How Much Have You Spent?

Sometimes I look at all my reptiles and their equipment/supplies and go "Wow! Where did I come up with that much cash?" And then to see the value of morphs dropping so fast its amazing what we have paid for our snakes just to see someone the following year buying it for half as much, especially with the bigger breeders that have been in this for a while. Some of our morphs that only cost us $300 were thousands and thousands of dollars to them. So, without taking your tanks, racks, feeding equipment, feeding bill, electricity bill, etc into account, and you only add up what you've paid for your snakes/lizards/amphibians/inverts, how much have you spent on your babies?

I've spent close to $2000 for my herps. I don't have my pastel female anymore but we are trying to get her back from the person we sold her to (big mistake).

Im about in the $400 range so far but I have only just begun!!! lol I imagine with the breeding plans I have that I will be in the thousands for sure

My husband claims I'm going to put us in the poor house. Hahaha. I have plans to spend about $500-600 in snakes in 2010, maybe more if I get a really good job (like the one my husband has). That doesn't even take into account the racks I will need. I'll be spending a minimum of $500 on racks this year. Yep, poor house, here we come!

Looking around the reptile room (so not including the animals that were bought and then later sold), Ive spent $5185 and over half of that was from this year alone.

Too much..for my pocketbook. Prob. close to a grand, which is why I'm trying to produce my own. I'm tired of spending mad money on hets, only to be able to get the visual morph for less than what I paid for my het pair just a few years ago! Hoping to produce some of my own albinos this year, than maybe I can trade them for a few more morphs that I want. Plus, it's so much more fun and rewarding to produce your own....gives you something to be proud of..:D

For just my snakes we've spent about $750. All very much worth it though, wouldn't trade them for the world!

I just turned 19, and have well over 2k In reptiles.
Now my parents.. have well over 2k in one snake.. haha

we've spent only $660 for our herps.

In my lifetime, I've probably spent somewhere around $50k in animals. I wouldn't want to calculate the cost of the food for all of my animals.

Eeking real close to the 50K mark..with rat barn building, 6 bags of rat food a week, building snake room, bla ba bla..

I spent around 10 grand, 9 grand for my wifes new master bathroom i had to give her so that i could get my two snakes.:)

With buying and selling balls, and building a snake rack that I sold, I'm in the positive side. Every time I want to spend money on them I make sure it comes from the same funding.

My friend and I have spent about $950 on snakes so far. We plan to find business investors this summer and spend about $5000 this year.

I feel ya..

When I first got started 5 years ago I had 6 snakes in our office. I was slowly working toward breeding at this point.

Well the ole wifie came and put the ole kibosh on it..her words were before you get another snake you have to renovate the two storage rooms out side to keep them in. :O pfft OK

So we did and now I don't worry about getting new snakes they come in she likes the pretty ones and they go in the snake room. Pretty easy..

Now the rats that's different we had to move them for my sanity. Now we have the rat barn.

I've spent probably in the area of 2 grand, food and supply costs get difficult for me to factor in.

Well just on animals alone (not counting money from animals I've sold) I spent around 12k. With racks and equipment prob another 5k still not including feeders. Lol I enjoy the addiction and the hobby all well worth it :gj:

I believe somewhere around 30,000ish. I would sit and count it up but I don't want to depress myself :O

Ok, now this is not fair. I am older and well, there are soooo many ways to look at this.
What I have spent on animals in my life time. Hard to tell, Lots and lots. What I have spent this year, much easier to tell. But I turned into a business I love, and am proud to boost about. People outside of our circles think I am nuts. People in this world think it is cool. It is our family's full time job. No outside jobs help support us only this, so I take it very seriously.
So when you say what have you spent on animals only not the extras. 28 years, hard to tell. Has it paid off, yes in lots of ways. Friends like you all. Beautiful animals, time well spent.

I have spent around $9,000 with everything about $6,500 just for snakes, $3,000 in one pair.

wish I could afford to spend MORE! :D

In terms of the animals alone, once I pay off the het pied and mojave from Kelly, I'll be up just over $800. Care for them thus far has been remarkably inexpensive. But then again I have FAR from the 100% desired setup.

I've bought all my 12 snakes since October, totaling around $1950. I'll probably make another pickup or 2 in the next few months as well :D
