things around every so often to keep him from getting bored. I will post some pics tomorrow. He gets about 2 hours a day to run the house free, diaper on and cat put away of course!!
