    Color change?
Getting the Borneo girl to soak is a very easy process. I simply put a pan of water in the tub and in she goes. Taking the pan of water back out is another story. I need to remove the pan of water because over time the humidity goes through the roof. So after about 2 hours of soaking I open the tub to take the pan out and she looks like a different snake. I am floored, her head is not tan it is yellow. I had to ask her, who are you and what did you do with my snake? LOL. So is this something that they do (the color change) or is it because she was not feeling well.

Well I don't have a borneo but I'm sure like all snakes that top layer of skin get more translucent and this could account for the color change. I'm not sure I would soak for two hours. I usually soak my snakes about an hour

Bloods and Short Tails change their head colors as quickly as a few hours. I mainly see mine overnight.

My Bloods head colors go from a nice silver color to a dark jet black color!

I haven't noticed much head color change in my Ghosts though.

No one really knows why it happens, though I speculate it has something to do with trying to absorb more heat by darkening their heads and vice versa.

How warm was the water you put in for her?

86 is about as hot as you want to get it....

I was careful of the temp. It was about 84 degrees. So you think it is a response to temperature?

    I would suspect that, yes.

Though again, no one really knows WHY they do it exactly. The temperature thing is just my most educated guess that is theorized from my personal observations.

    Neat isn't it?

These are truly amazing and beautiful animals. I am defiantly going to keep a closer eye on the color change thing.

Just thought I'd add that with our Sumatran's here, I've actually watched the color change on their heads in a matter of minutes, not hours. I don't even know how many times I've opened the tub to see my male chromehead almost bone white, rushed to get the camera set up to take some pictures, and by the time I actually get to the point of taking a picture his head is a dirty brown.

That is really cool. I was surprised at how much my suriname boa's change colors until I saw my Borneo going into shed. Her entire body is pink now. Has been for a couple days. Her head is a light tan/pink. I didnt think they could get so bright.

Nope. This will be the first shed. They are eating great every week now but no shed and no poop yet lol. The female is so light anyway it really was a shock to look in there the other day and see a pink snake. Havent seen any other color change with them yet but I'll keep an eye out for it. I had no idea these guys could change color.

Just thought I'd post up a few pictures of some Sumatran short-tailed pythons showing how much of a color change these animals can actually go through.

This is our chrome head/light headed male, the following two pictures are of the same snake.

And this is one of our females, after shed and a picture of when she's blue just going into shed. Yes, she really is that blue! :P

Sweeeeeet!:O:O I thought it was just me, but i notices my marble borneo head goes from a dark tan to carmel to a dark brown. I also noticed that she darking up at feed time and lighten up when handle. I think it as something to do with mood change.

I was under the impression that pythons darken/lighten to absorb more light/heat. I know my carpet is much darker in the morning when she is still warming up.
