It's a beautiful sight. Well, it does look kind of boring, but exciting for us right? Better have an incubator ready, or just let the maternal instincts kick in for the big mama. Both will work assuming you keep up your end of the deal. Good luck.

Good idea. I would give them 2 days off and re-introduce. By the way, some sexy locks you have going on there.

    isn't she just gorgeous!?

i got her from a guy who got her from a guy...lol. i believe she originated in the Vancouver, BC area, but really not sure about that.

the unfortunate thing is, this is the first and ONLY lock i've seen from them. i wonder if it's because they were both virgins?

i have put a piece of another male's shed in there hoping to get them going again. and i have popped the spider and he is producing sperm plugs, so maybe the female isn't feeling very frisky.

are there any other tips to encourage more locks?

alright so they locked up December 28th, almost exactly a month ago. but that was the one and only time for them. they've been re-introduced a few times since then, but i haven't witnessed any more locks.

however, i was looking at the Markus Jayne breeding guide today, and recognized the photo of ''Developing Behaviour:''

    http://www.ballpython.ca/images/bree...ter_bowl_b.jpg

that's what Miss Merangue has been doing lately. hugging her dish lazily. my question to you all, what is the timeline on that kind of thing, does the ''Developing Behaviour'' only happen to snakes that have been impregnated, or does that just mean they're coming up on being ''fertile?''

any tips on getting them to lock up again?

Just a thought, and I don't know it all, but consider using paper of some kind (newspaper, butcher paper, paper towels) or cloth towels as a substrate. The male or the female could, hypothetically, get some aspen shreds stuck in their cloaca and irritation could develop.

Maybe I'm all wrong as no one else has said this yet. But that's what I would consider doing and thought it best to share because I care.

Pretty animals you have too. :)

thanks for that tip! i actually don't usually use any sort of substrate for most my snakes, i just haven't changed her over because she's mostly my boyfriends snake, and he likes aspen better. personally i hate the stuff cause it gets EVERYWHERE but whatever, right. i just make him vaccuum every so often haha.

and yes, i have heard that about aspen once or twice but it never came across to me as a huge concern.

I dig aspen shreds for my little ones and for the hognoses, its a cool substrate. And yeah, I gotta vacuum more because of it! ha ha I'm just thinking towards times when the horizontal polka might be going on and they might be a bit more swollen or sensitive... I just wouldn't want anything "stuck there" if you know what I mean... :D

This is my second season. My first lock last year was a pastel x normal. This year is much more exciting with a bee x pastel lock (still in progress). He's still not losing interest after 24 hours. I'd think he'd be dehydrated by now! Congrats on your first!
