Where did you get your dinkers?
I'm curious as to where everyone has gotten their dinkers. I know there are several people on here that have gotten them as imports. JnJ used to have a really good "odd ball" page that I really enjoyed looking at, but since they changed around their business (maybe branched off from a larger one?) they don't have all the odd balls anymore. :(
Any good sites to look at them? They don't have to be clean or reputable per-say, I just like to look at the pictures.
Re: Where did you get your dinkers?
Dinks are us....they have stores nationwide.;):D
You can usually find many people selling them on Kingsnake. Find any BP importer, they'll have the most of them.:gj:

I'll have to google DinksRus, thanks BG
I'll have to look on kingsnake, I've heard there are some on there. I'll just have to look harder I suppose.

Nearly every importer will sort through all of the ball pythons that come in and set a few unusual or interesting looking ones aside to sell at a higher price as 'specials'. I got some years ago from Ben Siegel, they all turned out to be normals so far, but at least they're cool looking normals. Well worth the price in my opinion.

That's too bad they are all normals so far. I would definitely pay more for a cool looking normal! Thanks for the info!
Re: Where did you get your dinkers?
Do importers not keep the ones they think are new morphs?
Re: Where did you get your dinkers?
David Fernandez gets some beautiful dinkers, and advertises them on KS (or is it Fauna?). I was recently talking with him about a striped male, but just decided I can't afford it right now... you should do a search for him on the classified sites!

Not unless they're really super duper extra special. Importers get a LOT of interesting stuff coming in and there just isn't enough time to dink with everything.

Awesome thanks!

Breeders who import will usually bring quite a few more animals in than they personally want or need in order to subsidize their more interesting acquisitions. We've got a couple guys here who I look for at local shows to see what they've brought on their most recent trips overseas, and from whom I've picked up a number of interesting dinkers.
Re: Where did you get your dinkers?
I've gotten to go thur crates of CH imports and that is where I found my dinkers.
And I also found a few online with people.
Re: Where did you get your dinkers?
I've actually found some at pet stores. I used to stop in regular for a look but haven't looked as much lately or found anything when I did. Now that proven morphs are reasonable it takes away some of the impetus to mess with dinkers.
This girl was at Reptile Haven in Denver in 2001. Seems like she was about $120 but so long ago I don't remember for sure. She took forever to start laying eggs but proved some type of dominant in 2007. Have a shot at a super through a breeding loan this year.

This one I got at Animal Attraction in Greeley CO in 2004 for one of my hatchlings and $10. Unfortunately I initially mis sexed and spent 5 years trying to get up to female breeding weight only to recently figure out from behavior that this is a male. Finally have him locked up with a female this winter.

This one I paid big bucks for in 2003 from a collector. It was reported to be an import that came in looking black and white. I've since learned a little more about captive bred animals that start out normal and suddenly change to look like she did when I bought her and eventually like this. She stopped eating right about breeding size but I finally got babies this year including a very nice looking faded male pastel I'm trying to breed back to her this year.

She is probably the least likely to prove of the two unproven dinkers. Just a guess based on her looking like the IMG's that have thus far not proved and my having paid thousands for her. I'm thinking the $10 male above might be a fire, would have been nice if I had sexed him right and bred him 4 years ago when fires where still big bucks.
Re: Where did you get your dinkers?
David Fernandez has some beautiful CH specials each season.
I've gotten several very nice dinkers, as well as a CH axanthic and albino from him. Great guy to do business with, to boot.

Re: Where did you get your dinkers?
The one male I am dinking around with came to me as a rescue. But always felt there was something with him. Everything on him is so specific that I want to try and prove him out.
I have another normal female that has several markers that on one snake would not mean much, but she passes them on to all her offspring, so one of these days I plan on breeding one of her sons back to her just to see.
The rest were just random. Several reduced females that I hope may be genetic, almost all were CH girls that came to me as recommendations. Once you know enough breeders that also import they tend to contact if they know there are certain traits you like or traits you breed for selectively.
