Re: What Carpet Python ?
Well, what size of snake do you want? How much do you want to pay? Other than that, it's really just the one you like the look of the best! Check out google or flip through the carpet board to see pictures!

Re: What Carpet Python ?
go jungle jag, very pretty and not too big.

Re: What Carpet Python ?
All depends what you like? I have a Jungle and love him but I will be getting a Jag as I love the yellow.

Re: What Carpet Python ?
go for a jj or bredlis.
Believe me, before long you'll be so excited about how much they're growing :D

Re: What Carpet Python ?
Bredli or IJ. But go with which ever one you like the most!
-
Re: What Carpet Python ?
I passed up a Bredli a few months back in San Antonio. I regret it. Then again, I love my Jungles.

Re: What Carpet Python ?
just so you don't get confused about my last post, I DID mean "jj" as in jungle jag. It would be easy to misread as "IJ"
I'll go ahead and throw this out there: Don't leave out coastals or coastal jags for consideration either!

Re: What Carpet Python ?
question. as im in the same boat, what kind of carpet..
i want one that gets big, but not the biggest of course.
as of right now i have a 90 gal tank.. its about 2 ft high.. by 4 ft by 2ft.
i have a BP, (and yes shes fine in it, eats and sheds lol).... but i want to divid the tank.. and get a carpet.. (seen one at my local shop here in wpg and well now i want one)..
but being that its only 4ftish.. do you think turned into 2 ft by 2ft. will suffice for a carpet.. i know i see lots of long tanks that are about 4 ft long.. but only a ft high...
it will have hight as well.. and shelfs i can put in.. but still worried. as what do i need for hut. and something that might double to help it shed.. again i see enclosers that have nothing in them to help them shed.. thank you.

A 2x2 is way to small for a full grown carpet. I just got a JCP male and hes in a 4x2x1 which i feel is just above the minimum for a carpet. A big female coastal might even need a 6x2x1.
As for the original post, i just got a great looking JCP male from Steve at SEK exotics. He has great carpets. He is selling some on fauna right now. He has alot of 09 JCP's and then some diamonds also. But if you have the cash an IJ jag would be awsome. Or a diamond. JCP, diamonds, and jag crosses are my favorite. IJ's are last on my list but i would still love to have a nice one. :D

Re: What Carpet Python ?
Even an average sized adult IJ male (smallest adult carpet) would really need at least a 3x2x1 IMO, if not bigger.

Re: What Carpet Python ?
ya i was going to just divid it for when its small.. and then give the carpet the big 90gal tank thats 4 feet, but just over 2 ft high.... and get a smaller encloser for my BP... but i just wasnt sure i see a few people with average sized carpets in well not so big or long enclosers.

Re: What Carpet Python ?
I don't have any experience with other carpets but I'll just say my JCP is one gangster mofo. He's left me breathless more than once on the live feeds and has never required a vet visit.
I took him once just for the heck of it for a "wellness" check. He crapped all over the floor from the vet's probing fingers. The vet suggested we do a "fecal" since we were in such luck as to have a sudden supply. I said O.K. and, surprise, the tests came back positive for coccidia.
There was much discussion about possible risks and dubious treatment regimens. Given that he had no symptoms we decided to just keep an eye on him. He's been trucking along fine ever since.
Some pets have to be taken care of and some pets carve out a living on their own with a little help from their owners. My JCP is definately one of the latter.

Re: What Carpet Python ?
So, I have to ask... what's wrong with the Irian Jaya? Seems everyone has them last on the list, and I was actually thinking about getting one. Is it just a matter of value (since they're the cheapest), or something we should know about them?

Re: What Carpet Python ?
IJ is at the top of my Carpet list for this year. Aside from the albino that I'll likely *Never* have. And maybe a Jungle Jag.

An IJ is just about the top of my list, too - I like their coloration, and the fact that they don't usually get to be more than 4-6 feet long appeals to me. I keep bouncing between that and a brazilian rainbow boa. IMO the BRB is prettier (I'm a sucker for that crazy iridescence they have), but they hide a lot, whereas the carpet, while perhaps less stunning to look at, will be seen a lot more. I can afford to be wishy-washy about it for now, though, as I don't have the space for another animal at the moment anyway, but once I do, it'll be a tough choice between them.
Personally, I'm not interested in jags or jag crosses, simply because they have a very similar wobble/spin condition to spider ball pythons, and it's just my personal preference not to keep animals that have that type of condition. I don't want to start a debate about it (that's been done to death), but it is something the OP should be aware of if s/he is considering some variety of jag.

Re: What Carpet Python ?
The thing with IJs are they got popular, everyone started producing them and lost a lot of value now...
As for the OP-you can get nice coastal jags for $350-400 shipped right now if you look in the right spot, or wait bc snakes will be hatching soon...I honestly think a jag is worth it, they are awesome.
Also my diamonds are really cool, pretty mellow (crazy feeding response) and stay pretty slender....Then again jungle/jags turn out beautiful, bill stegall has one for sale right now for $650 on kingsnake, looks great..Jungles are awesome, but if you want nice yellow you're going to pay, plus they can be very tricky sometimes getting to eat rats...Coastals and bredli (bredli more) are the most forgiving of the carpets...Diamonds need to be kept a few degrees cooler than the other carpets and hatchlings are going down a little more (u can find them for $500-600 in the right spot)...
Heres a couple pix for reference-
My 08 female coastal jag-I got her Dec of 2008, she was taking rat pinkies (no bigger), and as of today she is on small rats...I've never powerfed her or anything.

and heres my 2007 female diamond, around 6 feet long/2000 grams, eating large rats.

High quality IJ's seem to be pretty rare also, Everyones seen High quailty jungles im sure, but a Bright vibrant orange colored, no speckling IJ will make you jaw drop. tho I've only seen pictures, never in real life.
I own a IJ Jag and shes been alot of fun, the big mystery is how big is she gonna get? shes got genes from the smallest and largest carpet pythons... time will tell.

to the OP i would say if you don't want to break the bank, you can't go wrong with a high yellow jungle, I got this boy for 125 bucks.
