Dehydration/humidity
I just got a new ball and she hasnt shed yet she looks dehydrated (her skin wrinkles in her midsection) but i have my humidity at 62% and my day temps are 92 in warm area and 81 in cool area. I have 2 hides one warm and one cool also have to water bowls. my warm side hide has a thermostat regulated UTH pad. Right now i have two thermometers and one hygrometer they are all needle and not digital getting digital tommorow. Is she getting ready to shed? Her eyes are still black. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Re: Dehydration/humidity
Its possible she is getting ready to shed
Your setup sounds FABULOUS for a person new to the forum, but why the two water bowls?

Re: Dehydration/humidity
My humidity drops with only one so i use two to get it up are there other ways i can get it up without two bowls. Also have a fake tree in the middle to help her shed. Also i read that neddle thems and hygros are always a little off is it better to have digital? thanks thegoalie22

Re: Dehydration/humidity
Absolutely better to have a digital! Do not get a digital from the petstore. Those are not much better than dials. Get an Accu-Rite Indoor Outdoor Thermometer Hygrometer from Walmart. It should be 12-15 dollars.

Re: Dehydration/humidity
should i have 2 one for the cool side and one for the warm side and where should i place the probes
-
Re: Dehydration/humidity
No you only need one because it reads 2 temps: 1 with the probe and one with the actual device. So you set the probe directly on the glass over the heat pad and the device on the cool side
What substrate do you use?

Re: Dehydration/humidity
The accurite has one probe that you put in the cage on the glass where the UTH is. Then you stick the rest of the unit on the cool side.
Outdoor temp = hotside
Indoor temp = Coolside

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack but a light went off here.....
Hey, I just bought 2 of those things and never knew that! Ok, so did I set up mine correctly?
I placed the probe for my accurite on the glass over the UTH, and then put the subtrate over that. The UTH is connected to a ReptiTemp 500. So along with the probe for the RT 500, I have a probe for the accurite...is that right?
The the inside reading should read the same as my cool side thermometer?

Re: Dehydration/humidity
does it also have a hygrometer

yeah sounds right. The accurite measures temp and the reptitemp controls the temp.
Yes the accurite also measures humidity.

Are you asking me? If so, yes, mine has a hygrometer too. I struggle with humidity in only one of my cages, even though they are side by side with the same temps....

do you have the whole unit in the enclosure? that is what measures humidity.

Oh, no...no I don't. I keep it on top of the tank. Should I put it inside? I have another smaller accurite thermostat/hygrometer that I have anchored to the center back wall of each cage to measure ambient temps, and then just a plain digial proble for the cool side.
I never thought to put the unit inside the tank....

Re: Dehydration/humidity
Well, if you have something in the tank that is measuring humidity digitally then you are fine.

Re: Dehydration/humidity
Just a quick note. If you dont catch your bp drinking from the water bowl, and still looking wrinkly after getting your setup up to par, try dribbling water over his/her head with a childrens cough syrup syringe, some snakes seem to enjoy this very much, you will know if s/he is drinking when the jaws start moving. I had a chondro who never drank water until i started doing this. Just a thought.
