Pretty cool. You gonna try to breed it out?

It is over a million to one odds. The parents are more likely to produce another than finding a suitable mate.

I breed feeders...I offered this one on craigslist hoping someone will take it as a pet.

I always wondered if manx rats were just a rumor, I have never heard from any breeders, and some just say the tails are cropped at birth, but that looks legit.

It is a detrimental flaw for the rat though, they thermo-regulate through their tails.

most morphs are not optimal design for the animals....ie naked, albino etc...and have their own associated health concerns...

so far this one is very healthy and has hopefully found a new home.

I just had some litters with a bunch of kink-tailed rats, and I might hold some back to breed and see if I get tailless.

I used to get litters now and then with a few babies that had really wild bent tails with dozens of 90 degree kinks in them, I'm sure it was genetic somehow. Didn't look real desirable though and I never held any back and usually fed them off first. I haven't seen any now in my collection for a few years. Maybe I should have offered them to someone to work with, but I'm not sure it really would have been considered a desirable trait worthy of being passed on.

i've produced over 7 the last 6 months. i finally pin pointed the parents, and currently breeding the daughter back to the father. that gene has a genetic flaw in that the hind legs are a bit screwed up.......i feed off the genetically flawed visuals and keeped one perfect female.

lets see if i can narrow down the gene...........a few months will tell.

That's one of the fun things about breeding rodents. They don't take years to prove out. I got my whole mouse colony to be pied in about 6 months. Wish i could do that with my balls. :snake:

He is in my breeding colony now! LOL. What a friggin' trip to pick this guy up. Let me tell you something though. If you ever need rats and youre in the middle of east jabib Pennsylvania there is no other place to get them. HIGH QUALITY rats for certain.

I am growing out some het Manx females as we speak to go back in with daddy to see what I get.

From what I hear you are better off breeding het females with a manx male to get manx rather than breeding two manx together due to birthing difficulties in the females. I will know in about 6 months is my guess.

Thanks again for the awesome rats bro. Do not hesitate to get rats from this guy. Truly awesome stock!

I've just been working like a maniac lately.

My rat colony is getting out of control. I added some dumbos to the mix. I'm addicted now. I'm going to have them all soon. LOL. The Manx was a welcome addition. Waiting 16 weeks to breed those hets back is like a little kid waiting for Christmas.

I'm just over the bridge in Jersey. When I said East Jabib PA I meant that HE was in the middle of f'n no where Pennsylvania LOL. I did get to see where they make the Snyder's pretzels though LOL.

I'm introducing the dumbo gene to that black mutant lineup you made Suzuki. I want to see if I can get the dumbo ears onto those black rats you created to calm them down a little bit. They are the FASTEST rats I have ever seen.

They are impressive. They black mutants did eat one of the hooded girls. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I guess that it was survival of the fittest. LOL. I had all 8 girls...the four mutants and the four hooded girls in one tub and the manx boy and the black boy in another tub (just to prevent accidents) and when I looked in the tub one morning there was just a piece of hide left from one of the hooded girls.

So, I separated the hooded and the mutant girls into their own tubs and haven't had an issue since.

Man, they are f'n FAST!!! Also, that mutant boy is getting pretty damned big. He is already starting to chunk up like a big boy. You can tell that he is going to be big when he's grown.
