Hey guys just thought i would post this..

Well i got a big ball hes about 3 1/2 foot and had him for about 3 weeks now and he now seems to not like his cage he got out last night and i found him which was good but i got a matress up again my wall sort of like a head bord and he goes along the window and falls right between the wall and the matress which its really cold there and he did it again when i got up he was missing but first place i checked he was there again and just thought i would post it and yes today ima get some clamps and post a pic here in a min of his cage.

Oh and he weighs like 1500g is that good size for med rats or what? cus i been feeding him like 2 mice a week and its not helping him fit into his loose skin lol

Lol. Mice are way, way to small for that guy. I have a 1400 grammer that could eat about 7 mice in one feeding.

Now for your set-up. Get rid of that half log, most don't really like them. You need something on that side that will cover the snake on all sides. You can use glad bowls (and paint them), mine love them and they are really cheap at walmart. Keep an eye on the cardboard one too, it will get nasty if he poops, or pees on it (which he probably will). Lol.

Balls are very curious creatures, and no matter how perfect your husbandry is, they will try and escape. Call them houdini's. Get some locks to put on that topper, one for each side. You should be able to get them at the pet store, the kind that just snap into place. I've seen a full grown male lift a top with 40 lb weights on it.

Are your temps and humidity good? It looks like a nice set up though, other than the hides.

ok thnks and yea i was just telling my dad about the half long that i need to get something else and yea he never pooped since i got him for like 3 weeks untill he sheded and i soked him in the tub then he had one big O crap lol and the temp r just right and yea i tryed to feed him 2 mice in one feeding and the 2nd one he just stared at for like 20 mins so i just took him out and then yesterday the lil ball ate him lol

Yeah, they have a slow metabolism, so they don't do #2 as often as we do. I would get a digital thermometer to measure the temps and humidity. I see the little above the log, and they are way off. I bought some with my digital thermometer to to see, and they were anywhere from 10% to 15% off.

I would tell you to get rid of that heat lamp, but sounds like it gets pretty cool in that room. You could cover three sides of that aquarium with some foam boards (walmart lol) it would help keep it warm in there, and he would feel more secure.

Yeah, get that boy a rat. He should be able to take a med, but I would start with a small. It will be a big difference going from mouse to med rat.

ok yea the temps r right the one says around 80+ and the humidity is around 55+ and the warm side really is around 90 so i kno there right plus i got a accurite thermostat which i use to check if it seems to be off but they seem to always be right so no worries

Just to say the temps where those stick on probes are isn't really all that critical.

You want to check the temps the snake will be directly exposed to when it is in the hides at each end - they spend so much of their time hiding those are the main ones to worry about.

I would recommend putting the probe from the acurite in the warm end hide and the base unit on the cool side to get a good read on things.

well dr del that is what i do but i dont leave it in there i just put it in the for like 5 mins and let it work and then do the same with other snake and then i kno that its right

well guys i went and got me some clamps today and they r on nice a tight and i got him a small rat to start out with and i had no prob took him out in no time and ima get him like 2-3 more smalls every 5 days 1 a week and then move to med rats cuz that small was nothing lol

That's good. I would probably cut him back to every 7 days though. he seems to be a healthy weight, and you wouldn't want him to get too fat on you :)

well hes about 1500g and at 3 1/2 foot long and has loose skin cuz they were feeding him one small mouse a week which is bad so i got to get him to grow back into his skin right? i would say thats right lol

lol. 1500 g's sounds like a pretty good weight, even for 3.5 ft long. He weighs more than my guy, and I think he's just a tad longer. :) But it's hard to say without pics of the actually snake.

So, I'll take your judgement as the best :) Just watch his weight to make sure he isn't gaining too quickly.

yea well like from pics i see others r nice a round and mine hes is like very loose skin like when i go to grap him its hard cuz like its so loose like i go strait to his bones like i said they fed him a small mouse a week so that would of made him lose weight right ? so i just got to get him back into shape and thnks for the help and stuff

Just another suggestion.
Loose skin could also be caused by the snake being dehydrated. I know you said your humidity was good. You might want to double check that. Humidity in tanks with a heat light is notoriously hard to keep in a good range. He might not have had enough access to clean water to drink at the place he was before.

well yea i soke him in a tub twice so its not really to much with hydration plus dont they get there liquid from there prey too

Soaking isn't the same as them drinking the water. They do get some liquid from their prey. However, I do see my balls drink out of their water bowls. They especially like it when the water has just been changed. They have even drunk while I'm holding them--while I'm putting them back in the tub.

X2. He does need some water. Are you measuring your humidity with a digital hygrometer? I know you have an accurite, but you said you use it to check if it's off. It really needs to be monitored around the clock. I just leave my hygrometer in all the time. Is that what you meant?

well i did put it in there like a day ago and left it in for a day and yes my temps or correct but i found out that the humidity was like 5 % higher than the stick on thing and now i got it in my baby balls tank making sure his is right and im gonna get another one here in a couple days so i can have them in there all the time

You were putting the accurite unit (the whole think) in the tank too, right? Because the unit is what measures the humidity, not the probe.

yupp the whole thing put it on the cool side and the other end right under the log where the uth is and its going good but the big one keeps trying to get out lol and the baby is on his log under the heat lamp basking atm and this weekend ima get another acuright and also ima see if my mom will breed rats for me cuz she had a rat and she loved him and he died about a year ago so i told her i will pay for it all just that she takes care of them lol

nonono lol i got a baby and then later like a month i got a big one lol and had him for almost 3 weeks i they both r so kool ima get into the whole snake hobbie and breeding when we move into a house

Is it just me, but doesn't a 1500g animal seem too big for that little hide? Are you sure that's the weight of your snake?

What's the size of that tank, it might just be the angle, or me, but it looks a little small.

well the hide is the largest they had at the pet store the log and he does stick out just a lil and the tank is a 50 gal and if u guys want me to ill get a pic with him out of hiding like so u can see him and the cage to see how big he is yes?

yea i am gonna find something else to put in there just not sure yet and this weekend ima do all that i think and i might get some rats to start breeding

A lot of the things you're talking about replacing can be found cheaply on the Internet, so you can avoid the pressure to buy whatever your local pet store stocks. Unless you're feeding f/t, how do you intend to breed rats to feed only two snakes? Rat litters grow much faster than the snakes that eat them. I would love to have a few more rats, but there's no way to justify breeding rats when I've only got a single snake. Two snakes wouldn't make much of a dent in that assessment unless you're planning to feed a bunch of pinkies to individual snakes at any given time. Right now, paying retail for an appropriately sized prey item is much cheaper than breeding rats to feed my snake. Rats aren't as expensive to set up as snakes, but they do have specific husbandry requirements, and it's much easier/cheaper for me to just buy one every 5-7 days (or, in my case, as many as I can store without risking freezer burn, since I feed f/t) when I have no way to handle the "extras".

well i was just thinking of not like breeding all the time just like once and let them grow cuz i need them to grow and get a lil bigger so it will take a while before i can even feed them to my snakes but idk if i do i might just get a few more snakes too lol

well u dont have much of the right to say sence u got only 4 post and uhm i kno almost everything there is to kno i read everyday more and more stuff about BPs and i even read the same thing over and over again just so i do kno everything so yea pls dont talk

well he has water so i seen him drink it and stuff i dont think its really that anymore and i dont kno what it is if its wild or not who knos the store didnt even kno how to tell if its male or female they thought it was the 2 little spike things there legs they thought males had it and all BPs have those lol

Well guys and gals i took my BPs to the vet this morning and the baby is a male and the bigger one is a female and also found that the female did have a few mites not many at all and they gave me some stuff to spray and stuff and that she had some foam like stuff in the back of her mouth and the weezing not to worry about just yet wait to see if it gets worse or what not and to get him some poo sample lol so just thought i would let ya'll kno since i didnt even kno lol

More info than you asked for I know but I just gotta!
Get his tank farther away from the window. I'm not sure where you live but cold leaks in through windows and sun heats things up. I'd also get an under tank heat going and get rid of that heat lamp because it's going to dry a ball python out bad.
Oh and they also make clamps for cage tops that seem to work pretty good all in all.

uhm yes thnks uhm i did get clamps and im bout to switch to tubs so i can keep humidity up better and stuff any advice on setting up 40 qt tubs?

Is there anything in particular that you want to know? Setting up tubs is pretty straight forward. All you need is a tub, two hides, water bowl, substrate, and a UTH on a thermostat.

uhm well thats the size of tub and like what type of bedding for good humidity or what to use for humidity ?

Paper towels or newspaper is just fine.

Get a smaller tub for the smaller snake though. It should do fine in a 15qt or 32qt tub. 40qt is a bit big for a tiny baby.
