Flexwatt

anyone have experience with this tape? im looking to use it for my tubs instead of the UTH'S. Im having trouble with one of my UTH'S not sticking to the tub! anyway any feedback on this tape would be great! wattage, therm, etc! thanks!

I don't know much about flexwatt but if you buy foil tape from your local hardware store(in the heating section), you can use it to hold your uth on the tub! Works great!

I was thinking about that but if the fw is better all around I'd rather take it!

Right on the money about the aluminum duct work tape, holds great to plastic or glass. :gj:

Either will work fine assuming it is big enough to provide the size warm spot you want and you have it connected to a thermostat or at least a rheostat. Just that rheostats are a little more of a pain to adjust.

You can purchase aluminum tape to tape the UTH to the tub. I use aluminum tape to tape down my UTHs if they are slightly coming off or if I had to take them off for some reason.

Flexwatt is aimed more at people who have more than one snake. I am not sure how many you have but it sounds like one.

The thing with flexwatt, if you want it really cheap, you have to wire it yourself. It isn't hard but some people are put off by this.

If you already have a UTH and it is working for you, stick with that. No reason to spend money when you don't have to.

i have 4 there all in tubs. No rack yet but i plan to get one which is why im kinda aiming towards the tape, if that makes sence.

i fpund a few shops in the kingsnake classifieds that offer this stuff pretty cheap and will pre wire it for like 6 bucks!

Yep, I use it in my rack and on my QT tubs. :) Its good stuff for the money. I wired it myself because it was cheaper. For less than $6 I can wire 6 shelves of flexwatt.

This may be a dumb question, especially since I have never used Flexwatt, but if you are going to use it on tanks or tubs that are not in a rack, then wouldn't you still need the Aluminum tape to stick it on anyway?

Yeah you will. Unless you route out a place for the flexwatt to sit, even then you will still need to tape it down.

I just recently put Flexwatt in my rack, and I love the stuff. If you don't want to wire it yourself, Reptile Basics will do it for free with your order of heat tape.

+1 for ordering flexwatt from reptile basics...

You dont realy have to tape it to the tubs, that would kinda defeat the purpouse of having it easy with tubs, most people just tape it down to their racks or a wodden board and just sit the tubs on top.

This is just a melanie board I got from home depot. It can hold 3x 28/32qt tubs across. Very handy. Im planning to make a rack out of these boards. But for now until I move, I have one board on the floor on top of towel to keep it form moving around.
