Pics of my baby boy
Here's a few pics of my tiny guy called Frank. He was sold to me as a pastel jungle, what do you think? Pastel it definately is, but what about the jungle?

Re: Pics of my baby boy
From what I understand "Pastel Jungle" is the same as just "Pastel". That's a good lookin dude...how about a better pic of his head. Looks very dark on top...pastels usually have faded heads...

Re: Pics of my baby boy
Well, here's a better one, where you can see his head

Re: Pics of my baby boy
Yeah, now that you've mentioned i went and checked Enchi out. It looks the same, but i guess mine is a bit more yellow than Enchis in their pics.

Re: Pics of my baby boy
Enchi in the first pic but the other photo looks like a normal. Nice snake anywho. :)
You can always ask the person behind the Enchi - Lars Brandell at Sweball.

Re: Pics of my baby boy
Leaning towards Enchi as well, but he definitly has the yellow on his sides that pastels do. Nice pickup :)

Re: Pics of my baby boy
Ok, i got a response from the breeder, this is what he says about Frank's background: ' This one is hatched from a Bumble Bee to a Normal. So the father is a mix of pastel and spider. The pastel gene in the Bumble Bee is a Jungle Pastel. Due to mixes of genes sometimes you get odd patterns and that's the case with this one. When you breed this one back to a normal the chance on the "real" jungle pastel is more than resonable '.
Someone explain so i can understand too? :D

Re: Pics of my baby boy
yah i dont know what to say..i believe a Pastel used to be called a Pastel Jungle when they first discovered some in the wild, but eventually just dropped the 'Jungle'..thats from what i've heard.. anyone will till you that if you breed a bee to a normal that yah you have a chance at a Pastel... it does look similar to an Enchi.. i guess you gotta try and get more birds eye view photos and nice side shots and take em to the experts!

Re: Pics of my baby boy
Well, here's two more. They are shot in a bit more light, so perhaps they're clearer? I would really like to know the real morph on this one.

Re: Pics of my baby boy
From those pictures it looks alot like an Enchi imo!
Very nice yellow on it tho!

Re: Pics of my baby boy
Everyone says it's an Enchi now. :D Is it possible to get that from normal x bumblebee?
-
Re: Pics of my baby boy
Not from that pairing, no, but if the breeder can't recognize he or she produced an enchi, how would the breeder know if one of the parents is actually carrying the gene?
-
Re: Pics of my baby boy
Yeah, well i don't know how well the Enchi morph is known in the Netherlands. Frank's breeder's from there: http://ballpython.nl/

Re: Pics of my baby boy
Ok, i'll contact the breeder to ask his opinion on this. Thank you guys. :)

Re: Pics of my baby boy
Well, long story short, Frank IS a pastel, as he was sold to me. First i had the wrong breeder ( the real webaddress is www.ballpythons.nl, just 1 letter difference, so tracking the breeder down was a bit of an adventure), but finally i got the answer from the real breeder. He said it is a pastel although it doesn't really look like it.
This is what he said: "From the head to half the snake it is a Pastel but from the middle to the end it looks like an Enchi I think this comes due to the influense of the Spider gene. I cannot prove it because it was the only one that looked like this but I can guarantee you for 100% it is not an Enchi it is Pastel."

Re: Pics of my baby boy
It doesn't even have the white lips of a pastel. I know what the breeder said - and there's no way that the spider influences the look (or else it would be a bee). I'm going with the others and saying that's an enchi.

Re: Pics of my baby boy
I would also agree with Robin. He looks more Enchi than Pastel. BUT.... Don't be too upset. Enchi combos are really great. Check them out on NERD Reptiles's site.

Re: Pics of my baby boy
Here's one of my Enchis...It's almost identical to Yours...Even have the same spots on the nose and lips.

Here's a pic of a Pastel...Completely different color...Notice the faded nose and lips, which Your Enchi is lacking.

He is ceratinly a looker!!

Re: Pics of my baby boy
I really dont think that is a pastel. It makes no sense. I hatched out pastels last year and every one looked different from the other but every one had the faded upper lip.
The mustache and lip spots is only seen in a few select morphs and pastel is not one of them. If I am wrong I welcome someone to correct me.
Also if you look at the pattern of the markings. Its very common for enchi's to have those "H" or "M" (ladders or saddles) shaped markings. With pastels its usually not as common. (notice I said usually)
IMO it cant possibly be a pastel.
BUT enchi is an amazing morph and many people prefer it to a regular pastel. It is a gorgeous snake no matter what it is.

Re: Pics of my baby boy
I saw it's an enchi too! But like everyone says, that is a good thing considering the combo potential.
Now you can shop for a "true" pastel :)

Re: Pics of my baby boy
The coloration looks like a pastel, but I see no blushing on the sides, back, or head. Is it possible that the parents were both het for enchi without the breeder knowing and one enchi got mixed into the clutch?
