Kent Feed? Whats Up

Ok finaly after months of Looking and searching and calling and explaining Bla Bla Bla Bla. I finaly got my first order of Kent 23% Rodent Diet. the ? is they are cubes not normal size lab block. will they still be able to eat it through the 1/4" and 1/2" screen. the 1/2 should be ok but its the mice and soft furs I'm curious about. I put 50/50 in the feeder so i guess we will see. so i guess it wasnt really a ? Just a to answer myself in front of every one. LOL :bonk:

If anyone else uses this feed let me know how you like it. it is the only rat feed i can get here without spending 40 bucks a bag. :confused: they sure like the dog food they were eating. and all the ingrediance in it is in either the Mazuri or the Kent.

1/2 screen works fine with the blocks. 1/4 will work for the asfs but not sure about the big rats. In my rack I just made an insert screen to cover the top where the food doesnt sit on the screen.

How much do you get your 23% for? I have 19% rodent diet from them and get it for 16 a bag

Thanks for the quick reply Matt. the 1/4" is on the soft furs and mice only and 1/2 for the rats so I should be good there. the 23% I get for 13 a bag, and is all I can get. I talked to chuck From the Kent HQ and he told me I prolly couldnt get the 19% because who ever bought it had to by a min. of 80 bags. hopfully the 23% works good and they like it. are your "cubes" alot bigger than reg. lab block? these are about the dia. of a quarter and about 1.5" long. seems like would be hard for them to eat. we will see though.

who did you contact or how did you end up getting it?

I'm using Kent 23% for asf's, but I put it in a 1/2 inch hopper inside the tubs. They eat it just fine. I can't get the 19% here either, and the Mazuri 6f is $60 for a 50# bag. I might get a bag of the Mazuri for the breeders and use the 23% for the grow ups. I'm worried about the fat content in the Kent not being high enough. I loose at least a couple babies every litter and the only thing I can think of is that the moms are running dry and need to thin out the numbers to keep up on milk. Let me know how the Kent goes for you.

hey all. suzuki4life I ended up calling the Kent company at the Muskatine office(not sure how to spell it sorry) ask for Chuck you can get the # online and I will post all the info after work (about 3 oclock). he was very very nice guy and told him ive been looking for about 6months and had talked to a few kent dealers who for some reason really didnt want to help me, he was mad about that. he gave me a name and # of a company who could order the 23% for me. was the Blue Ribbon Feed Co. in Celina. they called and had it here in about a week and a half I ordered 5 bags to start. they were fasinated With what i was doing and was full of questions.

Kristian I wasnt supper happy with the fat contet eather but we also feed table scraps and i feed dog food that i have found to have all the ingediants that are in either the Mazuri or the kent and it runs a fat content of 8% and they all like it so i will keep it available to them also.
I will also get like dog bisquits and throw in every once and a while and they have a good fat content also. so thats an option you could look into if you dont feed table scraps. if you are interested ive got a good comparison of the dog food i use against the Mazuri against the Kent 23%. let me know i could post it tonight if you or anyone else wants to see
it.

I didnt know the only way to get the 19% wa to get an 80 min order. I buy my food from a local bp keeper/breeder that orders i think 150 at a time. So far im happy with 19% never heard of the 23% before though. My lab block are about the same size as you described, maybe a little smaller though. I find that the big rats have an easy time eating and it makes the asf work harder for the food so it reduces waste. I dont see any more dusted food piles anymore.

Matt thats good to hear abot the waste reduction, I actually had a dream that they were dusting the crap out of it.lol :confuzd: not sure why thats all I remember.

kristian I'm going to start typing the comparison up tonight will have to finish tomorrow will take me a while to get it on. we are showing our house in the morn. and was bussy all night. (Dreams of bigger snake and rat rooms in the future). I hope lol

Everyting that is in the Kennel Kruncher (except the meat and bone meal) is in either the kent or mazuri. not sure about the meat and bone meal. they are omnivors (spelling?) so i would think it would be ok. from what i'm seeing so far they are not eating the dog food anymore so it might be kent and table scraps now, and the mice and soft furs are eating the big cubes good though the 1/4" screen ok.

oh yah side note. my rat shed is a day away from 1 weeks cleaning. (i only clean bedding once a week) when i opened the bag of kent it smelled really good and the rack smelled bad. the smell of the kent feed is all you smell now when you walk into the shed:rolleyes: i guess thats not a bad thing. lol

I picked up some Zeigler (1000lbs)...won't last me long but I saved $5 a bag over what the guy hiked my Mazuri rates to..

ya 5 bucks is 5 buck. thats a bag of bedding if you want to look at it that way. just curious how much was the Zeigler, is it pretty good block.

The only dearly the website shows is Easton, Pa 110 miles away from ya everything else is in Ohio 200 miles or more. but maybe Chuck can help you out.

Kent 23% is all i feed my rodents now and they eat less of it being a more fulfilling meal.

I was thinkin that the food bins looked a little more full today. makes sence, how has health and production been flameethrower? normal?

yes nothing has changed at all. Mice are still going like crazy. My rats are bred on a when needed basis.

You said you were getting the Kent for 13 a bag? Is that 50#? Also would like to know on the Zeigler.

Kent is 40lbs bags only

flameethrower my bag are 50lb bags and they are 13.50 final cost out tha door.

40 bag minimum, I split an order...not really crazy about the stuff personally.

wow that would save you quite a bit over the course of a year or more. this stuff was a floor stocked item and could order 1 or 100 didnt matter. so far the stopped eating the dog food so i'm not offering it any more. they seem to really like this 23%.

I'm not going to go off this if i dont have to. spent enough time trying to even get this. lol thats pretty cheap if you ask me.
