Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
So for 13 years I have had very long & straight hair. All one length. Yesterday was my appintment to get it trimmed. I have always gotten 6 to 7 inches cut off every year. (it grows that much in a year) But yesterday I went in so fed up with not being able to do anything with it other than put it in a tail due the wind, that I opened my mouth to the girl who has been trying to get me to do something different to my hair for years. A trim turned into a hack with long layers.
I left the place in shock. Everyone I saw after that really liked it but the few people I really wanted to like it, didnt.. I do think its cute and it took a couple years off. It will be so much easier to deal with, but OMG I really cant believe I did this to my hair.
Im a little in shock and I believe if it didnt grow as fast as it does that id be in much worse shape right now lol. I have always had a major complex about my hair. I know men with hair as long as mine was who would never have butchered their hair. I think my real issue is there is one person who has made it very clear they dont like it and its the one person whose opinion really mattered.
So give me some honest opinions. I dont care if you say it looks like crap. As long as its the truth, It will be welcomed :weirdface

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
As a typical male who looks at girls constantly, I gotta say I love it.
Plus its hair, if you don't like it, it grows back, well not mine..i just keep losing more....is it the stress or the drinking lol i dunno.

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
I don't think there is anything bad about it! It looks fresher, more up to date!
I know it feels strange when you have a big change, but it looks great!

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
Well I like it and I am not just saying that. It is a little more hip than just straight. And you will be able to do some cool styling with it now other than just a pony tail. I also think that you would look good with some really long bangs swept over to the side. Kind of like that hot seductress look!!! :gj:
Let me guess...the one that doesn't like it is your significant other?? My husband LOVES the long hair and never wants me to cut it. I think it is more that they just don't like change!!
-
Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
Well I have to say, and this is no BS. "I think it looks GREAT!!" :gj:
And I like all kinds of hair cuts on woman, from short to long.
Maybe the reason that the people close to you are not responding very well to it. Is because they are so used to the same old hair style.
Do your self a favor get all dressed up for a night on the town and see if they don't sing a different tune.

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
I like it :gj: It is always hard when the one person whose opinion really mattered has made it very clear they dont like it. It looks good and maybe it will grow on them. If you look at my profile you can see that I usually keep a longer beard. Every now and again I get tired of it and shave it off and start over. My wife hates it when I shave it all off and I always feel bad when I do it so I kinda know where you are coming from and feel your pain. Maybe it's just because they are used to seeing us a certain way. Not so much that it looks bad, we just look different. At least that is what I tell myself :D
-
Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
I think it looks nice :gj:.

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
Well reading your post I thought it would be all chopped off short, heck you still have tons of length there! I like how it frames your face more than your longer style.
-
Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
I really like your hair! I think it frames your face just beautifully! Don't feel to bad, I used to have very long hair also and I ended up getting most of it cut off. I didn't like it a first but now my hair is starting to grow back so it really isn't that bad after all.
-
Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
ive had really long hair for as long as I can remember and Ive always been really sketchy with who cuts my hair but I also got all of mine cut off last night. I finally relized that hair is hair it grows back really quick lol. And I cant tell you how good it feels not to have it constantly in my face now lol

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
It looks beautiful!
I know the feeling, getting a lot of hair chopped off. I went from nose-length to less than an inch, and I thought it looked really bad. Two days later I started to warm up to it. In reality, it looked great, I just couldn't get over how different it looked.
-
Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
I know it doesnt look like alot but she took 7 inches off the back and closer to 10 inches off the front. Compared to what it did feel like before, I feel like I dont have any at all now lol! I can still pull it back for work (barely) But the hair in front hasnt been that short in front since I was 18 or 19. Someone at a restaurant I go to alot liked it alot but she said I look like a soccer mom now!! It will take some getting used to thats for sure!
And sorry about tripping the censors. I didnt even look at the post after I posted it until it was too late to edit it. I was a little surprised myself when I saw it. Oops.

changing your hair from long to short can completly change your image when I was in middle school my mom made me cut my hair and when I went to school my teacher thought I was a new student. lol

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
I think it looks great, sometimes change is scary, like when I first shaved my head I freaked lol. But I turned out to love it. I hope you enjoy your new haircut.
-
Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
My opinion, it was a GREAT change!
I think you would look even BETTER with shorter layers and about shoulder length hair, but as a guy with long hair, I know chopping it off isn't really a favorable option.
I think any big change in hair is always a BIG DEAL, especially when us long haired people cut off a considerable amount.
I think you just need to find out what way looks best to you, to wear what you now have.
All in all, a change for the better:D

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
I don't feel sorry for you. Yours will grow back. Mine never will! :rage:

LOL :P Well if you're a bald man then you should feel good knowing that I am one of the many women who believe that men look good bald as well as with long hair. As long as its not bozo the clown bald haha no hair around the sides! Either it all goes or nothing!

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
When I was little, I always had long hair. One day, my mom had me go get it trimmed. I was around.. maybe 5 years old at the time. She got it cut off to right about my shoulders. I looked like Dora the Explorer, and I was so upset that she cut it that short. I have long hair now, and don't ever plan on cutting it short, but hey, I gotta say, I really like your hair short!! It definitely looks good, nothing bad about it. And this IS my honest opinion, I've seen tons of girls with down right bad hair, but your's isn't even close to bad. If you don't like it, you can always grow it back out.
I also have really long bangs, and in 4th grade and lower I had short bangs that went across my forehead. In 5th I put my bangs to the left side and grew them out. Now, my bangs are catching up to the length of my hair, but still shorter than my overall hair. I don't ever plan on cutting it back up to my forehead, but maybe up to my jaw if it gets too long.

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
There is nothing bad or unusual about your hair cut, in fact, it looks great. I would say you don't have a hair issue, but rather, perhaps, an issue with what people think, which is only natural.
Question is this; do you like it?

LOL that's hilarious! You're right, a hair cut can really change your image. I don't really plan on cutting my hair, and when I thought I wanted to cut my bangs shorter, I got opinions from my friends and they said it would make me look a lot younger, and so I didn't really want to look like a 10 or 11 year old so I didn't cut my bangs LOL.

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
I also really like it! I have hair as long as you, and layered around the face in a similar way-- i think its really just a matter of figuring out how you like it -- do you have a flat iron? you could straighten it and then just gently curve the ends towards your face, which would give you a sleeker look--
i honestly think your hair looks fuller and more styled now... sometimes when ppl have all one length, its either 'marsha brady-esqu' or its 'i dont know what to do with it so here it is' -- i think you look younger and it really brings out your cheekbones...
i think you did good.

Why don't you just say it? What you really wanna know is what the only person that really matters thinks.:rofl:
This thread is kinda worthless, except for the fact that it will make you feel better. Nobody is gonna be mean.
Hope this thread is working for yah. Now go kill the hairstylist.:rofl:

BG has a funny story about this. Momma Gunns wanted BG to get a haircut before he graduated from 8th grade. BG hated haircuts so he ran away for the day. BG was up at the school right before graduation and the principal saw him. He called momma Gunns. She brought up his suit and BG graduated with long hair.:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
No wonder that Big Gunns is so accomplished. The famous brain surgeon Jethro Bodine only graduated the 6th grade.

Actually BG it was a little disappointing but im really not trying to get people to say something to make me feel better. I have no idea if I like it yet or not. Sometimes I look at it & think oh man thats going to take forever to grow back. Sometimes I look at it & think hey its not half bad, kinda cute. Really id hate to think that all this time it would have been better at a more managable length. Honestly I dont know what to think yet, despite all the good & funny comments. Plus I normally dont care what anyone thinks about how I look but I actually do care about a very close friend enough to care about what they think. I think everyone has one person whose opinion actually matters to them. Regardless of wether they admit it or not. Friend, family member, etc..
Oh & isnt this the off-topic section?? EVERY post on here is worthless. Its no different than sitting around with a bunch of friends, randomly bringing up worthless subjects. Difference is, in THAT scenario everyone would be fine with it if a friend brought up something completely worthless.

BG was only trying to say that you're not really gonna get an honest opinion. Even if you did ask for one. There is no need to get upset about it though....Big Gunns would tell yah if it was bad.:gj:
Remember what BG says.
BG tells it like it is....or he just doesn't tell it.:gj:

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
You may hate it. I never knew a woman who liked her hair the first time she changed it. However, I believe the different lengths give it style. To me long straight hair is fine, but this is more interesting. I like it. A little more curle perhaps.

This is too true, I shave my head every few months. Practically no hair maintenance needed other than washing with bar soap, it's awesome.

I guess I will be that guy... I do not think it is "awful", but I liked the before version better. I don't think you look like a soccer mom, but something about it does not sit well with me. But what do I know? I am just a crazy biker...
I believe that you have it now, you may as well keep it and try it out for a while. You may learn to like it. If you just go and cut it off, you will have to wait longer to get it back, if that is what you want. just have a few more cuts, and slowly get rid of the layered look, if you don't like them. You may find an in-between that you DO like for yourself. After all, isn't that the most important thing, making yourself happy?
Just my $.02 , which due to the economy, is almost worthless...

Wow you know what my biggest worry was?? I have an 8 inch leather hair wrap and I was mad that I wouldnt be able to use it now! I think that must be my issue with it. It feels great it looks more feminine but it just doesnt seem like "me". Im not really sure if it looks right on someone with a full arm tattoo either.. I dont know.. Its still weird for me.

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
WOWOWOWOW//
I really like your hair!!
And I am a woman with mid length just past shoulder length hair...
You could really shock em next time by letting it grow out again, and then have 10-12 inches taken of for Locks for Love..
You donate the hair for a cancer patients who get the hair customized for their heads when they lose it to chemo and radiation therapy.
Now I gotta go stalk off in a snit cuz you gots gorgeous hair and I gotta go talk to my beautician!!!
stomp stomp...
Love the hair!!!

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
As a gay man who knows hair, I can tell you, that the cut suits you very well. Its simple without being boring and it looks pretty, young and healthy. I HATE blunt hair, like all cut to one length. Its so bleh!
It brings out the lovely soft texture of your hair (I can tell that from a pic)

Re: Honest hair opinion, Im a bit traumatized.
I like it! I think you kinda look like the mom from Weeds! lol...
I as well used to have really long hair, like almost to my butt. I've always loved my long hair, but my friend didn't like it too much, lol. She made an appointment for me with her hair lady, I went in there and basically closed my eyes and said "Do what you think would look good". My hair is basically a shorter version of yours. The front shapes my face, and I have a longer layer. I LOVE it. And think it looks darn good on you too!
I did go in once after not going in for a long time and told her that my hair was too long at the time and needed it to be way shorter. I think she took it the wrong way, and cut it WAY too short. I hated it. I'm just glad my hair grows fast.
The only bad thing about this hair cut is if you go so long between cuts, the front layer will go through an awkward stage. With the rate your hair grows, I don't think you'll have a problem with that.
