Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
Its been a long time since I've been on here, I used to spend all my free time on this forum...Now I just feel too sad to look at all the nice snakes. In early Oct I lost my first BP, Lavoux. I was living with someone who doesn't like snakes, and one night they unplugged all her heating stuff. the next day i found her frozenin a ball on her heat mat.
My husband and I had her creamated. After 2 months without her our lives just don't feel the same. If I tell anyone why I feel so upset about loosing her they give me that hole evil stupid snake speach, then I get angry and tell them I should kill thier dog and see how they like it.
I just miss her so much.

I' so sorry to hear about the loss of you precious BP. These are beautiful and amazing creatures, and your sense of loss is valid and very real.
It's frightening to think that some one who called themselves a friend would do anything as devastating and cruel as harm your beloved pet. Hopefully Lavoux's suffering was short and she will always be in your memory.
I don't know if you have any legal recourse where you live, but what your friend did was unthinkable, and I'm glad that you feel comfortable enough to share your story among friends here.
:tears:

My condolences and prayers go out to you. I cannot even imagine losing my Seth.
How warm is your house? Bp's shouldnt die in even 36 hours in the 60's.
That person does not sound like a friend. I would consider taking legal action.

Sad story, I hate when I lose any of my animals, but to lose one like that has to be tough... When the time is right you will get back in the hobby where you belong

Re: Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
That is such a terrible shame. With friends like that who needs enemies?
How cold did it get in her room to kill her that way? That just seems unreal.
I hope that as time heals your heart, you may yet find room in it for a new baby to love.

RIP. I'm sorry. If someone did that to mine I would slap the (insert unnecessary word here) out of them. Sorry.

Re: Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
Oh yes somebody would pay if that happened to me. "Oh I'm sorry if your car died, did i accidentally unplug every hose and electrical wire?"
I'm very sorry for your loss and no joke or mean anecdote is going to bring your buddy back, just know that we all understand and think the same way you do.

Re: Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
First, I'm am so, so terribly sorry about you losing your precious. All of us at BP.net are feeling for you, and I hope this Christmas doesn't turn out to be a bummer. Just surround yourselves with loved ones. It will all look up soon, and I hope you somehow find justice for little Lavoux.
Second, that disgusts me, but doesn't appall me. I have seen and experienced people like that. Not to sound full of myself, or psychotic, but if anyone tried, or succeeded, in doing such a thing to my animals, someone WOULD get hurt. And it wouldn't be me.
Nothing angers me more than abusing or killing animals for personal gain. This brings me back to a video I saw of a bull in Spain whose horns were lit on fire for sport.

Re: Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
Oye...oh my goodness...that is just horrible and I am sorry for your loss! Both the snake and the reality of who your "friend" really is. Both are terribly hard. I am sure you tend to question your ability to choose friends when one does something like this. Let me assure you there are lots of well disguised horrible ppl out there that we all do not figure out until something bad happens. (clearly been there sister!)
Again I cannot even imagine how you feel about the loss of your snake....I am so sorry!!

Whatever you do, don't kill the dog though. Get yourself a new leeetle guy and you'll feel a whole lot better.:gj:
ps. By the way...it's "losing"....not "loosing". It just a pet peeve of Big Gunns.;):D

Re: Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
Very sorry to hear about Lavoux. Unfortunetly I have a horrible temper so if I was in your shoes I would have lost my snake and been in trouble with the law

Re: Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
That's terrible! That so called friend could have at least been a stand up person and said they didn't like snakes and maybe just moved out or something. Instead, they did it the coward's way! It's almost the equivalent to someone cheating on their spouse when they're having marital problems instead of trying to work it out instead.

Big Gunns only cares about the word "lose". Like he said, it's a pet peeve of his. It also must be the most incorrectly spelled word in the English language and BG thinks he knows why. Nobody can spell for squatoosh, and spell check won't catch it when you spell it "loose" since that is a word. Also, it does look right.
BG could care less about every other word. Well....if you spell "GREAT"..."AWESOME"...or "MAGNIFICENT" wrong when referring to BG, he might correct you.;):D

sorry about your loss.. but, 'm kinda confused.. how cold is your place that it would die of being frozen over 1 night? like, i'm pretty sure they're not that fragile and will just die like that?

Re: Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
im sorry to hear about your loss, very sorry, as if i could sit an imagine myself without my babies i would probably cry.
that being said, i have no clue how you still speak to any of these people.
your talking about somebody who put all other people and living things feelings aside to destroy a living creature.
for your sake, i truly hope you do not speak to them anymore, if you do... i would have to question your level of respect for yourself and your belongings.
what is this speech about evil snakes?
what people do you have in your life around you?
do you live in the dark ages, or are the people around you so ignorant that they could kill an innocent little snake?
im one of those people, slap me once, shame on me, slap me twice, well in the words of G.W.B, "slap me once, you cant slap me again" but seriously, why and how are these people still in your life?

Re: Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
Wow, that is terrible. I'm so sorry for your lose! If that happened to me, I would definitely try to take legal action or at least move out if he/she wouldn't.

Re: Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
The only reason I was living with them is they are my in-laws....I don't speek to them any more. They would not allow her in the main house, only the garage... so I set up a corner with a heater, and her mat, but in South Dakota, there is always a possibility of it dropping below freezing over night. I know I should have double checked her before I went to bed...I had her out and was trying to get a real friend over his fear, he even held her. Lavoux was just so good at helping to dispell that fear in the people who realy care about us. Everyone in my husband's family hates, just hates period.
I did call to the humane society, they said nothing they could do, and nothing the law could do...its their house.
Yes living here is like living in the dark ages, Its not just my in-laws that act that way....anyone I talk to has that "those things are evil" mentality.
I live in a small town... run by the church... In a few days I am moving up to the nearest city, its 50 mi away, but they have my favorite little pet shop, and they have vets there that do care for exotics.
I'm out of a job rite now, as is my husband... we hope this move will find us better work, and better people.
I just want to say thank you to all of you. I know one day i'll have a new little buddy, but they will never be quite like her, she was so anti-ball it was funny. I did all that research to see what they where like, and she blew me away. always broke the mold so to say.
My little girl picked her out. She was the smallest one at the shop. We asked to hold her, and we where sold... that sweet little face, her head was no bigger than my thumb, she was a little twig.... always ate anything i gave her, never fussed, she would come out of her hide when I was spot cleaning and slither up my arm.
She would always sit up on my shoulders, with her tail wrapped around my hair tie, then she would push my glasses off with her nose. never once balled up on us.
Lavoux was the best ever.

Re: Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
Look to see if there are any animal cruelty statues in your city/state. Have they admitted to it? Might be hard to prove.
I'm very sorry your snake suffered and you suffered her loss. :(

Wow, I can't even find the words to say how deeply sorry I am to hear this. I truly do not understand how people can be so cruel. Those are NO friends at all, you need to seperate yourself from them and I would honestly make them buy you another one, after all the money you have probably put into your pet. I am the type of person who is nice to everyone, but if ANYONE or ANYTHING threatened harm on, or did go through with hurting one of my snakes there would be BIG problems. I have threatened people who said they would kill my snakes. But definatly get rid of those people, seriously. That disgusts me, and I agree with whoever said to get legal action. That is animal abuse.
Once agian, I am very sorry for your loss. Everyone on here will support you every step of the way.

Hi Jamie Lynn, I am so sorry to have had to read this thread! People can be so ignorant and cold these days! With that said, are you still around these ppl or still live with them or let them live there whichever the case may be? If not I would gladly love to help you out since I know how much I would miss my snakes if something happened to them. If you would like, I can offer you a normal 09 female if you can just cover the shipping cost. Provided that these ppl/person is no longer in your life so to speak or able to get to her.

Re: Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
Ach, that's just terrible... my condolences. I know just how cold winters can be (I lived in the Rockys in north Montana for 8 years) so it is no wonder she froze :(. I'm so sorry.
It is a shame that your inlaws will probably never think (or if they did, admit) that they did anything wrong.

If that were me...
Umm.. I just won't say what I would do :)

Re: Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
Statutes, not statues. :/
Unfortunately, South Dakota is one of only 6 states in the US that does not make animal cruelty a felony. Punishable by up to $1000 fine, here's the text:
Cruelty to animals is defined as: “mistreatment, torture, or cruelty of an animal is any act or omission whereby unnecessary, unjustifiable, or unreasonable physical pain or suffering is caused, permitted, or allowed to continue including acts of mutilation.” Inhumane treatment is defined as: “any act of mistreatment, torture, cruelty, neglect, abandonment, mutilation, or inhumane slaughter.” Poisoning, intentionally killing and inhumane treatment of an animal are all Class 1 Misdemeanors, with a fine up to $1000 and/or imprisonment up to 1 year. Exceptions are made for generally accepted proctices of training, use of animal, animal husbandry, farming, hunting, protection of life, limb or property, research and veterinary care.

It doesn't cost anything to file a complaint with the police and cooperate when they follow up with an investigation.

Re: Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
Your humane society gave you way bad advice. Here are the codes that cover it. Specifically look at code 40-1-21.

Re: Didn't know where to post, but here it is...RIP Lavoux
Also call or write the Humane Society. Try to talk to someone higher up. Tell them someone there told you it was okay for people to engage in cruelty to animals. If I were you, I'd be screaming at people.
