    Black or White?
I have always shot on white melamine, but recently shot some on black, and was wondering what YOU personally liked to see....black or white backdrop.

    Black

For these particular pictures, I don't think it's a fair comparison since the white is perfect, clean white, whereas I can see the fibers on the black cloth ...

So basically, I like the white better, but I'd also like to see some shots on black melamine or plastic or some other non-textured surface.

    Pretty pretty snake, though!

I had thought of that, especially being so close up, the fibers may take away from the subject.

I may have to hunt down a piece of black melamine.

I was guessing that but he is so extreme I thought he might have something else going on too. I really love how yellow he is. My pin is reduced like that too, but more toward brown overall. :D

I usually like white a lot better. It's cleaner and it's usually a better background to show off colors.

I think it depends on the snake. The more contrast the better. Ex;Shoot a lucy on black or 8-ball on white. I think it makes a hell of a diffrence

I think it looks better on the black, I'm not a huge fan of the shadow that the white casts.

That pin is so awesome... I could stare at him all day!

I really like the black the best. I think that it just sets off the colors of that awesome snake very well!

I agree it depends on the contrast between the snake and the background. I would offer another idea. I have seen people shoot on what appears to be black glass giving a vague reflective quality and added light without the glare of white. It looks sharp.

I remember that pinstripe, Patrick. Friggin amazing snake, still.

I actually like the white better because its easier to adjust white balance for it to better see an accurate veiw of the snake, but thats just me.
