? about how much to feed
oook soo i have a 8 month old and 6 month old bp.. the 8 month old is 2 times as round as my 6 month old.. the younger one is way too small ... i am sure this is due to not getting her to feed the 1st month i had her... but now she eats like there is no tomorrow... but she doesn't seem to be getting any bigger.. i think this is due to her getting longger.. so i need to feed her more to get her weight up.. but i don't know how to go about it... ive been feeding her adult mice for a while now.. but she is too small for a rat.. or even a small rat.. and my pet store doesn't even have frozen rats..

and after the run in with the one rat i had... (it bit my bp).. im never getting a live rat again.. they are mean.. but then again i guess my bp was trying to eat it lol... but anyways...

can you feed a bp 2 mice in one feeding day? or maybe feed her one day and then again a day later...

basicaly how do you all think i should go about getting more weight on her..

    thanks for your help!!!!! :gj:

Yes you can feed two mice in one feeding. Just wait until the snake fully swallowed the first mouse and yawned a time or two.

Just start feeding her two mice a week, she will put on the pounds.

I would try rat pups and feed every 5 days to get her up! My male bp is 6 months, eats small rats and is 502 grams. They all grow at different rates but it will give you an idea! Go with 15% of the body weight. So if the snake is 400 grams then go with 60 grams of prey. That is two rat pups or two adult mice. That will get weight on her in no time! Good luck!

Alot of people judge prey size approximate to the girth of the snake (widest part of the body), it's fine if the prey is a bit larger.

You should try to actually switch it to the same width rat. Instead of mice. Rats will help your snake put on weight faster.

Once you can figure out the proper size mouse, just get 2 rats the same size(not same weight), just make sure they are about the same girth as the widest part of the snake.

i would do this but like i said i do not have a way to get frozen rats... and im not feeding life rats to my snakes again after one bit my snake.. i guess i could get one and kill it before giving it to my snake but mice are hard enough to kill.. they are fast.. and rats are faster and prolly just harder to kill in general... so im not going to do that either.. but thanks for your post!

Seriously? They are simple to kill. Grab them by the tail, and smack them on the concrete hard and they die. I can kill a rat by plucking it in the head, the same way I killed a mouse, and thats not even smacking them on the concrete which is 10x more of an impact. Frozen rats, Frozen mice, you can order them online.

    rodentpro is a perfect example.

Just simply shake the container the rat comes in a couple of times and that will kill it!

I know from experience this does not work.

That would have to be one hard and very large container for the momentum of the rat to strike the side hard enough to kill it.

The pet store gives me the rat in a cardboard box! I give it a couple very hard shakes and the rat is dead! Works for me every feeding!

A couple good flicks to the head will stun them and eventually kill them.

I can't bring myself to feed my BP small live rats, I'm too much of a wuss to kill them. I'll have to try the shaking thing.

So today, I fed him 2 adult mice (which he kills with ease). Big plump males. Boy is he stuffed, should hold him a while.
