Oh my god! Ewwwwww! The cat!!
I breed 3 types of rodents for my stock and some are in plastic totes and some in glass tanks. The other day I walked past the snake room and glanced in to see the cat sitting there in the middle of the room chewing on something!

I thought.. What the heck is he eating? Did he find something on the floor?

I look closer and see pink.. AAAAHHHHHHHHHH It was a mouse pinky!!!! :puke: :bleh:

The cat knocked the top off one of the glass tanks holding mice and helped himself! The female mouse must have just given birth but there was only 3 pinks in the tank by this time. I have no idea how many he got but I hope to hell he is happy for that once in a lifetime live mouse meal. I cant believe he did that. Ate my feeders! I chased that cat all over the house until we were both wore out for that stunt.

It just so happens that out of all the tanks and tubs THAT one was the only one that didnt have a very secure lid. Well now it is secured and momma number 2 just had babies and the most the cat can do is just stare through the glass and drool :8:

My cat has little interest in the mice besides watching them. My moms cat is one that would try to get into the tanks. Luckily, my cat usually keeps him out of my room.

This is why I have to keep my cats and mice separated. Once I had some mice on the loose and I came home to find two of my cats with mice in their mouths. I didn't have to worry about those mice again. Since the cats were taking their time eating the mice and trying to eat them on my CARPET, I let the ferrets have them. The cat's haven't had a chance to hunt mice since then but I have offered them pinkies before. They don't seem as interested if its not moving around much.

LOL!!! But the cat is very well fed with his natural balance high quality food. I wonder what those poor mice were thinking when he got in the tank with them (3 females 1 male) and started picking babies out one at a time. I wish it had been the rats he went after. At least then it would have been a more fair fight. Those rat mommas bite hard if you go for their babies!

I hate how curious cats are. My cat even tries to attack my F/T rodents when I carry them upstairs! I don't like owning a cat while owning snakes. He's tried to get them numerous times, even my Bearded Dragon. I'm so tired of him getting in my business. I never let him in my room anymore, he's too much of a trouble maker.

Srsly? Cats are predators and eat rodents, wouldnt you expect that?

Crappy the cat snuck some, but ever thought of feeding a prey model raw diet to your kitty? If i raised feeders for snakes id be transitioning all the pets to raw.

If I produced enough feeders I'd be switching the cats to a raw/whole prey diet. They love their raw food when they get it but they haven't had mice in ages. When my mice give birth I might try giving them a pinky mouse or two to see if they will eat them.

My cat paid the mice no attention until one of them chewed their way out of the tub and let 2 other loose. I found this out when I came in the room and found white furry puke. Now she comes in handy if one escapes she has it the second it hits the ground and I can usually get them back unharmed if I am quick about it. I give her an extra mouse or two a couple times a week now, I just feed her in the bathroom so she doesn't make a mess.

My sisters old cat was terrified of her hamster.

It was pretty funny seeing the hamster chase the cat.

I can imagine, I have a pit bull that's terrified of ferrets.

We have three cats and Irene (the one I adopted that hates me) is terrible. If I leave the door open she will sneak into my room while I'm not there because she knows she gets sprayed with water if I catch her messing with my animals.

The door has been kept closed for months now- Sometimes she will swat at my rats. Plus, she's pushed my male cresties cage over 2 times (from the desk to the floor) and opened it once by pouncing on the top.

Poor little guy has several very tiny scars now from it (I think she reached in and pulled him out of the cage). I'm glad he never recieved any real injuries!

My local pet store used to have a store cat that they locked in the bathroom at night because she showed too much interest in the animals, one night they couldn't find her, came in the next morning and she had knocked off the owner's beardie's cage top and killed him, killed several hamsters, rats, gerbils by pulling them through the cages and made a huge mess. She got rehomed after that little stunt. Don't know what they were thinking bringing a cat into the mix to begin with. Oh and they replaced her with a terrier puppy. Can't fix stupid.

Cats are hunters and that's what they have done for thousands of years. I have a cat that is a stinker too. I keep all my mouse cages in a dog run. Otherwise he knocks them around and tries to get to them.

Re: Oh my god! Ewwwwww! The cat!!
Yeah this cat of mine is definately a hunter. NO bug in the house has a chance against him. Last night I seperated out males from female babies in my african tanks and now the cat is even more determined to get some. He has multiple tanks and tubs of babies to stare at all day..

I cant close the door to that room because it is directly across the hall from the furnace and is already the hottest room in the houe. It would be 90 degrees in there if I closed that door. Now I make sure all the rodents are very secure. Im picking up a rident rack this week or next so that will eliminate the cat problem and the multiple tanks and tubs problem :)

I got a cat after seeing one walking around at NERD. I figured if I ever had an escaped rodent the cat would come in handy. She seemed to have no interest in the mice so I put one on the table with the cat. She didn't even bother to get up! I want to make a saddle for her and train a mouse to ride her like a horse.

Gross. :P I accidentally locked my cat in the "mouse room" (aka my bathroom) recently, for the ENTIRE day while I was at work... needless to say, I came home to quite a mess! The cages were upside-down and across the room, and the poor mice were huddled under the food dish for safety. It was a good ad for those cages, though, because both were securely closed - and no dead mice. :gj: Our cats must think we're crazy, keeping tasty food alive in a cage - and feeding them, nonetheless.
