I rated it a 4. Good example.

Re: rate the snake: male lesser
I love lessers. Overall I'd rate this snake 'great' simply because I like it, but comparing to all the other lessers out there, I give it an 'average'

Re: rate the snake: male lesser
Gave it a 4, looks just like mine lol lighter then most.

Re: rate the snake: male lesser
You should have posted his age too. Lesser colors change over time. Some are better than others, depends on what you are looking for exactly.

Re: rate the snake: male lesser
I would like the person who voted this a terrible example to please show me their version of a good lesser.
I like your snake bro.

Re: rate the snake: male lesser
Hey you leave yourself open to criticism, you'll get criticized. I voted average, and if you want to see what an excellent example is just look up and of Robin's threads about her lesser.

Re: rate the snake: male lesser
He is really nice look's like he is ready to breed how much does he weight?
lance

Re: rate the snake: male lesser
I voted average...a little too dark for me, the lighter the better imo.

Re: rate the snake: male lesser
I like him, he could be lighter but then again I like everything lighter. Lessers can be hard to photograph. Pictures sometimes don't show the yellows and cream colors well when contrasted with the darker bronze and copper colors.

Re: rate the snake: male lesser
Sigh...I really don't like these threads because a) it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks about your animals, as long as YOU like them and b) you open yourself up to hurt feelings.
With that said - is that a lesser that "I'd" add to my collection? Probably not - because it's not completely reduced pattern and it's darker than what I'd choose for myself. So, based on what "I'd" want in a lesser, I'd rate it average.
As shown by the votes, he DOES fit the bill for others and therefore, they ranked him higher.

I dont think these threads are competition threads, more like a hot or not for snakes.

Re: rate the snake: male lesser
Yes, I think I'm responsible for starting all this--I was curious to see what others thought of the quality of some of my animals, and especially curious about their reasoning as to why, which many folks volunteer. I am immune to hurt feelings if someone says one of them is ugly.
I agree, folks should consider carefully whether they want an honest opinion, before doing an anonymous poll like this. :) Of course, there are always going to be some people who will vote 1 on everything they see just to be annoying, or because they 'don't like ball pythons', but that's easy to ignore.
I think the opinions of others DO matter in the long run, if you're considering breeding--there is a learning curve as to what people prefer in each morph. Unless you are breeding soley for yourself, you're planning to sell the animals--understanding what people want will help you breed animals that people will pay more for.
If you didn't think this hobby was a competition, you haven't been paying attention to the price tags at the shows. ;) But of course, what one individual thinks is gorgeous someone else may not like at all.
I don't think there would be anything wrong if some reptile shows in the future were actual shows--with ribbons and all. :D Why not? Isn't that part of the fun in the hobby?

i agree 100%
i think "reptile shows" would be awesome. there would be sooo many categorys though. they could do something like that at daytona or another BIG show. i think it would be great and profitable to who ever would host something like that.:gj:

I disagree with that Robin, I don't think it would necessarily lead to hurt feelings. I always assume that the poster just wants an honest answer. Beauty has always been, and always will be in the eyes of the beholder and it really doesn't matter what others think. Frankly if I posted an animal from my collection and some people told me they thought it was ugly as mud it wouldn't phase me in the least, if I agreed with them it wouldn't be in my collection in the first place but it is instructive to hear other peoples opinions.
I've quite frankly been surprised by others opinions several times in the past. There is an active poll on this forum right now that has surprised me as to peoples preferences in cinnamons. I never would have guessed that more people prefer dark cinnamons over light cinnamons. It's given me enough pause to take a second look and I have to admit that there are some darker cinnamons that are quite pleasing to the eye, something I probably wouldn't have previously noticed because at first glance they were too dark for my tastes.
There are actually a number of morphs that I never particularly liked because I just couldn't see the beauty in them. Morphs like Axanthics or Enchis or Sables or Womas or Spotnoses, but seeing other peoples opinions has caused me to take a second look and to modify my initial opinion. I recently picked up one of these and couldn't be happier with it. Others I hope to pick up in the future because I can now see more possibilities that I didn't see before. And it's threads like this that cause people to take a second look. Not just for the original poster, but for everyone else who reads them too.

Thats why the poll is geared towards you, oh great beholder, to find out your opinion on the snake. We own the animals, we know theyre hot. But we have to breed them, and well, WWP already covered the rest.

Re: rate the snake: male lesser
I gave it an average, still a good looking snake tho

Re: rate the snake: male lesser
I think ball python shows, like dog shows, would be so cool. First there needs to be a governing organization to the whole crazy hobby to unify names of morphs and what traits constitute a given morph. Then once the standards are set, the judging can begin! How fun would that be?
-
Re: rate the snake: male lesser
I rated it a good example. :)
What I love about BPs is the range of individual patterns allowed within each category of morph. IMO, if every morph was "light," "reduce pattern" and no "keyholes" they would become quite boring.
Looking at the snake above, I see "possibilities." There is enough reduced pattern if I wanted to go that way, there is enough light, dark such a great mixture of everything Keyholes, light, dark, contrast, that the possibilities are endless to play up the many points of that one animal with selective pairing.:gj:

Re: rate the snake: male lesser
yep, not sure what the terrible example votes are. very nice looking.

Re: rate the snake: male lesser
We could even register our snakes like we do dogs... American Kennel Club (AKC)... we could start American Python Club....
