New Baby Black

This little boy arrived yesterday, and I'm in love :D. I've been wanting one for a couple years now, and when I saw this guy I jumped on him. I adore his markings, and I'm excited to see how he develops over the years.

No offense intended, but black bloods are the only ones I'd ever consider owning. Please, keep the pics flowing as this little one grows.

I love all of the three species, but blacks are my favorite, too. (With the exception of the goldeneye mutation in reds... Need one of those eventually when the price comes down enough.) I'll gladly post updates as he grows. :)

Haha thanks sooo much Jordan! I can't wait until he's adjusted and I can actually start handling him. I got impatient yesterday and took him out for a bit... Ended up getting musked on lol. Svid (I named him Svidrigailov, book reference) definitely needs more calm alone time. :)

Cool name....Im very surprised he musked....they were all angels I swear. He is probably just a little stressed. He will be back to not having a care in the world soon....

Oh he's totally sweet, no doubt! He has made no attempt to get in a striking position, hiss, or anything. He just seemed to get spooked for a moment.

I've never seen a black blood - very nice!

That is a beautiful snake. I'd like to get into bloods at some point.

I used to always think ball pythons looked like little leeches. Then one day I saw the king of leech looking snakes... the blood! LOL

Now I am growing a little fond of them, and your animal is a beautiful example. :sweeet:

LOL The things moms say about our critters. I usually get no more than a roll of the eyes and a sigh!

Thought of any names yet? Perhaps Cornholio? Since he's drawn such a comic response from your mom and he's docile, maybe a silly or light-hearted name is in store for him. :)

I've already named him Svidrigailov, or Svid for short. It's after a character in Fyodor Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment. Not really the most light hearted name, but it is silly in its geekiness. :)

I like Svid, do you say both leading consonants together? It suits him, sounds and looks good!

Yep the S and V are said together! Svidrigailov is a character that committed several murders (among other crimes), was absolutely remorseless, and lived only for his own happiness. However, he knew how to act like a perfect gentlemen when he had to ;). Seems to fit, at least well enough lol.

Now that he's eaten and seems to be comfortable, I decided he was ready for another photo shoot~. He still looks the same of course, but I was able to spend time on this set. In the first pictures I was just snapping some quick pictures so I could get him into his tub and leave him alone. You can tell they were rushed because I missed the focus on every single shot! :D I believe these are better, and figured they were worth posting if only for that reason.

What a cutie. I love their eyes. I was looking at a red blood yesterday, and he almost came home with me there and then! The black blood is really cool!

The eyes of blacks get better with age! C: If you like bloods you should definitely look into them more. They are awesome snakes!
