Re: Hatching Blackthroats
Congrats! Awesome looking babies you have there.
Question - what is the power or whatever in with the meal worms??

YAY, T! :) They are beautiful, Congrats :D
Re: Hatching Blackthroats
That's the remnants of vit/calcium powder. The other bowl is currantly soaking, then tomorrow they'll be eating crickets more likely.

Very cool Wolfy. If that one in the water bowl ever wants to live on the Right Coast let me know.
Re: Hatching Blackthroats
Since varanid breeding is still in its infancy, especially in regards to the larger species, I will extend a very sincere congratulations on this accomplishment.
Not many undertake this venture, what with the rock bottom prices of imports, but for the discerning varanophile, proper compensation for your efforts will be easily obtained. Personally I will only purchase CB animals, and the price is not one of the things I consider as far as varanids go.
Again congratulations on those beautiful hatchlings. I'm so envious.
And I too would appreciate pictures of the parents, and their enclosure/s.

Re: Hatching Blackthroats
If you check my previous postings, I've put a bunch of thread up with the parents. Moggie and Wilson.
I really enjoy my monitors, and fully appreciate how much work any large varanid is!
They currantly have two main enclosures. One inside is 8 ft long, and approx 4 ft wide(inside measurement something like 3.5 ft+ due to me rebuilding the front door/wall). The outside enclosure is 8ft x 8ft, 6 ft tall. When weather is good, they get to enjoy the outside(when I'm home, for security reasons).

The hatchlings(at least one) has been MURDERING crickets this afternoon. She races after them and pounces them. I'm trying to make sure both are, but they're so fast! These will be placed for sale after two weeks of feeding. I wish I could keep them all, but with the parents and Groo, plus the snakes, I am quickly running out of room, and anyone can tell, these lizards take a LOT of room to keep properly!
Thanks so much for all the kudos! I'm preening over these guys, and I don't know how many other clutches were hatched this year, but it's gotta be a real low number, because I can't find word of any.
