help... is it mojave or butter
few months ago i bought a ball python and paid for a female butter morph(see pic below)
    http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...0/DSC_2480.jpg

after she shed today i notice she look like a mojave rather than butter, then i place her next to my male mojave and to my suprise they are almost identical.

my question is ... did a got a mojave or a "low" quality butter or i dont have to worry because she will change color as she gets older?

below are my male mojave and fem "butter"

Looks like a mojave to me...like dead on Mojave. I find that butters are harder for me to distinguish from lessers, but mojaves are easier to pick out from the BEL trio.

that looks nothing like a butter...mojave is more like it, alot of people on kingsnake have been selling these as butters.... sucks.

Looks rather mojoish to me. It could be a very low quality butter but they are a lot lighter looking. May I ask who you got it from you can PM me if you do not want to post it publicly. On the up side its a very pretty snake none the less.

    Hi,

    I agree with everyone else - it's a mojave.

It is however a very nice one.

    Def a mojo.

It's not a big deal, mojos, butters, and lessers are all pretty much the same snake, they all make BELs.

It can be a big deal if he paid a bit more money for something he didn't receive.
They may all make BEL's but the crosses made with either definitely look different.

It is a big deal. One is really dark compared to the other. Both do make BEL but one BEL is brighter than the other. Also Butters tend to cost more.

Its a Mojave without a doubt.

Yeah, to pay butter prices on a mojave especially as an import to the PI is unfortunate. Mojaves don't do to combos what butters do, especially if youre a breeder who prefers making lighter colored morphs.

Unless the breeder bred a butter to a really dark "normal" and got a really dark butter, which is pretty unlikely, that's a mojave.

Id call the breeder ASAP with a complaint.

However, I am rather fond of its look.

Ok so I was trying to compare yours to mine. I was also taking a look at the Nerd site. Keep in mind that I am super super new to this. I got my snake for a super reputable breeder so I have NO DOUBT it is what I was sold.

What I did see is that a butter has light eyes (I know that mine does) while a mohave looks like it has dark eyes. Not sure if this is is across the board. I am sure someone could inform me better.

I've never seen a lesser/butter that is that dark, I would have to say mojave, would like to see you breed it to a known mojave and see if it makes super mojaves or BELs. That would tell you right away 100% what it is.

It looks pretty dark. :( (I don't know if the whole lighter eye thing is true...just something I noticed) I am sure that there are other that can tell better. I also noticed that her dark is black or really dark brown. Mine is much lighter than that. I am really sorry about that. I can tell you in the future....if you do want a butter...I know a breeder that is awesome....and he will not rip you off.

Probably not make you feel any better but she is very very beautiful!!

Crappy Butters are around 450,the better looking ones go for around $500-600.

Also, he does not live in the US, so prices are much more different.

Like I said, Contact the seller, and see how they will fix it.

    Hi,

I would point out to her that, respectfully, the side pattern on mojaves is distinctly different than on lessers and butters as well as the differences in colour.

She sent you a mojave - and, as mentioned, a nice one. It is definately not a low grade butter.

The only way that came from anything butter to a normal would be from a Blue eyed leucistic that was created by a mojave to butter breeding. That way half the offspring would be butters and half mojaves.

Show her pictures of the side patterns of mojaves and lessers/ butters then show her the side patterns of yours.
