    piebald temperament?
I've heard that piebalds are notorious for having a particular "temperament", but what does that mean? That they are picky eaters? That they are nippy?

(I have two piebald females and one het male, and they are all outstanding eaters. The het is a bit nippy, but the pied girls are very sweet and gracious about handling. What IS striking about my two pieds is that they are LAZY. Good grief! My black pastels eat the same as the pieds, but they are all over the place when I take them out, exploring and climbing and flicking, while the pieds just curl up in the first warm place they find and go to sleep. Sometimes they can't be bothered to leave my lap! They're like CATS. They're so lazy, even my non-snakey friends have commented on it.)

IMO temperament depends on the individual animal not on specific morph. I do have 1 het male that was very wirey , but after a few months he did calm down. He is also a very aggressive feeder.

My het pied male has an attitude. He's bitten me once, and huffed at me yesterday while trying to clean his tub. Once he gets out, he's kinda shy. He doesn't ball up, but he doesn't explore like crazy. My Lemon Pastel likes to explore for one purpose: Find a hiding spot. If she finds one, she'll sit there forever.

I've heard that piebalds are more mellow than other morphs, but picky eaters. My pied male is probably my nicest bp and will eat anything you throw at him.:)

I've always heard that they can be picky eaters; however, I've never experienced that myself. I also heard you can't breed pied x pied but I've done it three times and produced nice size fertile clutches. I have a decent size group of adults and have produced many babies and can't say there is any difference when compared to other morphs.

I do have a Pied Female.. UGH for the life of me .. she eats when she wants to eat. sitting at 753 grams today. But one day she will eat a rat.. then one day she wont. then she will eat a mouse. then one day she wont.. Everyone else in my rack is eatting on a regular basis. I was going to try ASF's to see if she would take those on a regular basis.. but I also heard that once they take ASF they are hard to convert back to anything else..

I have another pied female ( 155 grams ) knocking down rat pups like its no tomorrow.

    Who knowssssssss!! lol

About the ASF thing. I have a yellowbelly female that is like that. Got her on ASF and she takes them like they are candy. She never really took to rats or mice but loves her ASFs.

I also have snakes that have been give ASFs for weeks then switched back to rats and eat fine.

I agree-pieds tend to be mellow animals. They are the last balls I worry about giving me a mistaken "food bite". My pieds are slow and deliberate, and tend to not be as aggressive feeders as most of my other balls.

Interestingly, my het pieds, with a couple exceptions, have been worse feeders than the pure pieds.

theres going to be as many nice pieds as there are nice of any other morph and just as many evils pieds as there are evil of any other morph...to each snake its own.
