Anyone go shopping this morning? We went out and this year seemed to be a lot less hectic then last year. Our walmart was very orginized and we got in and out very quickly

Absolutely no way would I step foot into a store today. I did the whole Black Friday shopping experience one year, was enough to last me a lifetime. :weirdface

I would never go out shopping on black Friday. There is just something about all the hype that turns me off more then usual.

We do it every year and my husband is nice enough to go with me!! We actually woke up late and started at 1:30 am at Toys R Us...it was a crazy madhouse!! Then off to wait in line at Target for them to open...(for a nerf gun)lol. Then we hit Wally World then Gamestop. We finished up this morning around 8am.

Always a fun time...you come home with so many goofey stories of ppl being stupid! Thank goodness we were not doing electronics this year because those areas were CRAZY!!

We mostly just did toys...Legos-Star Wars-and Video Games!! I already got my present from my hubby this year. My baby butter python....LOVE HER!!

We went to walmart to get two DS lites one for each of my two son's. Also picked up some dvd's and a new printer. They were VERY unorganized at the one I went to. I wanted to go to lowes and get a table saw but after dealing with the walmart drama I decided I had enough and we didn't go to lowes. I went to lowes last year and it wasn't bad at all but I just had enough after dealing with walmart this year. Took care of a couple things for the kids and that was my main concern...

Never have never will, not worth for me especially seeing the way some people behave……………….holiday spirit at it’s worst in my opinion.

I do not like shopping in general, and I hate waiting in line so it's not for me.

Get to do my shopping online as I always do.

I am very clausterphobic by nature, so standing in long lines and jostling with other shoppers is not very appealing to me. The only Black Friday shopping that I might do, is run to the grocery store for necessities, but that's about it.

I spent Black Friday cleaning rats, snakes, taking the dogs to the dog park for a nice long romp, watching some chick flicks and taking a nap!

I went to Target. It wasn't that bad, but I went pretty late at about 12-1. There wasn't much to look at, I just browsed like usual. We waited in line 2 years ago, and that was crazy. I thought they were going to find a dead body in the line cuz it was so thick.

My mom used to take me out with her every year on Black Friday, and one year I watched two women fighting over the last Furby at Wal-Mart, until one actually punched the other in the face. I think I was 15 or 16, and that was the last time I've gone out for Black Friday.

Oh my god, that is scary. All for a Furby!!

I remember last year when someone in New York had a heart attack near the entrance of a Walmart. The paramedics couldn't even get to him because the people trying to get in refused to move aside, and people were actually trampling over him!! How crazy is that...

That is so sad! Selfish people! Hmmmm let's ponder this for a moment: a person's life or a $100 savings on a PS3... that's a toughie, but I THINK we should pick a person's life... God! Its just so sad :(

Never will I go out on Black Friday again. 2 years ago I waited in line for 6 hours to get my dad a 55" flat panel samsung for 900 and when I'm 3 people from the front of the line they say that have 14 left only to go back and say oh hey we lied we're out. Let's just say I was asked to leave the Circuit City... (Jokes on them, outta business!)

However that same year I went out later when the frenzy calmed down and got the whole series of the sopranos for like 125.00.

I've worked Black Friday when I was a manager at Guitar Center, and I must say the deals are not the best deals, sales are not as big as the hype.

This year, I "protested" Black Friday. There aren't many employers hiring, and I've had a tremendous amount of frustration as I have done all I can to get my name out there and get a job.

I was laid off in March, and have been collecting my unemployment benefits since. I've applied online, in-person, met the managers without an appointment, written countless cover letters, turned in resume's, called them back to "touch bases" only to be told, "if we feel that you meet the qualifications of the job, we will call you back." Which is, another way of saying we're just not hiring right now.

I have noticed a lot of stores are understaffed though, and so this year the lack of opportunities have me "protesting" Black Friday.

Oh, is there anyone else who's boycotting gift-giving this year? My family and I have decided to, since we are all in hard economic times. But I am still getting a little something for my young nieces. I just hate the commercialism that goes along with the season.. although my mom and I do have a strong tradition of shopping this time of year and will still do so once I get home; just for ourselves, not each other.

We are. I'm sick and tired of the commercialized hype of the holidays, plus add your reason, the economic times.

We bought a house this year (sure the ugliest thing you ever set eyes on) and that's our gift to ourselves. We don't have any family worth visiting, so I'll fry something up on the grill (no stove yet) and we'll enjoy a STRESS FREE Christmas!

Oh, and hubby is a manager at a grocery store, and he said they were dead as can be also on BF lol.

I feel the same way. Hubby and I have talked about, when we have kids, not doing the whole crapload-o-stuff-from-China deal. I like the idea of giving them toys or whatever they want on their birthdays, but making a rule of one handmade gift for each person on Yule. I've forgotten almost all of my major Xmas presents I got as a kid, but I'd sure love to have something that my brother or sister made for me now that I'm older. Anything to get away from the "What did I get??" mentality, and put more emphasis on family.

I can certainly appreciate hand-made gifts but when I was growing up Birthdays and X-mas was the only time my brother and I got toys/video games, period. So I always looked forward to seeing if I got what I asked for on X-mas, wasn't a big deal if I didn't get exactly what I asked for cause I always got stuff I liked.

As I've gotten older the idea of receiving gifts has shifted more towards giving them but I don't see anything wrong with "commercialization", but I don't think anyone should expect gifts. It's not a gift if you have to give it.

I love buying gifts for everyone. Its my favorite thing to do....finding just the right thing they will love!!! During Christmas one of my favorite things is seeing my sons face when he walks downstairs to the tree. We NEVER put anything out until the Christmas Eve. He still believes in Santa and we take great strides to keep it that way. I probably only have 1 year left of it. :tears::tears: I guess I just LOVE the magic of the whole thing.

My hubby and I do black friday...we do save a bit and it is fun to add up the savings when we get home. But really we just have fun doing it. We have so many crazy stories when it is all over. It truly is quite the crack up...ppl are so serious about it.

I do have to say..my son is an only child and he is very spoiled!! But with that being said...I was an only child and very spoiled. I think that you can spoil your children but teach them NOT to expect everything and to have good citizenship, and lastly...appreciate everything that you have and that you are blessed to have those things. You can loose everything and that is ok...as long as you have love and each other. We regularly donate and help out others so that he learns...(which is hard to teach kids) that some don't have anything....not even a book.

    Ok...wow...I just wrote a book..sorry

Well, I hate crowds. Any place where it is shoulder to shoulder people. Even a restaraunt thats packed with no where left to sit is too much for me. The idea of shopping in crowds of people and nerve racking traffic is not my idea of fun. I do most of my shopping at night at grocery stores and department stores that are open late or 24hrs. Call it a mild case of public anxiety. Though I love going to concerts, I dont do pits for this very reason too.

I even prefer to drive at night if I have to drive states away. I didnt plan to get gifts for anyone but my son this year anyway.

The problem I see it causing is it will make the economy worse because no one can afford to shop. Black friday was way worse last year but we still had a bunch of big name stores closing down due to the lack of business. Like Circuit City.

It will be a blow to the already bad economy but in the end I think it will help that people are learning the value of family time, budgets and saving money.
