    pet store had no hoopers
hey guys im am pretty ticked right now so bear with me.

my snake eats every week on tuesdays because that is when the store gets their mice.

my snake is about 5 moths old and is on 2 hoppers every week.

well my wife went on wednsday because the store was closed early on tuessday, only to find that they were sold out of hoppers, which I found odd considering I live in a small city but anyhow...

the lady at the store suggested my wife to get 3 fuzzies....

needless to say I was quite pissed off when I attempted to feed him 1 and the poor thing couldnt even kill the damn thing.

it was so small he couldnt even get 1 wrap on the mouse to kill it so eluded to just swallowing the stupid thing whilst it was still squirming.

I wanted to take the mouse out of his mouth in fear that he may get injured but decided not to interfere with the hungry bastard. I returned the other 2 fuzzies to the store and wanted to yell at this chick.

I am running into town tomorrow to grab a couple fat hoppers for him as a reimbursement because I don't think he is too impressed with me right now and I feel like crap man.

I was just about to say, at 5 months they should be eating at least one adult mouse weekly... my guys who are 8 months old eat 2-3 adults weekly, so I'm sure yours could handle 1-2. Do you know how much he weighs?

Oh, and I wouldn't bother getting him more food tomorrow - just wait until your next scheduled feeding, and he'll be all the more happy to take his first adult mouse. :gj:

^^ That. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about not feeding for a week. Even 5-month olds can go a couple weeks without losing any weight. I'm kind of sympathetic to the store on this one since sometimes we run out of a size at my work and I'm on the receiving end of this kind of anger. Your snake will forgive you, I promise. :P

Yeah, that's kinda silly, considering my baby CORN snake eats fuzzies...

I agree with moving up to adult mice. My girl is only 3 months old, and is pounding adult mice. You will be surprised what they can take in. I cant recall if you feed live mice, but I would suggest getting F/T (Frozen/Thawed) to eliminate the risk of your BP getting hurt/bit. If you try and search on that topic, you'll find a good bit of information. But thats just my opinion. Good luck!

Your snake can definitely move up in prey size. Most BPs can start on hoppers right out of the egg and move up to adult mice after only a few meals. Another advantage to moving up in size is that while it can be hard for a store to keep babies of the appropriate sizes in stock (can't always control when a mouse will have a litter), they should always have adults in stock.

I wouldn't worry too much about the snake eating the live fuzzy. They seem to have some understanding of when a prey item is too small/weak to hurt them, and will sometimes choose to skip the whole constriction step to save energy I suppose.

My 600g BP happily eats anything my other snakes rejects, including fuzzies, even pinks if they were offered. I don't think feeding your snake 3 fuzzies instead of 2 hoppers would have been a problem.

May need to tone down the language a little bit. Profanity expressed or implied in frowned upon as stated in the TOS...

At 5 months a hopper is way too small as well... I feed larger hatchlings small adult mice sometimes

I don't think my language was inappropriate , come on, if you really get offended by words like damn, pissed, and hell then I would have to say that you are a little sensitive on the subject, because those are just words to express anger, what would you like me to say gee wilikers that darn lady.

That would disingenuous of me because that's not how I speak. just being myself and that's how I felt at the time, please forgive me. I just think society is waaaay to sensitive these days man.

Do you know what the fine is for saying a bad word on the radio? 60,000 dollars. that's ridiculous.

I'm not offended or sensitive on the subject. I was just giving you a heads up because others may be. That's all...

lol I am not really that worked up to be honest, the whole thing about people being offended by a word that isnt directed to anyone in particular and a word that isnt even considered foul language baffles me.

Thanks for the heads up though. what happened to freedom of speech, society is so unbelievably watered down these days that you can't say anything without getting fined or warned or whatever. like is someone going to see the word damn and start crying or get legitimately offended, I sure hope not man, they might think less of me and perhaps people think that will reflect on this site, but it shouldn't, it should be a reflection on that particular person.

    end rant

anyhow I am dethawing an adult mouse and am going to see if this little turd monster will eat it.

I hope the word turd doesn't offend anyone.... sarcasm calm down people lol

One way to avoid this in the future is to go to F/T's or have your own small breeder colony.

btw its also not a big deal to feed small prey items...

I just fed my smaller girl a fat rat pink because it was hurt from being bit by another mother. I didn't want it to suffer so I fed it off. She ate it without a problem. I'm not sure that the pet store was in the wrong here, and you might be slightly over-reacting. No big deal, move on to your next feeding.
