is this an ovulation?

this is my first year breeding...I have a male pastel and a cinny that I have been pairing up with two normal females for the last couple of months...anyhow one has been really puffed up lately and on the 6th I took these pics of her which I believe is an ovulation! it was football shaped swell in her belly and raised almost not touching the bottom of the tub. it has gone back down and now shes curled and has her belly turned upward...I'll try to get some pics of that up later...so what should I expect now? do I stop putting my males in with her? Looks like an ovulation to me, could be building though.


I'd put a male in with her again just to be sure....

looks like one to me. it looks like you caught her right at the start or finish of one. watch her closely the next few hours/days. the real teller will be if she starts to go into shed in a week or so.

thanks everyone!...I check on her several times a day since she's been locking up. I weighed her a month ago and she was 2700 grams...those pics were taken on the 6th..she was locked up with a male 2-3 days prior to that and is locked up again right now.

One trick to tell for sure if it's an ovulation is to check the belly scales right near the vent. They will be sucked in and kind of creased down the center.

update: so it will be two weeks on Wednesday since I took the first pics of the ovulation. it does look like shes going into shed but I doubt it will be Wednesday but who knows....today I checked on her and she was doing this? is it normal?...what should I expect to happen now. thanks!:D

ok so it looks like shes still in shed. her eyes were milky on the 20th which is exactly 2 weeks from my ovulation pics. but still no shed? should I be concerned? did something go wrong?

ok..she finally shed!!!....I'm ecstatic!:D...now just the long wait for eggs!:rolleye2:

You should be getting eggs is about 30 days now. Make sure you have an incubator all set up and running at 89 degrees. She's a pretty big girl so I hope she gives a lot of eggs for you! I should be getting my first ovulation this week. So exiting isn't it?

This is a very exciting time. I think my girl is going into a pre-ovi shed. She has been getting huge, but no football yet. I hope to be in your shoes soon. She has been paired with 2 different Fires.:please:

thanks everyone!..I'm pretty excited...I should be getting all the stuff I need for my incubator by the end of the week. gonna set it up and run it without eggs to make sure my temps are stable and that everything is running fine...thanks for all the help and encouragement:) i'll keep updating this thread to share whats going on...I have another female that looks like shes building...getting a little puffy...this is fun!..good luck with all your breeding projects!

update!...so I woke up to a beautiful clutch of 7 eggs! all look perfect! no slugs!...got them set up in the incubator. the only pics I got where with my cell phone and I don't have service right now...anyhow, I'm pretty excited!..I have one more female that should be going into pre-lay shed next week!...this is fun!:D

update. so today is day 55, I cut the eggs at day 53. one egg went bad. looks like I got 3 pastels and 3 normals...they look amazing! although the pics are bad..I cant help but checking on them every once in a while...I am giving a normal to one of my friends for his b-day he is so excited and grateful!..besides that I don't know if I'm going to be able to part with them...this has been such an amazing experience for me!..and I have another clutch in the incubator! :D
