BP's and Moth Balls?

I know this is an odd question, does anyone have any idea if Moth balls have an effect on BP's.

They're not real good for humans, and they certainly aren't good for moths, so I'm guessing "not good"!

Some would argue there is no proof for or against but this is one of those things I would personally not try. Mothballs keep bugs & rodents away. If rodents dont like it I dont think a snake would either. Think of how sensitive the snakes sense of smell is. I believe moth balls would drive a snake nuts. I also dont think the fumes would be good for them.

Agreed, the fumes would worry me in an enclosed room constantly around the snakes. Moth balls deterring rodents is a myth by the way. If they worked I wouldn't get so many mouse and squirrel jobs =P

and also snakes only have 1 lung.....so ya gotta be sure to take care of it. ;)

i found a carpet beetle, and i know i am clean, i suspect the guy who lives downstairs form me, and i know moth balls keep the critters away.... thanks guys:gj:

well someone else might be able to tell you better than I...and please everyone speak up if I am doing something bad.

We have our house sprayed every other month. We have dogs and as long as they are not in walking around prior to it drying...it is safe. Now with that being said....I do not allow the rooms that the snakes are in to be sprayed.

Carpet beetle? Is it the very small ones (bed bugs) that bite?? No matter what it is here is one thing you can do to avoid harming your snake. A flea and tick powder or sevin dust (garden bug powder) sprinkled on your carpets. That stuff will get rid od just about anything, Leave it there for at least 24 hours and then vacuume or sweep it all up. Just dont let your snake come in contact with it while its there.

snakes actually have 2 lungs depending on the species of snake they can use both or one will be basicly cut off and not used and others have lungs that stretch most of their body and they use it like a sub uses its ballast tanks

There are many other ways to get rid of Carpet Beetles. First you want to see how they are getting in. This time of year is very strange to see them though. Bird nests in your gutters/window air conditioner units, squirrel nests in your attic, dead mice in attic/crawlspace/wall voids. Also old food laying around sometimes a lost dog biscuit under a couch, or in Springtime if you bring in outside flowers. I doubt you would be getting them from a neighbor though. If you start seeing more than 1 or 2 I would start looking into the things I mentioned because pesticides alone won't help 100%. You will need to eliminate the food source. Carpet Beetles are one of the few insects that can actually digest the protein in hair and fur and you can sustain a whole colony with a dead squirrel or mouse in a wall/attic. Good luck ;)

Most pesticides used by professionals now are very low in mammalian toxicity. With that said reptiles/fish/birds are still very affected by them. So use common sense when the 'bug guy' comes around and maybe skip that room entirely like mentioned above.

Carpet beetles dont bite humans or live animals form what i know, they live off of natural fibers and grains such as cotton, wool etc.

i had them in NYC as our area had many demolitions and rats and mice were abundant, as well as the fact that our area in brooklyn is a landmark area and the houses are very old.
they eat through your most precious clothes, the ones that cost $$$ and it is more than frustrating to go out one night in your 200$ sweater and have a hole in it form a bug when it is less than a month old.

i spent the entire day vacuuming, cleaning, doing what i can and i do not intend to use moth balls due to the responses here which make perfect sense.
