ipod or iphone?
situation #1: i have the 1st generation 30GB video ipod(when it first came out 3 years ago for christmas) and i finally decided that i need a new ipod and im considering the 32GB ipod touch.
situation #2: i NEED a new phone. i swear, the only reason i havent smashed this thing to bits it's cuz it's my only phone. It's a DUO phone from Pantech, i should've read the reviews first so i could've realized it was trash. the reason i hate it is because for some reason it stopped letting me delete stuff after some time. i have texts from january that it will not let me delete. i clean out my inbox and outbox and as soon as i turn my phone off and then back on, they all come back so there's no point. i cant see my missed calls since it can no longer store data so if i get a missed call, i have to call people to see who it was. i cant even set my phone to vibrate or silent so i have to turn it off whenever im at work. my gf already told me she's gonna get me an iphone 3G($100) in january and my first thought was that i can use it as an ipod as well so i dont have to get a new ipod. of course my first concern is, will the iphone have enough memory for all my music(over 8GBs)? i saw that the 16GB is $150 right now so i could simply pay the extra $50 and the tax but that's for "new and qualified" customers so i dont know if im one of those "qualified" customers yet. another concern is, idk how fast the battery will drain if listen to my music on the iphone resulting me in charging the battery on a regular/daily basis.

bottom line, should i just get the iphone with more memory and see how it goes with the battery and other things, or should i just get the regular iphone and also get an ipod touch to separate my phone stuff from my music?

Re: ipod or iphone?
I haven't done a lot of research on the subject but I did encounter one annoying thing with regards to the iPhone. I have an iPod hook up to my Alpine headunit in the car and it won't charge my iPhone. For that reason it's good that I have an iPod that is separate for music. Maybe there are updated cables, I don't know, nor do I care to look as it gives my iPod a purpose. I got the iPhone because it's the best cell phone to me. Keep in mind too that I hate Apple computers, but they do MP3 players and cell phones really well.

Re: ipod or iphone?
yeah im pretty sure the cables for an ipod and iphone are different.

Re: ipod or iphone?
On the Iphone, the actually media player is seperate from the rest of your phone. I have all my music on it and find it kind of convenient because if I ever just want to listen to music, it's always on my phone and I can just put some headphones in and listen.
I was the same way where I wanted to have a phone and an ipod, which I did, then I bought the iphone and realized how ridiculous it was for me to think about having to separate things to carry rather then have it all in one.
I dunno, I prefer just having the iphone myself.
Cheers

Re: ipod or iphone?
If you have an Iphone then having an Ipod is redundant. I have a 16gb first generation Iphone and hope Santa will bring me a new Iphone 3g for Christmas. (don’t really need the 3gs the sales man said that unless I watched a lot of movies I would not need it.)

Re: ipod or iphone?
I would say buy an iphone and an ipod because if you use an iphone for music or video the battery will consume in a phew hours,or buy an ipod and a alternative to iphone.what would use your phone manly for

Re: ipod or iphone?
You could use the iPhone for both, but I would have a car charger just in case. And the cables for some iPods will work on it, I've had to use them on mine before.

My husband and I both have IPhones. He has the 3G and uses his phone for more crap than I do and only charges it at night and has never run out of power (trust me he hates when I forget to charge it). I think as long as you remember to put it on the charge at night you should be ok. Remember with Iphone you do not have to attach it to your computer to charge it comes with the adapter that plugs into the wall. We only put it on the Computer to update/charge about once a month unless we hear about a new update.

for the most part i would use it to talk, text message, internet and any apps that interest me. if i put all my music on there then i'll be using it as an ipod when im at work or when im bored.

No, it will. But it will take a lot to fill 8 gig. I'm just saying the ipod is a seperate application on the phone, you actually have to open it, so it's not like you have an mp3 player with phone capabilities, it's the opposite!

X 50!!! lol
I have actually started to use my Droid for music more than my iPod, it sounds much better. It really doesn't kill the battery too much. Oh, I know it's a totally different phone (and network) but the theory is similar. I find it easier to use one device instead of two. My friend who sits next to me at work uses her AT&T phone (not iPhone) and iPod touch separately though...it's just whatever you find works best for you.

Re: ipod or iphone?
I feel your pain with the duo, I had one and it was the worst phone i've ever had. I had all the same problems as you plus freezing, and super slow operation.
I finally just bought a new phone and took out my anger on the stupid duo lol.
I would go with just an iphone, theres no point in spending the extra on an ipod touch too.

Re: ipod or iphone?
Me and my wife both just got an iphone 16gb 3gs. I also have a 5th generation 30gb ipod video. What I did was put a play list of the songs I really like on my iphone and a few of the videos I really like on there too for when I don't have my ipod (I don't take my ipod every where but I do take my phone everywhere. If I am going to be listening to a lot of music or going to the gym or whatever I use my ipod to save the battery and the ware and tear on my iphone. So I personally still use both...

Re: ipod or iphone?
well, i have 4 iPod's (2 video) and the absolute original iPod ever released.
that being said, i only use my iphone these days.
one person said something about how they cant charge the phone while plugging into their alpine unit?
i use a griffin charger, and i have an auxiliary audio input i plug my phone into.
i prefer to only use it this way, as while i am driving if i am listening to my ipod (phone functions as both for those who dont know) and when a call comes in, the music fades, and the ringtone comes on.
i then press answer, and i have a hands free device, as the phone mic picks up my audio, and the other end i hear through my car stereo.
i have about 600$ in credits at the apple store, i thought long and hard about getting the 32gb touch, i just dont see the point.
good luck, hope

Re: ipod or iphone?
Get an Ipod and an Iphone.
I have an Iphone and a 160GB Ipod. No reason to put music on the phone, and as stated, it will drain the batter a bit faster.
With normal use, I get about two full days out of each charge, so if you use it as your media player, that will most defiantly mean charging every night if not more often.

Re: ipod or iphone?
It just makes more sense saves more money IMO to just get the upgraded iPhone. I'm not much of an iPod/iPhone person so I probably should stay out. I'm getting the Nokia N900 for Xmas so I'll hopefully enjoy that.

Re: ipod or iphone?
for all those who say using the iphone as an ipod will drain the battery?.....
its been 16 months ive been doing this, tip to conserve battery life, keep your wifi off at all times unless you really need it.
aside from that measure, using the phone as a music player has not effected the battery in the same way i thought it would as people have mentioned.
thought i would add this info :gj:
