my bp rescues tongue is yellowish and not flicking. any suggestions are appreciated...
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
Have you had a fecal done on him/her yet? Could be anemic if infested with blood-sucking parasites...either way, a vet visit would be in order!
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
what can i do til i get her to a vet next week?
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
Keep temps and humidity up.
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
ok, what looked to be the tongue has fallen off and her mouth looks perfect and she seems very happy. what the heck could be going on here?
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
Sooo..... Her tongure fell off and now she is very happy.....
Im going to have to try that.
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
The tongue fell off? I don't really see how that's possible.. What's your setup like including temps & humidity?
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
Maybe she had a piece of substrate in her mount and it looked like her tongue. Just a thought. Seems like the most logical explanation to me.
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
The op never said the tongue fell off. They said the yellow thing that appeared to be the tongue fell off. It was probably a bit of aspen that got into the mouth.

thank you my friend :) my tanks are perfect. she's a rescue. it "appeared" to be her tongue because the first sign was a small yellowish thing coming from her tongue hole and each day it came out further til it fell out. she really does seem relieved "happy". i will watch and pray for her to flick it soon but ive read that snakes do ok if in fact it was her tongue...

Well, there went my attempt at humor..
Was actually expecting more of a laugh instead of a correction.
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
Huh! How 'bout that! :) Maybe a bit of retained shed? Or, like someone said, a piece of substrate? Glad to hear she's doing okay!

when you say a bit of retained shed do you mean it could be an outer shell of the tongue? because thats what it looks like. kind of hollowish. shes still not flicking but maybe it will take awhile if its still there...
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
I'm thinking a shed more around the "lip" area as I don't think they actually shed the outer layer of their tongue/inside of their mouth?? But I could be wrong! Although a traumatic injury could cause any tissue to slough...have you got any kind of history on her? What she usually eats/habitat/etc.? Will she let you open her mouth to take a look?

thats what i meant as far as a shell. sloughed tissue. the kid i took her from was keeping her in an unheated plastic critter cage and she was dehydrated badly. he was feeding her live mice. ive been opening her mouth every night and now with whatever it was gone it looks really healthy but cant see the tongue yet...
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
Also some viruses and fungal infections cause oral plaques. Took a nice hunker of one out of a lesser's mouth a few weeks ago. Hope this new girl is in quarantine!
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
You'll see it when you feed :)
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
will let her destress for a bit then try to feed...
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
Post a pic of it...
When was she last fed? Maybe a regurged rat tail? I don't know?

the kid i rescued her from was useless. i suppose it might have been a regurge but how would it make its way into her tongue hole? it is definitely perplexing. its too small to photo with my cheap camera. it does appear to have a very and i mean very slight fork appearance to it when i shine a flashlight from the other side so i can kind of see through it.
Re: my bp rescues tongue is yellowish
well shes eaten twice since and tonight she was flicking a somewhat short but perfect forked tongue :)
