You got Pasta and Bread. That's always a win!

No meat, no beer, and the grapes are getting squished.

Re: Poll: Rate these groceries!
Walt.
Ok i will try and be nice about this, and I sincerely hope you understand that this comes from a place of love.
The groceries are *fine*. Perhaps not conventionally the best groceries, and as we know "Not ALL groceries are created equally".
But the important thing is how YOU feel about your groceries? I mean you are the one that bought them, and you are the one that has to pay for them, bring them home, unpack them, and then eat them. And your committment does not stop there. If you eat too much then you need to deal with any extra weight, if you do not have enough for your favorite menu item then you may need to buy more, and most importantly, it will be up to you to clean up after them (throw out refuse, dispose of excess food, and recycle).
That my friend is a big committment that may last a whole week!? So I really (and again I am being very sincere here) hope that this something that you have thought through?
What happens if we hate the groceries? Are you going to trash compact them, allow them to go to waste, or worse over spice them and serve them to family and friends?
Like I always tell people, if you need other people's opinions on your groceries, then perhaps you should be eating out?
Buy the groceries you like. Do your research. And be PROUD of what is in that bag! I mean something attracted you to those groceries in the first place right?
Find that and celebrate it everyday!
Sincerely,
Bruce

Quite possibly the greatest post I have ever read. Thanks for your sage advice, Sir. I thought enough of these particular groceries to bring them home, but I did want everyone else's opinion to ease my possible buyer's remorse. I do realize that with great groceries comes great responsibility, and I do not take that responsibility lightly. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted on all of the happenings with my new bag of groceries.

I think photos once they are out of the bag might be a nice way to feel some pride for them. We love photos here. :)
Bruce
PS: Here is the milk I bought last week. I mean not the best milk, but when I saw it I just had to have it!
Sometimes it is just nice to get updated pictures of a person collection of dairy products to see how they have changed.

Very nice, Bruce! Thanks for the update.
Here is the Pellegrino post unbagging.

With paperwork provided by the grocer, I was able to trace it's lineage all the way back to here.

Walt is this was anyone else posting I would question whether or not that bag of groceries had been photoshopped!
I love getting paperwork with groceries, you want to know your producer is reputable. :)

We used to get milk delivered to the house when I was a kid... guess that is where my passion for groceries in general, and for dairy products spefically, started.
So many reasons I love this hobby (of grocery buying).

Well to be honest Bruce, the Pellegrino bottle I just posted was not in fact the one in the bag. I decided to QT the bottle from the bag so I used an '05 proven drinkable bottle instead. I will start pairing up soon in hopes for some super six packs. Wish me luck!:gj:
-
Re: Poll: Rate these groceries!
I think QT'ing groceries is over-rated.
I mean groceries are hardier than we give them credit for. I have a bag of Wonder Bread that once fell behind my fridge for 3 weeks!!! I knew it had gotten loose, but I figured we had lost it for good.
I was so happy to find it safe and sound and in perfect shape. It made delicious sandwiches still! I just dusted it off, put it right into the cupboard and there was no problems.
That being said, I have implemented a mini-QT on my new four apples I picked up today. I worry they may not have A(H1N1) but that they may be carriers of it.
I guess it is what you are comfortable with.
And yes... good luck on that pairing. Drinking water you have produced yourself is the BEST!!!

LOL! This is hilarious Walt! Thanks for the laugh!

Re: Poll: Rate these groceries!
Looks just awful. The spaghetti isn't even in a box, none of the fruit is bagged and neither is the bread. Very unsanitary. And to top it off, the gallon of milk is placed ON TOP of everything else... Where are the eggs? At the bottom being crushed??? As a former professional bag boy, I'd rate this a 1 out of 10.

Wow Mark - way to kill Walt's excitement over his groceries. :(
You could have been a little more sensitive - after all, as long as HE'S happy with them, why should it matter what we think of them? Couldn't you tell how excited he was about his purchase? :colbert: Killjoy!

X2 Your an evil person Mark...:rage::rage:
Just because you don't like it dosen't mean you have to be mean about it..

Re: Poll: Rate these groceries!
I love it! Awesome thread :gj:

Re: Poll: Rate these groceries!
It looks lovely but I wouldn't touch it. :)
I'm living on a very strict plan in order to keep my muscles and I wouldn't
recommend eating the spaghetti and white bread. 350 kcals is a lot.
And the cheese is a maybe because I don't know how much fat that contains.
There's a fine line between healthy fat and the bad ones. ;)
The milk can be good depending on how much fat there is - we mix milk
with our creatine and protein supplement.
But for a person that isn't 'paranoia' on what he eats then I would say
it looks like some very nice groceries. Nice buy.

I had these pizza ones that were het for Cheetos. I took out a second mortgage for them, but they paid off like crazy in the end. I'd do it again if given the opportunity.

Re: Poll: Rate these groceries!
I'm hoping to convince the staff to do a GOTM contest. I won't hold my breath, but I think it would be a great opportunity for others to show off their own bags that they are proud of. Maybe even a Macro themed GOTM? Just throwin that idea out there and also would be curious how those outside of the U.S. store and care for their groceries.

Re: Poll: Rate these groceries!
Omg Walt this is the best thread ever. I must say, your groceries are stunning! Haha!
-
Re: Poll: Rate these groceries!
Those who said it is a poor example...
There's things in there to feed to lizards and tortoises, so maybe Walt was shopping for his lizards and tortoises.. but if he doesn't own any, he was probably shopping for a friend? :O
