    Our Crew (DUW)
Its been a while since I've posted any pictures of my furry family. We have a new addition! She is a 5 mo. old Great Dane. Our friend's sister needed to find a new home for her due to health issues (her's not the puppies). She fits right in and is a GOOF! Her name is Cricket. Also, our other dogs, Toda (Pit Bull/German Shorthaired Pointer mix) & Logan (Boston Terrier).

    Enjoy!

Working on training. She's already grown about twice as big since this picture was taken!

    Handsome Logan!

Cute doggies! I love the black and white theme going on!

I'm pretty set that I'm going to get a great dane once we move into a house.

Oh my gosh the cutest dogs EVER!!!! All black and white dogs! That's awesome!

The Dane is gorgeous, and her ears are absolutely beautiful!

Is she still being posted? I'm going to be jealous if you say no. I had to post my Dobies ears for 6 months!!! That would have made her 7 months old!

Thanks! We've always wanted one too and were going to wait till we got a house with some property but we couldn't pass up the opportunity. :D

Thank you! Her previous owners had them done. Who ever did them did a great job. I guess it called a show cut.

Yeah, I still have to post them :(. Her ears were good for a week or so but started to flop. Its so frustrating. :rolleye2:

Beautiful dogs!! Keep up on posting your Danes ears they are cut nicely and will be awesome once they are standing strong. I have heard supplementing with calcium may help strengthen them???

Yep, my dobie is show cropped as well. I'm so glad your still posting them :devilish: I was going to hurt you if you weren't :D They look gorgeous though! The one thing I will say is don't give up!!!! It will be totally worth it if you just keep at it. I wish I lived by you! I actually miss posting ears! I did it so darn much my week just isn't complete anymore

Did they show you a really easy way to post them? Hopefully they did! Do you use baby oil to get the tape off? If the ears started falling 3-4 days after I took off the postings I put them back up. Don't freak out about her laying on them and ruining them, like in the first picture, that will still happen long after you're done posting. And if you ever mess up one week and screw one of them up, don't beat yourself up over it. I freaked one week and was so upset with myself for leaving them taped up when they weren't quite perfect. They were fixed after another week of posting. No big deal :D

Sorry if you already know all of this and are familiar with posting. I just hate seeing people with lopsided dogs because they gave up. I actually had the guts to ask most of the dobie owners I met around here and they did admit to giving up. I've met four dobies at the dog park and all four of them only have one good ear!!! Don't give up!!!

Hee hee :P. I've never done this before so any advice is awesome! They kind of showed us how they did it but when we tried at home they kept falling off right away :(. I looked up other ways and after some trial and error we figured it out. She still gets them off though :rolleye2:. It seemed like the athletic tape was just not sticking. Is it ok to use some other, stronger tape? So its been like one or two days up and then a few days down. Her left one still wont stand up unless she is alerted. How did you do it? Did your dog leave them alone? Plus, our Boston thinks they are toys. Uggg.

Oh good! I was hoping I wouldn't upset you! :D

I used cloth tape from the vet, which is actually the same cloth tape they use at hospitals. The brand is Kent if I remember right.

The breeder I got my dobie from has a really awesome way of doing the ears. Here's a link to how to made the sticks http://www.guardianangelk9.com/makingsticks1.html

And a link on how to post them
    http://www.guardianangelk9.com/earposting.html

You may have to tape them together like she does. That's what I did with my girl until her ears were strong enough to stand on their own while posted.

Then when they were standing on their own while posted
    http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...Athena/007.jpg

She was never once able to get them off. The cloth tape is really really sticky! Most vets should have that tape, otherwise you might have to go to a farm vet. Pretty much all the vets in my area are farm vets, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Oh you know what, I would be more than happy to send you the tape we have left. You can PM me your address, I have a couple small rolls left in my car. My mom is a nurse, so I didn't have to pay for them :P

I did the ears one week up, one week off. Unless they were looking really bad, then it was only 3-4 days off.

Thanks for the link. They have us using cardboard tampons wrapped in the tape. Works well though because she has really long ears. She always pops the posts out of the bell of here ear shaking her head. I have been keeping an eye on here ears to make sure she doesn't have an ear infection that would cause her to shake her head. I think she is just done with the whole process

Thank you for offering to send me your tape. I'll ask our vet if they have a good cloth tape. I have an appointment next weekend anyway. If they don't and the new athletic tape I bought doesn't do the trick I'll definitely PM you. hopefully we're almost done :D She has three more days with this set then we'll see if they are good.

Ps. Your dog is soooo cute and her ears look awesome in the pic in your sig! You did a good job.

I ended up taping two popsicle sticks together so they would be longer. You would have to do the same with those big ears!

Athena would shake her head for the first day or so too. I don't think you'll have to worry about an infection since her ears are healed, and as long as her ears are dry when you post them. Hopefully the vet will have that tape!

Here's a bigger one of that picture :P
