    rheostat ?
i got a new rheostat and have the probe under the substrate. when the rheostat is turned down as far as it will go before turning off the temp is still in the high 90's or a lil over 100. inside of her hide its around 92 or 93. she doesnt dig in and get onto the UTH but if she does do u tihnk it will burn her? should i get a better rheostat? or should i just leave it and not worry? thanks

some thermostats have to be set few degrees higher to maintain proper temps inside the tubs. as long as temps stay within 90-94 inside the tub your fine.

i know the zoo med rheostats don't go low enough for snakes. Go figure, you are better going to home depot and making one out of a dimmer switch. I made a few and they cost about 12 dollars each complete. You can drop the temp as low as needed.

I used to have a zoo med rheostat but I also was getting to high readings,I returnd it,bought a dimmer at home depot. for $10 to control the temp...you just have to keep an eye on the temps..("this is good to get you by"until you can buy a GOOD thermostat:like johnson,Ranco.ect.) invest on the good products and in the long run it will be cheaper and safer...;)I'd rather spend it once, and be happy & enjoy the hobby....good luck

what are you using? A rheostat or a thermostat? Rheostats done have probes.

Yes, I would be worried about burns if the glass temp is 100*.

What kind of dimmer is it? If it is a reptile rheostat then chances are it won't go any lower. If it is the home depot kind then you might be moving the switch the wrong way.

    Re: rheostat ?
Just keep the hot spot (right on the glass where the uth is) below 95* and above 90*.

Where did you find it in stores? And why was it $62? The retail price for the 500 is like $25...

    Re: rheostat ?
i found them online for 25 but i didnt want to order it n wait for it to come. i found it at a lil mom n pop store way across the city. and after driving around all day n not finding one i didnt care once i found it. i have two uth's so i hope the air temp will be good enough too. i dont like using a light cuz it kills my humidity.
