Dry Ice???

Hey you guys i did a CO2 Chamber and bought 10 pounds of dry ice...i use it once and then put the dry ice in the freezer and next thing in the morning its not there!!! and no Nobody took it...it just disappear... i think it melt since regular ice is made up of H20 and it makes Co2 melt...what do you guys think? if i put it on a cooler would it still melt??? BTW here's my chamber,

The temperature in your freezer isn't cold enough to keep dry ice - even if it was in a cooler you'd have the same problem. Best thing to do is only buy a little bit at a time, just enough to get the job done.

Dry ice doesnt necissarily melt... I think the term is sublimate. Solid -> Gas without the liquid stage.

yup it sublimates. It freezes at -109 F so your freezer isnt nearly enough to keep it from sublimating.

I think if you have a decently strong pressurizer cooler you can keep it at higher temperatures by pressurizing it while cooling it, or so I remember hearing.

The best place to store dry ice is in a two liter plastic bottle half full of warm water with the cap tightly screwed on.

If you keep it in a small cooler it will last a bit longer. The reason it sublimated in your freezer is because the freezer blows air onto the dryice. This air may be cold in relation to room temp but is very warm compared to the appropriate temp for maintaining dryice.

Keeping it in a freezer or anywhere with good circulation while speed the process of sublimation up.

But my nearest store for dry ice only lets me buy 10 pounds the minimum...

lol i tried it and it just blew up it didnt store it...LOL

Was it wrapped in the freezer, or just in the open?

Man you just need to go buy a CO2 paintball tank and a little regulator for it.

That way you can just gas em with that and its SOOO much cheaper!

With the dry ice and water it doesn't seem like you could control the amount of gas entering the chamber, which could be pretty terrifying for the rats.

Just a thought.
