    What should I get?
So I just got two new boaphile 421D's - http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...d.php?t=108894

    http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/9480/pc190079.th.jpg

I have my 0.1 07 ball python in the one, she's 4 feet.

And I got such a good price I had to buy the other one.

The person I bought the cages from also breeds snakes. Said he had over 50, and that he has a male RTB that he thinks is 100% het for albino (even though I won't be breeding it).

Said he will take $75 because he didn't breed it and friend of his did.

So what are some suggestions for snakes that will go in this cage as adults?

I was thinking of getting the RTB.

    UPDATE:

Got him to do $50 for him.

Sept 09 Male Colombian RTB (het for albino)

    In shed right now.

I have a smaller glass tank that I used for my ball that I'm going to put him in for now.

Can't I get or make a divider for my 421D and let him have more of the cage as he gets older? On the boaphile site it looks like the only dividers they have is for cages that have been expanded.

Can someone maybe point me in the right direction for buying the right divider or possibly making one myself?

RTB? They get decently large, require much more food than a ball python and IMHO are in a flooded market. So if you get it and don't like it or have trouble affording it...you will have a hard time finding it a new home.

Boas are normally mellow...stay under 10' and a 8+ sq ft cage will house them easily.

They do not require much more food than balls My adult RTB's eat one large, or extra large / colossal, rat every two to three weeks. Ball pythons eat every week. Male RTB stay fairly small, and could be comfortably kept in a three to four foot cage. I also disagree that boas have flooded the market. If anything has flooded the market, it is ball pythons. Seeing how normal boas are still sold for $50 when ball pythons are sold for $5.

My boas ate rats/rabbits every 10 days.

Boas that last year sold for $200 at shows like Hamburg now sell for less than $50.

Then, of course, there is the difference in requirements of space.

Boas usually have a great feeding response and will basically eat whenever you feed them. However they have a slower metabolism and should not be fed as often as BP's. Especially as adults. It is possible to have a "fat" boa, which doesn't do anything good to their health. If you are used to BP's just watch how much you feed.

I wanted a RTB over a year ago, and did plenty research then so I do not plan on getting rid of it. Even if I did there's a lot of post on craigslist for WTB RTB.

Snakelady- Isn't a good rule of thumb for RTB is to feed them pretty much after they poop?

    Thanks for the replys.

    So what about the divider?

Everything is dropping in prices. Have you seen how much certain ball morphs have dropped in the past two years? You should be able to pick a pied up next year for 500

balls dropped before the economy took a dive. Normal balls were already cheap. with the numerous attempts at snake bans and restrictions on large species...I don't foresee boas prices recovering.

no need to divide the cage unless you plan to house 2 snakes in it.

I was thinking a 4x2x1 cage is a little big for hatching no?

And putting a divider up would make it not so big for the little fella.

lol about the whole balls droping thing.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just put in several hides and I am sure the little fella will be fine. We have our 6' male BCI in a 4' x 2' AP cage and he loves it.

One thing I would caution... if your cage has the light mounted to the top, there is often a hold drilled to allow passage of the lights electric cord. My female Hog Island boa figured out a way to push the light off of its screws and then went out through the hole in the top of the cage. I found her as I was scrubbing rodent cages on the other side of the herp room-- she was clinging to the back of the rodent shelves, in full hunting mode. I almost peed my pants! :O

    Re: What should I get?
Honestly he should be fine in the 4x2x1 even as a baby, just throw some hides in there for him. As a male he might not even break 5 feet so that cage should be good for his lifetime. IMO a male BCI that isn't overfed won't eat any more food or be any harder to care for than a BP and stay a similar size to a female BP as well. You can feed a 5ft male a single large/jumbo rat once a month and he'll be totally fine. Feeding a rabbit every 10 days...yeesh that is going to be a big BCI haha.

I also lol'd at the "balls dropping" statement.
