We keep ours in bus tubs and we have had about three tubs that have been chewed on but it hasnt became a major problem it seems to be only a select few rats that are doing it but they do enjoy to chew on things I have blocks of wood though that I put in there tubs and they like to chew on them

I've noticed a lot of babies dying when it gets below 40 . . . the pinks have no hair to keep them warm, and even in the nests the females make, when the mom leaves to eat/drink, they are exposed. I've got mine in a shed now with a heater run into it on an extension cord. Lots more babies now--I actually have 12 pinks at the moment! LOL (It's been a while since I've had that many between feeding some off and losing some due to cooler weather.)

Yes, if you caught them quickly after death, you could freeze them and use them later. If they sit too long though, they will begin to rot, so the smell might get to you after you've thawed them.

Here's a pic of my rat rack:

It's about 6 feet tall--I'd guess the tubs are about 8-10 inches high? Never really measured them; I don't know how wide/deep they are.

    Re: rats temps
No, they are quite a bit larger than cat litter pans.

You can order Mazuri lab block directly from mazuri.com, though beware: the 50 lb bag is going to cost around $30, and the shipping is going to cost about $30. Just check your protein in the seed mix--you want the mommy rats to have a good diet so they can properly feed their babies as well as gain weight back after birthing.

I use the same rat racks, those tubs are concrete mixing tubs from menards or home depot. Just go to whatever home improvement stores they have in Ireland and check.
