IM addicted!!!

Ball pythons ARE like potato chips! 6 months ago i bought my first bp: Artemis. then at the rocky mountain reptile expo in august i got another bp: Zeus. yesterday, i bought my first morph, a spider ball: Apolo. i am going to get myself more snakes by the end of this year! when you guys first got into ball pythons, how many of them did you have at 6 months?

I got my first snake 5 years ago. It was a corn snake then I got my first ball python about a year and a half ago. That summer I bought 4 other ball pythons and have ended up with 23 going on 24 snakes and 2 geckos and 2 turtles.

LOL you started out just like I did: One normal Ball python in the beginning, another normal Ball, then the first morph, a Spider Ball python!:D

Ball pythons are wayy too addicting..

I got a Normal ball python on October 8th, then after the reptile expo yesterday, i now have 3, a normal, albino, and spider. What is it with people getting a Spider as the first morph? I love the fact that the gene is dominant and can be combined with a good amount of stuff. Also i love the calico type pigment loss on the under belly.

I got my first snake, a corn , 8 years ago. 2 years later I got a second then after that I bought another and instead of buying 1 a year it was 2. Finally I got my first bps 2.5 years ago, A male and female pair of ch. Then it started to get crazy. When I got the 2 bps I was still under 10 snakes, now I am at over 40, most of those are bps. I am now breeding them so my numbers continue to rise. I also have 13 lizards/geckos.

right there with ya!!! My mom got my son a normal for his b-day...I fell in love. About 3 weeks later I went out and got a bee. Now it is about 5 weeks later and I am going to the show on Saturday with the intentions of getting a lesser or a butter or a black pastel or a ............ (you get the hint there)!!!!

Wow seriously we are totally shopping together, I'm going to ditch my mom and grandpa and go shopping for BPs with you instead.. but you gotta bare with me when I get to the Beardies:D

Well my first BP I got her about 7 months ago. She is growing fast and beautiful. My pride and joy :D

Not even 2 months of having her, I bought a Lemon Pastel about her same age of Sloan Reptiles here in these forums. He was growing fast, But now he is off feed. He is beautiful too, although he has brown out some.

At this point I was in love with Bee's and when I first saw a pic of a Axanthic Killer Bee, I was hooked on Axanthics. Hopefuly I will make one in the years down the road.

A few months later I bought a yearling VPI axanthic male. He was severly under weight, but I felt in love with this morph, even if it was just an Axanthic that wasnt mixed with anything else yet. He also arrived almost frozen... :( But he is doing great now and hasnt missed a meal. He has grown alot! more than doubled his weight in only some months.

Last week I got my first spider, my other favorite morph! I waited patiently to find the perfect spider for me. I bought her Of Mike Cavanaugh here in the forums.

Thats all the BPs I realy wanted and needed for the Axanthic Killer Bee. The years down the road will be fun! :gj:

Im thinking of getting also a Fire and a High Gold Normal to clean up the morphs, but Im not sure about that at this point :)

4 years ago I got a normal boy, 2 years after that a pastel, and this year I've gotten a spider and a big normal girl... and I still want more :D

I got my Lemon Pastel in July. We waited 2 months til we got Micron, our Het Pied. On that same day, we purchased another one (Which I haven't announced) we're waiting for him to get one more meal and then he'll be coming home. So, almost one a month! We're gonna wait for a while to get a het pied girl, and after that I think we'll be done for a long time.

I always love when people ask this question because i love seeing everyones answers and their first snakes :) Ball pythons were never my first love. They became my favorite snake years later. I got my first constrictor about 13 years ago. An albino burmese. Less than a year later i got a common redtail boa and 2 kenyan sand boas. 7 years ago i got my first ball python. A normal. Then a few years later my first morph. A male pastel. Now i have 20 ball pythons. All of which are morphs except my original one and 2 surinam BCC (red tail). I love rainbow boas too and i have been trying hard to stay away from them but i'll probably have a couple of those before too long too.

I got my very first snake when I was in 3'rd grade. It was a terrific cornsnake who ate everything with mucho gusto. From that time on I kept different types of kingsnakes and lizards.

I then started with ball pythons in 2007 and I'm still on that track with a collection that I'm proud to be the owner of. :)

We are SUCH horrible enablers here! :P:oops::rolleyes:

I started with a normal ball adult. Six months later I had 3. By a year I had 11 snakes of various species. If memory serves :rolleyes: by 2.5 years I had over 20 snakes, and now that I've indulged my love for 4.5 years, 14/34 are rescues/rehomed, 14 are balls of various hets or morphs/normals and we have 3 giants and nine different species! The worse part??? I have ETS, but without a job, I have to put my dream wish list on temporary hold :( :sigh2:
until after I'm done with school and have another job before buying MORE snakes!

I'm raising hets to breed, and even tho' the boas are ready, there's no baby room and my first next wishlist is a spider for bees from breeding my lemon pastel 'Tude.

The way I see it there is way more worse addictions you could have. People ask me all the time how can I "waste" so much money on snakes. I dont think its a waste. How many thousands of dollars to people spend on tobbaco, alcahol, drugs and gambling and even junkfood? These are all addictions and there is no positive return. You spend loads of $ and its gone and you have nothing to show for it. You get cancers, liver disease, mental problems, family issues, overweight, even a criminal record (drugs). None of this is good. I dont smoke so right there is $300 a month I can spend on my snakes. Having snakes can have a positive return and possibly a financial one too if you breed them. It keeps me happy and busy and gives me a good feeling that I am responsible for these lives. When I look at a bunch of happy healthy animals I know I have done good. Its also great for learning and then you can pass on that knowledge. And then to be able to create life through breeding them and be successful at it, I feel this has been my biggest accomplishment. Each day I look at my babies and say to them and me, "I made you, how cool is that?" Having snakes is definately the best kind of addiction there is.

ge I started with a blac krat snake , tha fall for a a corn ( first rescue), then a pair of bp (rescues as well) Then relocated one other died) end up with 2 more replacements.( rescues) now up to 23 snakes and it mostly bps. I purchased only 11 of the snakes, 3 snakes were hatched here, and the rest came as rescues.

I know...that is kind of what I am thinking of now that someone else suggested it. My husband keeps laughing at me...."what are you getting"? It changes daily!!!! Hmmmmmm....maybe I need to push for two...:rolleyes:

Thankfully he is into this as much as I am ...though he will NOT admitt it!!!! Although I keep saying I want a chameleon and he keeps telling me NO...we are a family of pythons!! :snake: I'll keep working on him...
