    What morph to buy?
Right know I feel like a person with no taste. I mean everybody likes some morphs and not other morphs but I can't decide which morph should be my first. I don't want a combo just a basic. I'll get whatever you guys decide.:rolleye2:

pastel or spider very simple and affordable morphs and always a great addition to a collection since they can cross with alot and make many morphs

I would go for a 0.1 ghost - she will become an asset for you in some years. All of the offspring is guranteed to be 100% het-ghost.

Imagine breeding her with 1.0 lesserpastel or 1.0 albinospider - great potential.

Lesser's are dropping in price, its a good time to take advantage of it. A male lesser and a female normal or spider, the possibilities are astounding. You can get lesserbees, normal lessers, BELs, and maybe more.

I voted lesser because of the blue eyed lucy.

First to vote black pastel. I like the darker snakes (and clean, not busy ones) and like the solid super color. My second choice would be a mojave which there are no votes. Blue Eyed Lucy?

How could there be any answer but Albino? Well, since you didn't list Piebald, Albino is my choice.

Buy the one you like the most, don't listen to us bozos.;) BG will say this though, if you plan on selling any babies, BG always tells newbies to buy a co-dom/dom. It's impossible for a newbie to sells hets, and it's a lot more exciting to see a morph out the egg than a het.

Agreed. I had a heck of a time selling stuff last year, this year will be much better hopefully.

I say spider because they are inexpensive and they make some pretty wicked designer morphs.

The only reason BG thinks this is a bad idea is the spinning they do. This usually freaks out a newbie.

Well because I'm not even in high school yet and I don't have $1,500 to spend on a pie but I would if I did;):D

Pastels are pretty, but I have run into some mean ones, so be prepared for that. Spiders are so laid back, and albinos are good. I would make a deal for one of each. LOL

Buy the albino, because that is what you will be able to show off to your friends, they wont tell the difference from a pastel, or a lesser.

Pieds arent 1500 anymore, you can get a nice one on Kingsnake for $800 unfortunately,

    Good Luck

    Re: What morph to buy?
If you can visit a reptile show or try to find a somewhat local breeder set up a snake date and visit em.... It is so much easier to pick an animal that you will like the best in person...I have 7 balls bought all but 2 in person I like the 2 that were ordered but not as happy with them as the ones i picked up in person you can pick pretty and personality that way.... Plus get to know who you are getting your baby from.

Yeah, I'm going to the Austin reptile show to see if I can find somthing that I like because there aren't any breeders that I know of here in san Antonio (except VPI, which is not open to the public).

Man in a place as big as San Antonio you should be able to find quite a few smaller breeders that are usually easier to contact, but @ austin show you should be able to find quite a few smaller breeders probably some local to you at the show. On that not if you see something you really like at the show, buy it then it wont be back when you come back I learned this the hard way @ phoenix show

I say throw go for what you personally like the best...that's the best way to ensure you'll enjoy working with them, and that's the only way you'll be successful (can't succeed if it doesn't hold your interest!).

However, given the choices you posted...

I would say throw out the poll and pick your own snake, but I'm with the majority on this one. lol - I'd go with a Butter or Lesser.

They're pretty much the same morph, although the butter gene may be a shade lighter. Apparently more people know what Lessers are since they got so much more of a vote. lol

Either way...butter/lessers go great with everything and the super is also one of the best leucistics. They're awesome on their own, but if you later decide you want to have lots of morphs and combos, I don't think you'll be sorry for choosing the butter/lesser.

I'm personally on a big Super Vanilla and Vanilla combo kick right now, but that's because I already have the butters and lessers.

    Butters produced here this year...

    Lesser x "Unknown"
From lesser x YB breeding. The breeder didn't seem to think they were YB's, but I think they may be. There was a non Lesser version with the same aberrant pattern in the clutch...who knows.

Make sure you can afford a proper set up for your snake before you worry about getting one, and have a plan to be able to pay for a vet visit should any issues crop up.

    Re: What morph to buy?
I would say just wait and see what you like at the show. At some point you're bound to see an animal that you're like "who I want that" and then it's easy. My first morph was a spider and there are alot of cool combos with them but if you just want one for the wow factor get an albino (I think someone already suggested this). Albinos are cool because it one of the more basic morphs that anyone can look at and know what it is. If I tell someone I have an Orange Ghost Ball Python they'd be like, What??? But if you say you have an albino, everyone will know what that means.

Ohh yes I have savings for vets and I already have every thing set up just not a very big income. It would take me 7 months to save up for a piedball without taking out any for retirement and colle:(ge

    Re: What morph to buy?
Start with a cheaper recessive morph like an albino or ghost. You will not see results quickly like co-doms or doms but it will pay off in the long run. Remember anything you breed it to will be at least 100% heterozygous for wahtever morph you have. :)

    Re: What morph to buy?
I voted lesser because of all the possibilities. But a spider or pastel would be a great starter morph. I will probably be getting one of these morphs as my next BP.

    Re: What morph to buy?
I vote for lesser because their a personal favourite, but butters look very similar. Really though, it depends on how much money you have, what you want to do with it, and what you like. I adore brown and cream snakes, hence the lesser.

I voted pastel, because pastels are needed for so many different cool combo's. I think a NICE pastel makes a great first morph.

I voted Pastel. I have a Lemon Pastel and she's amazing. I just love staring at her pattern, and she's the sweetest girl.

I really wanted a pastel at first but I absotutley love lessers so im going to shoot for possibly both If I can save up enough. if not Ill just get an albino which is my 3rd less costly favorite
