Help not sure if this shed is gonna be a good one!
Its been about 2 days since i noticed his eyes were blue and now his whole head is clear of the old skin but the rest of his body still hasnt shed, Is this normal?

Re: Help not sure if this shed is gonna be a good one!
Once their eyes go clear after being in blue they will usually shed few days later.
Many new ball owners think they shed when they just went back to a somewhat normal color. Give him few more days with some nice humidity and he will shed.

couldnt have said it better myself. just make sure you got good humidity and he\she will shed fine. So far i have been lucky and all my snakes sheds have come off in one piece. I did get a snake that came with an piece of skin still on his eye bumped up the humidity and a day later it fell off.

yeah i figured that but it was kind of strange seeing his head completely free of shed and the rest of his body still remaining the old skin you can literally see where the shedding stopped im about to upload some pics now

Re: Help not sure if this shed is gonna be a good one!
Then thats a Humidity issue. You need to take a wet pillow case toss in the snake, tie off the pillow case, and set back in the cage on warm end for 1 hour.
Should get all of it off while he tries to escape the pillow case.

He needs to be tossed in the pillow case like stated to try and get it off.

Re: Help not sure if this shed is gonna be a good one!
ill give him until tommorow then try the pillowcase method i dont see why humidity is an issue my accurite is giving me a 81% reading

Hes having trouble with this one but hes not going to get that off on his own. So the pillow case will get it off with out a problem. Even with the right humidity some snakes still have issues

Are you sure you are reading the correct number on your accurite? I don't think most of them read that high. I believe everything above 70 or 80 percent is just displayed as "high". I can't imagine a shed like that with 81% humidity!

Re: Help not sure if this shed is gonna be a good one!
I would give it a warm soak for like 30 minutes. Then wipe them down with a towel. Don't try to pull off the shed if it is REALLY stuck, but a good amount should come off with that.
I offer a humid hide and don't have these issues too often.
Or you can spray daily while the snake is in it's shed cycle. :snake:

Re: Help not sure if this shed is gonna be a good one!
I think at this point you just need to spend the time to get the shed off him. It is so shiny looking that I almost wonder if there is more than one layer and loose. ANY significant soaking at this point should leave you with shed falling off. I'm not trying to offend you but are you afraid to handle him? This guy needs to get the shed off. You know how uncomfortable a tight sun burn about to peel is. I always think it has to be about the same for them.

Spraying daily is relative. It totally depends on where you live. If you live in the southern part of florida you have a lot less problem with humidity. If however, you live in the high desert like I do, you'd better be spraying several times a day.
Also assist sheading (pulling off the shed) if done properly is appropriate.

Ha ha true, I AM in Seattle. Personally I have noticed snakes without hides benefit from spraying while in their shed cycle. Everybody has a humid hide now, and I find perfect little snake skin doughnuts when they shed

Re: Help not sure if this shed is gonna be a good one!
When I first got my snake the day after thanksgiving he was going into shed and it was only coming off in flakes. I had to soak him twice and gently rub him down with a damp rag to remove the shed but it all came off and since then he has had no issues shedding him self.

ive had him for about 3 weeks now and im not as comfortable handling him as id like to be (he hisses alot and often gets in striking position) but i know that this is expected, im going to try the soaking method i was wondering should i just use warm water or should i run to petsmart and get this Shed aid stuff i saw just want to make it as easy on him as possible
-
Re: Help not sure if this shed is gonna be a good one!
that shed aid stuff is baloney.
Soaking in water in a tupperware and pillowcase methods are best.
Whatever you do, keep an eye on your snake. There have been people who have tried to "soak" a bp in so much water that the snake had to swim rather than just resting in a small puddle, and the snake got tired and drowned.

tip water in his viv or put in spagnum moss

Re: Help not sure if this shed is gonna be a good one!
Yea don't waste the ca$h on the shed aid stuff. Make sure when you soak, the water only comes half way up the snakes body, so if he's 3 inches thick, put him in an inch 1/2 of water. Use warm water and keep him where you can see him. A good soak and wipe with a towel should work wonders. You can repeat this process tomorrow.
That humidity reading doesn't seem right. Do you have another humidity reader that you can use in his tank to compare? Maybe the one you're using is off?

Re: Help not sure if this shed is gonna be a good one!
my albino was having a bad shed. Soaked him in 85 degree water for 10 mins and most of the skin came off. He was a little testy so tomm he will be given another 10 min warm bath to finish it off. I try to give my bps a at least one soak a week.
